About this location
The Isle of Wight region
The North of the Isle of Wight is home to the County Town of Newport, with the Medina River running through it towards the Solent dividing West Cowes and East Cowes.
Queen Victoria's residence of Osborne House (East Cowes) and Carisbrooke Castle (Carisbrook) are both English Heritage venues and are well worth a visit. Quarr Abbey, further down the coast from Osborne, is a spectacular working Monastery with tea rooms.
To the West are the villages of Shalfleet and Newtown Creek with a stunning Nature Reserve. Newtown is one of the oldest towns in the UK (Once a 'Rotten Borough').
There are several forests and many coastal walks to enjoy as well as a dedicated cycle path network.
Cowes is renowned as the Yachting Mecca of the World and bustles with sailors from every corner of the Globe. Cowes is the Isle of Wight's main port with a natural harbour at the mouth of the River Medina. Cowes is a small town of around 20,000 inhabitants with a friendly, cosmopolitan atmosphere.
The High Street is pedestrianised, allowing good access to shops, art galleries, maritime museums, restaurants, and pubs. Above Cowes High Street and overlooking the Solent is Northwood House and Park. This classical style mansion dates from 1837 and was given to the town in 1929, together with its 26 acres of grounds. The grounds now provide public tennis courts, bowling greens, and a children's playground.

"Christmas in Cowes"
Great house. We were a group of 9 adults and 5 children all 2 and under. This house was the perfect place to spend christmas, plenty of room and a great kitchen with everything you need including a stocked pantry, which is always handy for herbs! So close the the sea front so great walks that are on your doorstep. The owners were extremely helpful and flexible for us. Would highly recommend for big groups or family trips.

"Fantastic place, great location, good value"
Myself and twelve other guys stayed at Little Orchard as part of a stag weekend. There were no problems booking - the owner was very understanding, which was great as we're a group in our mid-thirties, but I was worried that the stigma of the typical stag-party-wrecking-the-place might be attached to us!
The house is really fantastic - large, well-kept and with plenty of facilities for a large group: massive fridge-freezer, two large ovens, three bathrooms. It's in a great location for anyone planning to visit Cowes; just a few minutes walk to the Parade, a few more minutes to the pubs and shops beyond. From the large garden you could even see the beautiful sea, with yachts floating by. There's a barbecue too, a well-stocked larder, and comfy beds with all towels and linen were provided.
I'd have no hesitation in returning to Little Orchard again, perhaps with extended family for a few day enjoying the Isle of Wight.
