The Sardinia region

Sardinia, is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean, characterised by a jagged and rocky coastline, interspersed with marvellous beaches of very fine sand. Sardinia is a very ancient island rich in history and legends and everywhere there are traces of human settlements dated from the Bronze Age , the best known being the Nuraghi – circular stone dwelling left by an otherwise unknown people.

Sardinians loves their traditions and no matter where are on the island, or the time of year, you’ll likely find a colourful celebration. Sardinia folk culture is expressed in dance, handcrafts and native dress. Every village has its own typical costume.

Even the vines tell a story of Sardinia. Native red varietals are cannonau, monica, (of possible Moorish descent) and carignano. Cannonau is the most famous and is made by a grape introduced in the 13th century by the Spaniards. White varietals are vermentino(of Spanish descent).

The mild climate, the limestone terrain, the sea air and the wind contribute to make the wine of this land one of the best in the world.

Sardinian cuisine is exquisite essentially in its simplicity, made from genuine ingredients and essential flavours based on products from the land and the sea , characterised by roasted meets and fresh seafood. Even those visitors with most demanding palates will be spoilt for choice.

The climate allows to have a very long summer season, from April to November, with very mild winters. The heat of summer is refreshed by the frequent Mistral wind.

Porto Rotondo

Costa degli ulivi Village lies in the north –eastern coast of Sardinia, in the heart of Costa Smeralda made famous by the Aga Khan and visited by royalty and famous actors, musicians and all kind of trendy people . It is renowned for it's beautiful beaches and clear waters but if you require night life look no further, Costa Smeralda has it all.

Beaches, water sports, shopping, relaxing, restaurants, history you will find it all within easy reach of the emerald coast.

Beautiful buildings on human scale, designed by Europe’s very best architects, hand built by top Sardinian craftsmen with their millennial experience in the working of granite , the natural stone of the island and the perfumed juniper wood .In the surrounding of Costa degli Ulivi you will find the most beautiful Sardinian beaches Spiaggia di Ira Marinella, Punta Asfodeli.

Just 15 minutes driving you will find Spiaggia Liscia Rujia, Il principe, Razza di Juncu etc.. Many recreational and sporting activities can be organised at the marina in Portorotondo, including yacht and speed boat hire, boat excursions to the Maddalena Archipelago, Palau, San Pantaleo, diving in the clean water of the marine reserve.

On land one can take in the archaeological excursions, tour the vineyards of the Vermentino, go horse riding, trekking. Personally we love to lie on the beach, swim in the clear blue sea and eat the great restaurants that the area has to offer testing good typical Sardinian land or fish food.
