About the home

This studio was built 2008 as an addition to the already well established Calarossa Residence. We own both this apartment (sleeps max 4) and Villa Marisa Holiday Lettings ref 215087 (sleeps max 6)
Complete freedom to self cater or dine out in residence or nearby (car essential) or mix and match as you please. Supplement of £80 for gas/water/elec/cleaning and fresh linen and towels. Residence in high season is very family friendly with many organised activities and entertainments including a children's club (July/Aug) at extra cost payable on-site. Within easy reach of historic town of Castelsardo as well as all resorts along beautiful Costa Paradiso. Day trips include Santa Teresa (ferry to Corsica), La Maddalena Isles (Garibaldi's house and tomb) or Costa Smeralda. Close by there is the "never ending" sandy beach at Badesi, the charming port town and beach at Isola Rossa and many other inlets along the Costa Paradiso. The residence's outstanding feature is the stupendous coastline. The cleanliness of the sea here means superb watersports.

On-site facilities include: Bar, Restaurant with panoramic view, Pizzeria, 1 Laundromat, Mini market, Boutique. Sport and Entertainment: 3 swimming pools including one "kids only" well equipped with sunloungers and parasols. Soccer: 5 a side field. 3 tennis courts with night lighting. 1 bowling ground (for petanque). Daily and evening entertainment at the piano bar. The owners would particularly recommend the Sagittario restaurant (Via Al Mare 10, Trinita' D'Agultu) as a good value and good quality place to eat. Anthony Carella in the Sunday Times called it "...the kind of unpretentious Italian restaurant one dreams of finding." Owner Paulo Muzzigoni will give a warm welcome. Another recommendation is La Tana di Li Mazzoni

The Sardinia region

Sardinia, or Sardegna in Italian, is the largest island in the Mediterranean but perhaps one of the least known. It is part of Italy but in reality the locals refer to Italy as "the continent" and are certainly proud to be different.
With its wild beauty, crystal clear waters, expansive beaches, fabulous climate and fragrant air it is a favourite holiday destination for the Italians. And the locals do everything possible to retain all it's charm. With it's proximity to Africa it enjoys a fabulous year round sunny climate.

The Costa Paradiso / Calarossa area

Calarossa is located on Sardinia's spectacular North Western coastline called the "Costa Paradiso" and the Calarossa Residence itself is at the Southern end of the Costa Paradiso, situated on the headland called "Li Canneddi". The small town of Isola Rossa is 4KM away. The larger hilltop town of Trinita' D'Agultu (usually just called Trinita) is about 6KM and has chemists doctors ATM petrol station and all local shops and facilities. Sardinia is the largest island in the Mediterranean. Cala Rossa Beach Residence is a little over an hour from either Olbia or Alghero airports. From the UK Alghero is served by Ryanair from London Stansted as well as London Luton, or from ROI from Dublin. There is also a seasonal service BMI Baby from East Midlands to Alghero. Olbia is served by Easyjet from Gatwick and Bristol. There is also the option of Jet2 from Edinburgh to Olbia and Leeds/Bradford to Olbia.

“Very pleasant stay!” We stayed in the studio apartment and very much enjoyed our stay. The apartment was very clean with a well equipped kitchen and an ample sized bathroom, the only negative I could say was the bed as it was a pull out sofa bed! The resort itself was ok, although they seemed to have a wake up call by the pool at 9.30 consisting of Italian music and dancing! The beach was only a 5 minute walk along a sand path or la marinedda beach was a 15 minute walk away which was very nice! Overall for the price we can have little complaints about this accommodation and would recommend to anyone. Response: The residence is marketed by Pierre & Vacance as being very family friendly. They employ a team of staff called "animators" who are on hand during high season to organize activities for the children and ensure they are provided with a wealth of activities through the day. We have found that a firm "No thank you" will keep them at bay if you do not wish to get involved. For the music, this is pretty standard for any Italian beach resort throughout July and August. If you are looking for a quiet time to go, try April/May or Sept/Oct

“an excellent relaxing holiday” A very nice studio apartment on a purpose built holiday complex with excellent facilities. A private beach which is perfect for an evening stroll to watch the sunset. A car is essential when staying on this complex as the only access to the main highway is via a 4 kilometer unmade road. There are numerous villages and beaches which are only a short drive from the complex. Response: We would strongly recommend a car for almost any location in Sardinia, unless you plan simply a city break in Alghero or Cagliari

“Lovely beaches” We stayed for 12 days at the Calarossa Residence out of season around Mid-May. The weather was fantastic (between 25-30 degrees) except for two days when it was windy/raining. We stayed in a studio flat which was nice with an outside balcony although you need to be careful if you have young children but it was great for enjoying a glass of wine in the late afternoon/evening. Be warned that the main facilities are not open until June including the swimming pool but we prefer it less crowded so it was fine for us. It would have been nice if the playground had been kept fairly accessible as it was a bit too overgrown to use. There is a lovely looking (but stony) beach less than 5 min from the development and a fantastic sandy beech in the next bay about 20min walk from the development. The location is great for driving around the North of the island and we would especially recommend going to Corsica for the day which was our best excursion. All in all, we enjoyed it Response: We are fortunate enough to have our own Calarossa beach within a few minutes walk. This is a sandy beach great for sunbathing and swimming, though it does go to pebbles and rocks under the water so plastic swimming shoes would be a great idea. For a completely sandy beach Marrinedda is 5 minutes walk across the dunes - strangely it takes longer to drive to than walk. The "Miami Beach" of the area is at Badesi, a long sandy beach of some 4km which is 20 minutes drive to the south.

“Lovely place, but remote and quiet due to time of year” We went out of season in late March and because of this we didn't have access to many local restaurants and meant getting food was quite inconvinient. However the apartment was very nice with good facilities and very clean. The area has beautiful beaches and this apartment is in a good location to drive to many of them and there is also a small beach located very close to the complex. The area is very peaceful and remote and perfect for a quiet, relaxing holiday. It was great value for money but renting a car is essential! Response: We have now opted to open for bookings on 15th April when most restaurants and shops are open for the beginning of the holiday season. At the same time we will still offer great value for low season bookings at 18 GBP per night for our studio apartment (holiday lettings reference 85978) and 36 GBP for our 2 bedroom apartment (holiday lettings reference 50025). “lovely part of Sardinia - beautiful sunsets” We rented the studio apartment for 5 nights and enjoyed our stay. The studio was very clean and pleasant to be in and although small in size it was perfectly adequate for a short stay with all the necessary equipment in the kitchen area and a reasonable size bathroom. The view from the little balcony was beautiful and the breeze was a welcome relief to the summer heat. The resort was well maintained and very tidy. There were two fantastic pools, various other activities and there was entertainment on through-out the day and most evenings provided by an animation team. This was very popular and fun for those who wanted to be involved, however my only criticism was that the noise and music was audible around the resort and in the studio apartment so any quiet time could only be taken during siesta. A car is necessary but the resort is well placed to discover hidden coves as well as popular beaches along the Costa Paradiso – all beautiful. Trips to towns like Santa Teresa di Gallura and Castelsardo are also possible and make for a nice day out. The owners of the property were very helpful and prompt with any questions or queries we had. We had an enjoyable stay. “sparkling holiday in idyllic sardinian setting” The Calla Rossa complex is lovely - 3 beautiful pools, of varying sizes, all very safe for children. The whole site has really nice facilities: a charming restaurant, a choice of cafes and bars, and tennis and football facilities. The main joy was the people; it is very European, in a friendly way for families during the day, but also quite sophisticated way at night. The Calla Rossa team of young people made everyone feel involved if they wanted, in the pool and kids activites, but were also respectful of people's space. Nearby there were local beaches, one you could walk to through the dunes, and others a short car journey away. There is a local aqua park, which was fun for the day for children of any age. Food is expensive; the island isn't cheap, but it is beautiful, and overall we had a really relaxing, family friendly holiday. You can't guarantee Sun, but in the Summer, we had 7 lovely days in a row. The studio accomodation was compact, but somehow we got our family of 4 in. The facilities were very clean, and well equiped. It was really safe, and we had a great view over the Florence like tiled roofs and out to the sea in the background. The communication with the owner was excellent; he offered us travel advice, and when we had a problem with the gas cooker, one short call to Britain fixed it; he was always on hand, and always friendly. Overall, if you want the sun, great pools, things to occupy your children, or a relaxing space for yourself, with an air of Italian sophistication thrown in, then this is a great place. To confirm this, we are now booking again for this Summer, combining with a brief city stay in Rome. Response: There is a wide choice of restaurants within a 20 minute drive and also the option to self cater. Maybe also worth remembering, for those on a budget, pizzerias or trattorias will be better value than the more expensive "ristorante." We like the Sagittario in Trinita D'Agultu and would highly recommend the Gorgonzola and onion pizza!

“Simple clean, safe accomodation, fab resort, stunning location” The resort is great..the apartment was the perfect base from which to explore the Nothern part of Sardinia - great beach book in the apartment helped us discover some beaches that rivaled the ones I have been on in Barbados. The owner was friendly and helpful. The resort people were fantastic...we found the Sardinian people wonderful and look forward to returning to this gem of a place and our 9 year old and 11 year old loved SARDINIA the friendliness of the people, the ice-cream and the amazing pool!! Thanks very very much - The Paxton Family PS just one thing a map of local area in the apartment marked up with local supermarkets would be useful. Response: We would suggest SISA in Badesi for food shopping. Spotlessly clean and used to tourists
