The Lanzarote region

The islands main tourist attractions are easily accessible from Costa Teguise. Arrecife has an attractive waterfront and an important modern art museum in an old fortress. Several sights on Lanzarote are creations of the great local artist and designer, César Manrique. Within a half-hour drive of Costa Teguise are his remarkable Cactus Garden, his stunning subterranean nightclub and restaurant, Jaméos del Agua, Cuevas de los Verdes and the Fundacíon César Manrique, his amazing former home - now an important modern art gallery - built into underground volcanic caverns. There's plenty more! An hour away is the island's 'must see', a trip to the simmering summit of the live volcano, Timanfaya, set amidst a barren wilderness of lava. There’s the Mirador del Río with sheer cliffs 1000ft high, El Golfo, the lagoon and the pretty village of Yaiza, beautiful at sunset. The hustle and bustle of Teguise’s Sunday market is a favourite for visitors seeking a bargain. The renowned natural beaches of Papagayo are also worth a visit.
Children will enjoy the Rancho Texas theme park on the ring road near Puerto del Carmen, camel riding in Timanfaya and the Tropical gardens at Guinate. Our two enjoy kite flying on the windswept Famara beach on the north west coast of the island.
Lanzarote enjoys the shelter provided by the most westerly Canary Islands and the African coast. As a result it has relatively little rainfall. The climate is temperate and Lanzarote enjoys abundent sunshine all year round. The average temperature is 29° in August and 21° in January.
The Costa Teguise area
Costa Teguise lies on the sunny sheltered south east coast of the island of Lanzarote. An up and coming resort to the north of Arrecife, it has been planned and developed to a high standard and is where the Spanish royal family have a holiday home! There are excellent beaches and sporting facilities and this area is particularly good for windsurfing and scuba diving. The property is less than a 10 mins stroll from the golden sandy beach of Las Cucharas where windsurfing, snorkeling, scuba diving and other water sports are available.
Costa Teguise has plenty of good quality restaurants, evening entertainment and a range of shops selling a variety of goods at duty free prices. It is well placed for some of the island's best sights.
Further afield, we enjoy the seafood at Arrieta and Orzola in the north of the island. Another favourite of ours is a visit to Puerto Calero with restaurants overlooking the marina, where it is also possible to book a day trip on a catamaran or a submarine safari.
Costa Teguise has the benefit of the islands only golf course and the waterpark at Acualanza which are only a five minute drive away. The golf course is open to non-members and equipment can be hired from the club. For the youngsters there is always crazy golf.
Arrecife, the islands capital, is less than 8km away and has some good inexpensive shops. Here you can buy local lace and embroidery, costume jewellery, basketwork, ceramics, or duty-free cameras and electronic items. On Sunday, the huge craft market at the old inland village of Teguise is worth a visit.
