Vineyards and fortified towns are the highlights of the “Périgord Pourpre”, situated at the south west of this department. At the heart of Monbazillac and Pécharmant – the two most famous vineyards among 13 others “AOCs” spreading over more than 29 000 acres –, stands the city of Bergerac which name is often associated with Cyrano, even if this famous character with a long nose (created by French writer Edmond Rostand) was not a true Périgord native as was Michel de Montaigne.
The old town of Bergerac kept architectural testimonies from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries like half-timbered houses. Its development was tightly linked to the ones of the River Dordogne and the wine business. It is the starting point to discover vineyards and castles.
The fortified towns, like Beaumont, Eymet, Issigeac, Lalinde, Molières or Monpazier, among others, testify for the rough history of the Périgord, like the opposition of France and England, which started in 12th century.A 7,5 acres garden divided in two parts surrounds this large 19th century house. One garden is designed around the large swimming-pool (15 x 7 meters/49 x 23 feet) and outdoor activities: badminton, giant chessboard, table tennis, and cricket. The other part of the garden is for relaxation and leisure.
The nice interior decoration bring the finishing touches to this residence which, with 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 living-rooms and an dinning-room can accommodate up to 12 persons.
