The Island of Malta region
In the rushed world of today it is a pleasure to set foot on an Island where the lifestyle is leisurely yet caters for the needs of the discerning traveller. The Mediterranean lifestyle means that you can take it easy in a warm, friendly and centrally situated Mediterranean island, where the sea is crystal clear and the climate mild all the year round. The Maltese are a friendly and hospitable people. Ebullient and typically Mediterranean they are always ready to give a helping hand.
The Maltese island’s mild winters are renowned, there are no sharp winds, snow, frost or endless rainy days. Instead they have a very sunny climate with a daily average of five to six hours sunshine in mid-winter to more than 12 hours in summer.
Malta enjoys a rich cultural and social life. There are theatre seasons and concerts taking place most of the year During the summer the Maltese enjoy a great outdoor life, due to the Mediterranean climate, al fresco living is the order of the day.Promenades along the seafront are a meeting place and one can either stop for a gossip or just have a brisk walk to get some exercise. It is not unusual to see Maltese neighbours congregate outside one of their homes chatting away, especially in the side streets.
If you are interested in history Malta is the place for you. The island is steeped in it. The Mnajdra Temples at Hagar Qim and Ggantija in Gozo (the oldest free-standing structures in the world, built about 3500BC, are older than the Pyramids and Stonehenge by thousands of years).
St Paul’s Cathedral in Mdina is reputedly built where Publius’s palace once stood. Mdina (the silent old city, few cars are allowed in) and Valletta, the city, are World Heritage Cities.
Valletta is full of restaurants and open air cafes. The world heritage city of Valletta is a great base from which you can explore Malta, the bus station and ferry terminal is only a 5 minute walk away, the bus service is excellent and economical to transport you with ease around this beautiful island.
Cospicua area
When the knights arrived in Malta in 1530 they made their home in Vittoriosa and started to build their auberges and defenses. The protected harbour was a perfect haven for their ships and galleys.By 1550 Senglea had been fortified and Cospicua was booming as a market town.
It was from these maritime towns that the knights defended Malta from the marauding Turks during the Great Seige of 1565.
Wandering around the winding streets under imposing bastions you take a step back in time. There are many historical sites, amoung them Fort St Angelo, Inquistidors Palace, Maritime Museum, Malta at War Museum and numerous Churches.

Guestbook for Casa Jecentho
Just to say that we had a wonderful time in Casa Jecentho and Malta. Its a wonderful house with some lovely furniture - and so full of character. Sue and Trevor Cord.
Casa Jecentho was the perfect setting for an awesome holiday; as soon as you step through the door, you absorb the house’s history and feel the culture pouring out of the walls. This stunning house is in an area far removed from the tourist resorts of Sliema and St. Julian’s (although these are very accessible by bus), but this makes it even more attractive to the tourist interested in adventure and discovery of a place.
Thank you so much for your help in the organisation of our holiday. Your house was absolutely stunning and we loved the community feel of the area. I have already been recommending the house to people!! Gwynn Basan
