About this location
The Valenciana region
Javea is a charming port town that sits on the Northern Costa Blanca coastline in the shadow of the impressive Montgo Mountain. This beautiful beachside town benefits from one of the finest climates in the world, with long Mediterranean summers, mild winters and an enviable 325 days of sunshine each year. There is a little bit of everything in Javea, from its warming azure waters and pristine sandy beaches to the vibrant restaurants serving quirky tapas dishes, and the wonderful architecture that spans generations from medieval to modern – Javea is quite simply one of the most desirable destinations on the Costa Blanca.
The town is comprised of 3 distinct areas. First the Arenal beach, which as well as being home to a fabulous white sand
beach is filled with restaurants, bars and shops, then the port where you can take in the ambience of the boats in the
harbour, visit the modern and striking Santa Maria de Loreto church (the ceiling of which is shaped like a ship's hull, built
in 1967 and dedicated to the patron saint of fishermen of Javea), or take a sunset cruise and enjoy the stunning views
from the waters, and finally the old town of Javea which is home to a network of quaint narrow streets, the 14th century
Church of Sant Bartomeu and a collection of restaurants, shops and sandstone houses. The old town is perhaps the
most striking of the 3 areas – it is rich in medieval architecture and home to a nice selection of authentic town houses and apartments.
Aside from the obvious attractions such as the beaches, clear shallow waters, the old town and marina, Javea is also
known for its vibrant nightlife, with live flamenco in the restaurants and beachside bars opening up in the summertime.
There are a couple of nightclubs close to Arenal beach too, so if you want to dance, you'll find that you're well catered
for. There are markets throughout the town, such as the weekly market at the Plaza de la Constitution, that sees the
square turned into a bustling bazaar selling a menagerie of handmade accessories, shoes and purses, and the daily food market in Plaza Celestino which is a good place to buy your fruit and veg from. If you'd like to celebrate Spanish style then taking part in the Our Lady of Loreto Festival is a must. Though the festival is a slightly sombre affair during the day, at night there are fireworks over the harbour, bull-running on the beach and lots of partying.
Close by you'll find the Montgo Natural Park which is situated between Javea and Jesus Pobre and home to the Montgo
Mountain. You can visit the mountain by car – but when you get to the summit – even walking would be worthwhile, as at
the top you'll be rewarded with unobstructed awe-inspiring views out across the mediterranean, and on a clear day, you
should be able to see the island of Ibiza. You can wonder the natural park in harmony with the flora and fauna, taking in
the peacefulness of the mountain and spotting rabbits and owls on the way, but if you prefer to stay at sea level, then you should head to the promenade opposite Arenal Beach and indulge in a cocktail or two while you admire the view of the Mountain in the distance.
In the unlikely event that you ever want to leave Javea, you'll find both Valencia and Alicante just a little over an hour's
drive away. You can fly from both cities to a number of international destinations and take day trips to the numerous
attractions that span the beautiful Costa Blanca.
