Resort Les Constancies
Villa | 9 bedrooms | sleeps 24
Les Constancies is a luxury holiday resort ( a restored 14th century building) for up to 24 persons and is made up of 4 individual residences. It is situated in the Dordogne region in France
The Dordogne is one of France's picturesque rivers which is very well known for its scenic beauty, and its numerous castles -which date back to historic times of the 100 year wars- dotted on the banks of the river.
Holiday makers enjoy the combination of sightseeing, outdoor activities (canoeing, golf, biking) and enjoying French lifestyle. This is the region of typical French gourmand produce, like Foie –Gras, local wines (Bergerac & Cahors), a large variety of recipes for preparing Canard (duck), cepes, truffles to name but a few. Of course the region, called the Perigord-noir, has a huge selection of restaurants, and wine tasting establishments.
A day trip can include a variety of such activities, including visits to historic sites, caves, prehistoric excavations, museums or even theme parks, but should always be combined with a well timed break to enjoy the hospitality at local restaurants or cafe's.
Les Constancies is geographically located on the top of a hill which separates the two main rivers of the region, the Dordogne and the Vesere, which merge together close by in the beautiful village of Limeuil. Thus, we are only 7-10 km away from each of five picturesque villages located on either of these rivers and which are all worth visiting, Le Bugue, Siorac, Le Buisson, St Cyprien and of course Limeuil.
The main house is centrally situated on the property and emphasizes outdoor stay during three of the four seasons. Large area's are avialable for outdoor "al freco" dining, lounging and recreation. A large part of the outdoor area is covered and thus weather protected (rain & sun !) The large opening terrace doors of the house allow easy acces all around and gives the feeling of a spacious walk through house, So the central kitchen is ideally situated to comfortably serve this entire area of the essential replenishments required during the day spent recreating.
The large heated infinity pool is also strategically located at one end of this large (400m2) terrace so that is it is central to all ongoing daily activities.
At evening time there is of course opportunity to sit inside in the lounge and enjoy the open fire and very soothing floor heating on cold days.
Bedrooms are located on the 1 st floor and are created to the highest luxury standards with modern en-suite bathrooms.
On the 2nd floor 3 more bedrooms are located which are suitable for children or couples. On this floor there are shared bathroom facilities and a seperate toilet.
total sleeps 10-12
Our two cabanes are self contained cottages which offer privacy and are ideal for a family with young children to reside in.
A large luxurous bathroom is situated on the ground floor.
Both cabanes are outfitted in modern style and have a nice kitchen with all possible appliances such as oven, microwave, dishwasher ect.
each sleeps 2-4 persons.
In adjacent barn (Tabac) we have created a games room.
If you need any more bedroom space we can convert the games room into a bedroom as it has an en-suite bathroom facility.
sleeps 2-4 pers.
On the 1st floor of the Tabac is a self contained studio that sleeps 2-4 persons, fully outfitted and equipped.
The barn also encompasses the residence of our on-site caretaker. His appartment is situated on the off-site of the resort and does not overlook any of the rented property. He is there to maintain the place and assist our guests only when needed. Full privacy is guaranteed.
Our guests are very appreciative of this service.

The Aquitaine/Dordogne region
About the Perigord (also known as the Dordogne)
This ancient land deep in the heart of sunny south west France is perfect holiday country, a magic place that will reward all those who choose to explore it.
The Perigord – the official French name for this province of France, which has been affectionately named after its main river “the Dordogne” by tourists, was the center of the Hundred Years war and legacies of this era are everywhere. Vast fortified churches, over 1000 castles and the Bastides, the fortified towns built on the French and English frontlines. The best of these being Domme and Monpazier, which was built by king Edward 1st in 1285.
More recently the Perigord has become famous as being one of the principal centers of pre-historic history. Early man has left the region with some of Europe's earliest art treasures, the 17,000 –year–old cave paintings of Lescaux near Montignac, the Font de Gaume near Les Eyzies and many others. Spectacular caverns such a the Gouffre de Proumeyssac and the Grotte du Grand Roc, contain stunning rock formations formed over millions of years in a seemingly infinite variety.
The traditionally rural architecture has created charming honey colored villages in a landscape so pretty and varied as to offer a feast for the eye. Ancient doorways and archways abound, guarding their secrets, and the countryside is dotted with dove-cots and dry-stone huts crowned with the famous roofs of the Perigord.
And who could pass by the local cuisine. Rich pate de Foie Gras, the famous Confit de Canard (duck) and the black diamonds of the Perigord, …..truffles, being the most famous…….which is why this landscape is the habitat of Wild Boar, who also loves this special delicacy.
The Dordogne valley is viewed on the south-east side of our property :
The most famous and frequented Castles nearby are Beynac and Castelnaud. ( 15 km)
Please do visit the garrison towns : Belves, Domme, and Monpazier , they are beautiful and well worth a day-trip.
A special recommendation is to go and visit the beautiful gardens of the castle of Marqueyssac, or Josephine Baker's Milande castle close to Beynac.
You will find hundreds more castles open to the public if you browse the website.
The tail end of the Vezere Valley can be seen on the west side of our property, as it runs all the way down from the north to merge into the Dordogne valley close by in Limeul, an idyllic setting of two merging rivers. This valley is listed by UNESCO because of its enormous wealth in prehistoric paintings and dwellings. Pick one of the prehistoric caves and shelters to visit, one even more beautiful than the other: Lascaux Caves, the Roque Saint Christophe, Laugerie-Basse, the Grotte de Rouffignac, Font de Gaume and the Cavern of Bara Bahau. At Les Eyzies is the Musée de la Prehistoire. All located at close proximity to our residence
Do not forget to visit the most beautiful villages of St-Leon-sur-Vezere and St-Amand-de-Coly, where you have the impression you are back in the 15th century.
Coux Et Bigaroque
Our property is located on top of a hill in a rural and peaceful area, but surrounded by famous historic towns like Sarlat, Bergerac and Perigeux, and picturesque villages close-by, like le Bugue, St Cyprien, Le Buisson, Limeuil and Siorac. Plenty of shops are available with local produce and art & artifacts. Daily markets are held in each of these towns and villages. In the evenings it is worth wile to visit the Nocturnes (evening markets) and frequent displays of fireworks that are organized by the village councils and merchants.
So an excellent way to take full advantage of a peaceful holiday break in this beautiful natural environment, while enjoying the history and the many attractions of this valley.
Ideal location is you wish to be active :
• Golf - nearby 3 golf courses
• Biking and Horseriding
• Walking - there are various beautiful routes, through beautiful landscape leaving directly from our house
• Visit the castles, sightseering or visit galleries and the many famous caves
• Swimming and Canoeing
there are plenty of options available. There is the large infinity pool in front of the house which stays nice & cool all during the summer and gets heated during the cooler periods. There is the Dordogne river that has safe beaches. There are water parks in the area, one of them “Etang du Bos” is just a 10 min walk down the hill from the house. Canoeing is very popular in both the Dordogne and the Vezere, and is available everywhere along the banks of these rivers. Water tight canisters are provided, so take along lunch provisions and enjoy a unique pique-nick on one of the gravel banks in these shallow rivers.
Almost every week one of the villages in the area hosts an evening Fire-works display. These are professionally set-up and worth while visiting.
Another cool activity is visiting the grotto's in the summer …….mind you there can be cues, as this is a popular activity.
It is always wise to visit on of the tourist bureau's in le Bugue or St Cyprien and obtain the season's agenda.
Things to do around the House :
Of course the Pool !....day & night
Lounge in the shade of the terraces or umbrella's……if its still too hot , then inside the main house it is still much cooler.
There is a badminton court set up on the lawn which is also suitable to play football or croquet or any other activity. And there is a trampoline and kids playground in the garden.
Foorball or croquet on the lawn , and we have lots of childrens toys for all sorts of ages , just ask our caretaker to assist.
We have a pingpong table and table football as well as many board games.
Autumn in The Dordogne : a real special event
Enjoy this special season with a beautiful temperature, warm days and cool evenings, which brings all of nature's produce available in this region. :
- collecting Cepes ( wild mushroom ) which makes a fantastic gourmet dinner.
- Walnuts and Chestnuts, which can be collected or bought at roadside stores ideal for using in food or roasting in the fire
- Of course the area is uniquely known for its food products ; traditionally Goose & Duck liver , but this is also the hunting season and a wide selection of fine cuts are freshly available , from the local butcher
- Of course if you don't much fancy hunting, you can take a sip of the local vin-nouveau, as it is also time for wine making.
