Home description
Il Pero is our family home and we welcome you to share our little piece of paradise. Enjoy the glorious Tuscan country side at it's best. Our large gardens provide plenty of space for children to run about and for parents to relax knowing their children are safe. Our pool is located at the western end of the house providing all day sunshine and fabulous views across the Val Di Chiana.
The house was originally built in 1782, we have lovingly restored the property. The house has been restored sympathetically to it's listed historical importance with original cotto floor tiles, cotto manzane and chestnut beamed ceilings. We have intergated two guests cottages into the main house. Both cottages have all the comforts of home without the stress.
This is the perfect setting for a relaxing family holiday with the added bonus of being just a stones throw away for discovery everthing that Tuscany has to offer. Although when you are here, you may feel like you are a million miles from civilization, we are infact just a couple of kilometres from the local store so life is easy!

The Tuscany region
Tuscany is the largest region on the Italian peninsular. Steeped in art and achitectural history and natural beauty.
The warm summer climate(30 - 40 degrees C) lends itself to relacing holidays exploring the area, discoverying the hidden sectrets of the area. Also to be enjoyed in the somewhat cooler winter months but with sunny days (10 - 20 degrees C) the less crowed streets can be enjoyed with christmas markets and the bustle of everyday life.
Arezzo and the Val Di Chiana are only a short drive south of Florence.
Cortona / Val di Chiana area
Arezzo is one of Tuscany’s best kept secrets. The city itself is nestled into foothills in eastern Tuscany. Arezzo having been founded by the Etruscans is the centre point between the Val Di Chiana, Val D’Arno, The Tiber Valley and Casentino.
Arezzo has played many a great part in rich history of this area for hundreds of years. The city is known for its cold production, its fabric production, art history and architectural history. Well know are the collections of frescoes by Piero Della Francesca, in the church of San Francesco 'The legend of the True Cross’ can be seen in all its glory.
Tuscany is well know for its wines and here in this area we have some of the finest, with the added possibility of visiting some of the ‘catinas’ in the area and tasting some of these fine wines for yourself.
Restaurants are in abundance were all the gastronomic delights of the local ‘cucina’ can be sampled.
Regular markets in local towns where you can buy fresh produce and create you own mater pieces in the kitchen.
The hills sides all around the area are covered in olive trees (our own included) and some of the best Olive oil comes from this region – ours is pretty good too!
Our property is located in the Val di Chiana just 10 kilometres (6.21 miles) south of Arezzo where the valley starts to show its best. The Val Di Chiana stretches all the way from Arezzo down past Lago Trasemeno to Chusi and Orvietto. On the hill sides that flank the valley you will be delighted by towns such as Civitella, Castiglion Fiorentino, Montecchio, Cortona, Foiano, and Castiglion del Lago.
We are in the perfect position to explore in all directions, the wilds of Casentino, the Crete Sinese and Siena itself. Florence and Chianti, to the north of us, Lucignano, Montepulciano, Orvietto, and Pienza to the south and west. Perugia and the region of Umbria to the south and east.
All of these cities and towns boast historical centres with architecture dating back to the Etruscan times.
All of this and so much more right on our doorstep. But of course you don’t need to leave the door step to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the valley, here in the garden by the pool with the extensive views over the surrounding farmland across the valley to the hills beyond.
How to get there
We are within two hours of Pisa, Bologna (not Forli), Rome and Perugia Airports served by EasyJet, Ryan Air, Thompsonfly and BA. Less that an hour from Florence airport which is served by Meridiana.
There are train stations at Arezzo (20 mins) and Castiglion Fiorentino (15 mins) but we strongly advise hiring/rental of a car as we are in a rural location. We suggest use of trains for day trips to Florence and Rome because of parking difficulties in these cities, therefore leaving your car at the station car park making your day trips much more pleasurable.
We are located 10 km south of Arezzo (taking the SS71 )near the villages of Policiano, Rigutino and Frassineto. Or from the A1 motorway, just 15 minutes, exiting at Monte San Savino.
