Guest Comment - August 2012.
" This was our third holiday in Tuscany and this was by far our most relaxing stay. The main thing about Casa Serena is the perfect balance between the house itself and its location. Although not luxurious, it is very comfortable and full of character, but at the same time offers many options for more active guests including a lovely very private pool, hiking and touring Tuscany and Umbria.??But the attraction is not just the property itself but also its location. Its situation is secluded and peaceful. It commands superb views across the valley, perfect for pre-dinner drinks on the small terrace and for watching the gorgeous sun-sets
?The nearest town, Castiglion Fiorentino, offers good shopping – nice restaurants and 3 ice cream parlors! In addition there is Cortona, about a 25 minute drive which although now famous for Under the Tuscan Sun, remains unpretentious, interesting and well provided for in shops and restaurants and entertainment ...
However, the peace and calm we found was so attractive that it became almost difficult to be dragged from it and yet - the surrounding area is so full of attractions that making the effort was well rewarded! "
In addition to relaxing by the pool or under the shade of the portico, you can make any number of day trips to places such as Pienza, Cortona, Montepulciano, Siena, Assisi, The Chianti region, Arezzo and even FLorence is just an hour by train from the local station.

BookThe Tuscany / Arezzo Province region
THe property has splendid views overlooking the Val di Chio,, with beautiful olive groves and other Tuscan scenery.
The old town, of Castiglion Fiorentino, the main place of the valley, located 5 km from here, overlooked by the Torre del Cassero and surrounded by the city walls, preserves its medieval structure along with valuable artistic and historical works dating back as early as Etruscan times.
It is ideally located on the border between Tuscany and Umbria, making it easy to get to the main cities in central Italy.
Tourists can also enjoy typical genuine cooking and find local organic produce, as well as a variety of craft products.
The Cortona area
A car is required - and we can help you find one either in Rome, Florene or Arezzo or elsewhere and, save you money! There is though a train station at Castiglion Fiorentino and there are trains to Florence, Perugia, Assisi and Rome, but for all other trips a car is recommended. Of course, you also have the option for a car a driver for one or more days if preferred.
In Castiglion Fiorenitno and Cortona shops of every description, including small specialist food stores - like the local butcher, baker, fruit and other local produce. In addition, Cortona has an array of bars, restaurants to suit all tstes and pockets and, of course a wonderful choice of ice cream parlours - perfect for the late night snack
Around the towns there are many museums, churches, art shops and more to occupy your day. We can also arrange wine tours, cooking classes, truffle hunting and ceramic courses for you. Or, you may prefer other forms of relaxation.
There are tennis courts, horse riding (for the proficient), a golf course (23kms) and much more. Or, for those who prefer a beach, just 25 minutes drive is Lake Trasimeno.
For those wanting more of the Dolce Vita, why not rent a scooter and explore some of the local areas. Better though for those who are fully aware of bikes and road sense.
Throughout the year there are festivals everywhere - Besides Cortona's internationally famed Tuscan Sun Festival in August, there are 100s of others from the biggest BBQ held in Cortona, the antiques fair of Arezzo )every month), the Palio in Castiglion Fiorentino, Jousting in Arezzo, and Carnival (February), there is Italy's second most famous held in Foiana .

We were traveling in Europe for nearly three weeks with the last leg in Italy, We chose this place as it is private and set in the countryside of Tuscany, The property is along a hillside surrounded by olive trees and some wonderful views of the locality. The small villa has two bedrooms, a sitting room with an open fireplace (which came with free logs and was a real treat), kitchen and bathroom. Outside, we could see the pool, but too cold to use. We found the villa comfortable and had all we needed for our 6 night stay. A few mild days meant we could enjoy lunch on the pretty terrace. We had hoped to go to a cooking class during our time here, but apparently, there are not so many available at this time. However, the owners were helpful and caring. They organized for us to have a truffle course in Citte Casteli, very interesting and very enjoyable. Another unexpected bonus for us was being able to help with the olive harvest - In this area, it is a family affair and everyone seems to be around. Along the road from the villa is an oil press where we were able to watch our efforts being made into extra virgin oil. We were given a bottle of the green gold to take back to the villa where we drizzled it across some toasted bread and had this with some great local wine in front of a log fire. |

Not easy to find but that is part of the charm of this delightful property in rural Tuscany. Driving up the dusty track this little oasis is screened from view by olive trees and grape vines stretching as far as the eye can see. The interior of the villa is rustic and comfortable with adequate equipment throughout and an extremely comfortable double bed! Opening the shutters in the morning to find a red squirrel harvesting walnuts was a magical moment as was sitting on the terrace in the evening with a chilled glass of wine as we watched the sun go down. Castelion Fiorentino was the epitome of an italian town and we found several places to eat where the local fare was both delicious and reasonably priced. If you are looking for a spot where bird song is more important than disco and you want to explore the beautiful countryside or hop on a train to Rome or Florence for the day then this is the place for you. Alternatively spending the day lounging by the pool enjoying the stunning view and the warm September sunshine was sheer bliss; this place is a gem and the italian ice cream in town is pretty scrumptious too! |
