The Tuscany region
Administratively, the Trasimeno area is part of Umbria, but culturally and geographically is straddles both Umbria and Tuscany. It contains features of both, being an area where the border betweenthe two regions is intringuingly blurred, in language and landscape as well as in the flavours of it cuisine and its traditions. It is in the exact centre of Italy, at a point which since ancient time has been the meeting point of routes for travellers from central Italy and Northern Europe heading for Rome. It is an area which is easly accessible but at the same time secluted, and this has always made it a very desirable goal. (for more details www,umbria2000.it).
Cortona area
An encounter with Cortona is an encounter with art, with history and with spirituality. Getrting to know this timeless city is a real rediscovery to its history as well as an enchanting view of the landscape enclosed by Lake Trasimeno and Appenines. Fifty miles from Florence between Arezzo and Perugia. Within a radius of a hundred kilometers or so you will find 20% of the world's artistic heritage (Florence, Perugia, Siena, Arezzo, Assisi, Orvieto, Gubbio, Spoleto, Chiusi, Tarquinia, and so on). A Place which those interested in botany will think of as Paradise, where many types of birds fly over the blue waters and countless shades of green (Lake Trasimeno Natural Park). Past castels and ancient villages, through unspoiled countryside where it is possible to find peace but at the same time have an active holiday. You can visit the "Open air Museum route" in Castiglione del Lago, Cittą della Pieve and Panicale. All visitors will surely want to take a boat trip, either to the towns along the shores of the lake or the two islands which are open to visitors (Isola maggiore and Isola Polvese). From the site of one of antiquity's most famous battles to the fascinating "Campo del Sole" and many other attractions. And between one place and the next, a feast of flavours. (for more detail about attractions, events, restaurants www.cortonaweb.net)
