About the home

The apartment is in the popular – possibly the most popular in Lanzarote - complex of Playa Bastian. The complex has an eclectic mix of apartment blocks, terraced bungalows and individual villas; some with their own pools. There are three separate pools – two are heated in the winter months – and a children’s pool. It is situated centrally in the resort of Costa Teguise and is in easy walk to shops, restaurants, bars and Playa Bastian’s own beach. Bed linen and towels are included with a weekly linen change. For those wishing to travel light, beach/pool towels can be provided upon request..The apartment also is in a FREE WiFi hotspot area, for those needing to stay in touch.

All the furniture is new: The bedroom has a comfortable queen sized double bed, and ample storage space – both hanging and shelf - for all your clothes. The bathroom is fully tiled and has a customised walk-in shower. The large open plan kitchen and living area is modern and uncluttered; the kitchen is fully equipped with cooker, fridge freezer, microwave, toaster and kettle, and there are comfortable dining chairs (& table) for four. Two, two seater sofas provide a relaxed area and face the TV set-up. Obviously a DVD and CD player are available. There is also an iron and hair-dryer for your convenience. A fold-up bed can also be provided. Use of a laundry room with washing machines and tumble dryer are available nearby. A substantial and secure safe is hiden in a bedroom cupboard. Bed linen and bath and hand towels are supplied and changed weekly, and beach/pool can be provided (free) upon request for those travelling light.

Outside the front door there is a wonderful view North up to the mountains, while walking through the apartment and out onto the terrace the vista is spectacular: Looking down two floors onto the large pool, with it’s separate children’s pool and the pool bar, the voyeur gets a great opportunity to people watch, and looking up you see out over the whole complex (southwards) and out to sea. Magic.
The terrace also has an outdoor table and chairs for four, and is the perfect spot to watch out for the Pod of whales that have often been seen, close in-shore, over the last couple of years.

The Lanzarote region

Lanzarote is only 70 km from the African coast and has, arguably, the best climate in the World. Where else in the World do you not need air-conditioning or heating? The temperature in the summer rarely gets into the 90s, and rarely drops below 70 in the winter. More magic. And, with only three inches of rainfall a year, it has less precipitation than the Sahara has dew!

The Island is quite beautiful. Dry – yes, and not able to sustain many trees, means that there are wonderful far reaching views to distant mountains interspersed with clutches of small white Spanish villages and palm trees.

Fortunately, and thanks to the Islands great mentor and painter Cesar Manreque, The Island benefits from strict planning rules and regulations and, unlike the rest of the archipelago where the norm is “high rise” and “high density”, there are no ugly skyscrapers.

There are a number of day-out tours by bus to discover many of the treats the Island has – standing on top of a volcano and watching your lunch cooking (from the heat) is not something you can experience everywhere! For those wanting to hire cars, rates are very reasonable.

The Costa Teguise / Playa Bastian area

Costa Teguise is a holiday resort and only 30 years old. It is situated on the southeastern coast of the Island, and about fifteen minutes from the airport by car. The capital, Arrecife, is only ten minutes. There are three large horseshoe shaped beaches ensuring safe swimming. The Las Cucharas beach is renown for it’s windsurfing, and regularly hosts the World championships.

The Island’s only Water Park is nearby, and the oldest Golf Course (one of only two) is in Costa Teguise. The picturesque capital of the municipality, Teguise, has one of the largest markets in the Islands and provides a day out in it’s own right.

The resort has many bars and restaurants catering for all tastes and ages and, for the epicurean, boasts some of the best restaurants on the Island, some of which have won National culinary awards.

The Spanish Royal family have a private complex in Costa Teguise which they use for 'winter sun" and their Christmas vacation.

Easyjet have recently announced flights from Liverpool, for £70 to £90 return! But, the best news is that they will be flying Sunday, Tuesday and Thursdays, making mid-week breaks and long weekends feasible and affordable. The success of this service has prompted Ryanair to offer even cheaper flights – some as little as £49 – and from several airports around the UK. Fly2.com are rumoured to offering a similar service.

Second time we´ve stayed in this apartment and, as we spent most of the week sitting on the terrace watching a family of whales cruising around, just off the beach, it won´t be the last. Really great apartment and host.
