The Lanzarote region
Lanzarote covers about 350 square miles of land. Whilst famous for its lunar landscape and volcanic rock, it also boasts some of the most glorious sandy beaches to be found anywhere in the world. A perfect place to enjoy the stunning sunsets for which the island is renown.
Timanfaya National Park provides the opportunity of taking a camel ride through the dramatic volcanic terrain of the Fire Mountain.
Visit the stunning Cactus Garden, designed by César Manrique. Reclaimed from a disused quarry, it has over 1,400 varieties of cacti and more than 10,000 plants! You can see that cacti have some of the most spectacular flowers to be found anywhere in the world - and are not all spikey!
Cueva de los Verdes is a network of underground caves with the longest volcanic tunnel in the world. There is a stunning optical illusion at the end of the hour-long guided tour.
The Water Grotto is a must too with the unique albino crab. Also well worth a visit is the weekly Sunday market in Teguise. It bustles with activity and anyone who enjoys a good barter is guaranteed one here!
Whilst there is no shortage of pizza, pasta and paella, typical Canarian food is thick meat or fish stews served with bread. Watercress soup is also a local speciality. A traditional starter would be shrimps in hot garlic oil or octopus.
Also worth a try is meat, fish or vegetables served 'con mojo'. Mojo verde being a cool sauce flavoured with parsley and coriander whilst mojo rojo is a hotter proposition altogether made with chillies and peppers. Fish served as a main course will be simply prepared - either grilled or fried and served with a salad.
As with the rest of the island of Lanzarote, the Costa Teguise weather is usually very good all year round. The beaches are on the whole windier than those in other resorts, which explains the proliferation of windsurfers, however this can be a real benefit in the height of the summer.
Costa Teguise area
Sandy beaches, lively nightlife and easy access to many of the islands major tourist attractions make Costa Teguise a great base for your holiday in Lanzarote.
Situated on the coast in the central part of the island, Costa Teguise is one of Lanzarote’s main tourist resorts. It is only a 20 minute drive from Arrecife Airport and is a convenient place from which to explore the islands tourist and cultural attractions, as well as the northern fishing villages of Arrieta and Orzola.
The island’s historic capital of Teguise is a 10 to 15 minute drive away and provides a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of Costa Teguise, unless of course you go on a Sunday, when the market is in full swing.
How to get there
Taxi from the airport to Sands Beach Resort 20 minute ride cost about 20 euros.

Guestbook for MLS Villa
Just a note to let you know we had a very enjoyable time out in Lanzarote. The villa at 4 Amarilla was perfect for us. The weather could have been better at times, but that didn't hamper our enjoyment. We are so familiar with Costa Tequise and Sands Beach Resort that we were able to find plenty to do whatever the weather. We did find the resort particularly quiet this time, but we understand that has a lot to do with the Credit Crunch and the fact that the pound is so weak.
Thank you once again for letting us rent your villa. We would like to stay again next year maybe and we will recommned it to our friends.
