The West Country / Cornwall region

Blissfully warm compared to most of Britain, this part of Cornwall is blessed with generally 'soft' weather and a kind micro climate, attested to by the fields of early Daffodils and rare tropical plants that abound in the area. The Lizard coast is famous for its unique geological structure and dramatic coastline (to which many ships have succumbed in the past) which gives this area its particular 'flavour'. Coverack's proximity to the gentle green creeks of the Helford River also provides a diversity of landscape and offers a variety of places to explore.
There are many beautiful gardens and National Trust properties within the area, whilst St. Ives (Tate gallery, Hepburn Garden and numerous other galleries, as well as fabulous long surfing beaches), Penzance (St. Michael's Mount, proximity to fishing port of Newlyn with its fish markiet) or Falmouth (superb Maritime Museum, picturesque waterfront, numerous yachting facilities) are all within an hour's drive. There are many beautiful coves and beaches, such as Kynance Cove, and picturesque villages such as Gweek to visit nearby. Within easy reach of Coverack you could also go down a mine, visit the most Southerly point in Britain at the Lizard or walk round the romantic 'Frenchman's Creek'.
Water sports abound. The Helford River is a famous sailing location and there is some wonderful diving to be had locally at Porthkerris. Surfing locally would depend on the winds, but the North Coast offers some superb surfing throughout the year and again would take roughly an hour's drive. For those who wish to be in the car a little longer, you could even take a day out exploring the Lost Gardens of Heligan or the Eden Project, both near St. Austell.
The Coverack area
Coverack is situated on the Lizard Peninsular. Once a notorious smugglers haunt, it is now one of the most beautiful of Cornwall's fishing villages with its small harbour nestling in the south side of the bay. Our holiday destination for over 15 years it has a sand and pebble beach and a windsurfing school, where tuition is available. There is a pub, Post Office, general store, two gift shops, an art gallery, cafes and an ice cream parlour. This is a perfect maritime place that's ideal for windsurfing, swimming and walking.
There are many things to do in the area within a short drive. Beaches at Downas Cove, Kennack Sands, Porthallow and Godreavy Cove. Attractions at Flambards Theme Park, Roskilly Dairy Farm, Gweek Seal Sanctuary, Goonhilly Satellite Observatory visitors centre, Lizard Point. Tropical Gardens at Glendurgan and Trebah and the picturesque Helford River Land's End and the Minnack Open Air Theatre are both about 30 miles. The Eden Project is approxmately 40 miles away.
The south west coast path is close by incorporating the breathtaking vantage point of Black Head and far reaching views towards England's most southerly point.

Guestbook for Mayfield
T Jones, Aug 2011. We had a lovely stay at Mayfield. Coverack was a good as ever although surfing on the Lizard was a bit poor. Never mind, we have already decided to look for a property for two weeks in August 2012. Can you let us know what availability you have?
Mr and Mrs Slatter, Oct 09. Thankyou we had a lovely time at Mayfield, both it and Coverack were ideal for us.
We loved the beach, the village and everything, our girls aged 4, 7 and 9 even went for a quick dip in Coverack Harbour after seeing the local teenagers swimming there and were even paddling in the sea just before we left on the Saturday.
One week flies by but we managed Flambards, The Seal Sanctury, Lizards Point and Lands End as well as St Ives and even a couple of days in/on Coverack beach.
I think you have a great Holiday home in Mayfield and we would love to return. You've made it a very welcoming home from home.
Mr and Mrs Fox, Aug 08. The cottage is very comfortable, just what we wanted from a holiday home. It is clear to see you have put a lot of thought effort into getting it completed and the deck adds another dimension to the property with fantastic views for the early morning coffee / late night wine / beer. The utility area and side conservatory - this is such a lovely little area to the cottage- and so useful for wetsuits etc and really helps to keep all holiday clutter out of main living space
