The Murcia region
Costa Calida literally means "warm coast" and with over 320 days of sunshine every year says it all - and is why visitors come to this part of Spain all year round.Corvera is part of the region of Murcia described as the market garden of Spain so when you eat out in the many and varied fabulous restaurants you really are eating local produce. You are in the middle of a region which has something for everyone. Here are some of the places you may wish to visit:-
The regional capital is MURCIA CITY the seventh largest city in Spain and only 20 minutes from Corvera Golf by car or the local bus. It's history is everywhere with the foundation stone of it's wonderful Cathedral being laid in 1388.A university town with an abundance of culture and celebration, museums, galleries and theatres - regular fiestas including the spectacular Parade of the Three Kings in January.Coffee shops, tapas bars and restaurants. The Nuevo Condomina shopping centre is the largest in the Mediterranean area with the very best of European and Spanish retailers - culture and shopping!
The ancient port of CARTAGENA goes back to Roman times and is a popular destination for boats and yachts.Visit the amphitheatre or catch the international music festival held every July.CARAVACA DE LA CRUZ is designated one the worlds five holiest cities and high up in the mountains is LORCA one of the architectural glories of the region with it's castle said to be the most picturesque in Spain. Alternatively visit the wide open spaces of the VIA VERDE which runs along the entire north west of the region a joy for walkers and cyclist alike.TORREVIEJA has a beautiful harbour setting - try to be there when the sun sets. The area is famous for salt production so look out for those huge salt mountains! To the west of Murcia is the region's biggest and best water theme park - TERRA NATURA with pools for adults and children.
You are only 30 minutes from the wonderful safe beaches of the MAR MENOR.A 170 sq km salt water lagoon, the largest in Europe, only separated from the Mediterranean by the very famous narrow piece of land known as the LA MANGA STRIP.Described by the American swimmer and MGM movie star Esther Williams as the "largest swimming pool in the world" the Mar Menor offers beautiful beaches, safe bathing (ideal for young children) and every type of water sport you can imagine. You can walk or cycle around most of the lagoon and if you suffer any "aches & pains" head for the famous healing Las Salinas pools at LO PAGAN.
There are picturesque fishing villages and resorts along the Mar Menor offering great seafood and other local delicacies. One of the nearest to Corvera is LOS ALCAZARES (pronounced los-alcatha-res) a lovely resort with lots of facilities.Join the Spanish and stroll along the tree lined promenade which runs the length of the town's shoreline.Take a walk,or rent a bike, and head northwards over the boardwalk through the nature reserve. You will find open air markets almost every day around the Mar Menor
You are 5 minutes from the local small town of Corvera with a population of 2000 people and a history going back the same number of years. Here you will find all you need by way of supermarkets, general shopping, banks and some really nice bars and restaurants much more reasonably priced than in the main tourist centres. A market is held on Sunday mornings and there are other daily markets close by.
There is a regular bus service to Murcia City and the coast. The lively annual fiesta is held in early October and lasts two weeks. The adjoining Equestrian Centre offers horse riding at every level, courses and full day camps.Because of the low light pollution of the area the Murta Astronomical Observatory is only 2km's away and booked tours are available.
Corvera is a traditional town which has been an agricultural centre for hundreds of years. You are in "real" Spain so don't expect the locals to speak much English if any! .But this is the charm of the place and why your holiday at Corvera Golf may be different to previous visits to Spain - you may well return!

"Excellent apartment in an ideal location!"
Booking was made very easy with the owner incredibly helpful and informative. Similarly upon arrive collection of the key was convenient, a quick call and we were met within a few minutes and shown to the apartment. Choice of a welcome pack with the essentials (bread, milk etc.) was also welcome after the journey.
The apartment itself was very clean and well set out with an en suite for the main bedroom. The roof terrace was a real bonus, with beautiful views, all day sun and perfect for sitting out for evening meals. There are also plenty of pools to pick from which meant we pretty much had the one nearest the apartment to ourselves. The golf club house was also very useful for an easy choice for a good dinner or drinks.
Though we spent most of our week enjoying the tranquility of the resort, the did venture out to town, Covera, which provided some good tapas restaurants and handy supermarket (excellent Spanish meats).
I would definitively recommend staying here and plan to return to visit more of the surrounding towns such as Murcia and Cartagena.
