The Fuerteventura region

Corralejo is a tresort situated at the northern end of Fuerteventura. It is considerably larger than Caleta de Fuste and has a more touristy feel.
Corralejo Old Town
The original part of the town is based around the old harbour, which was used by local fishermen. Here the small sheltered beach, that, provides safe bathing for locals and holidaymakers alike. Fishing from the harbour wall is a popular pastime and it is not usually busy ,
Corralejo Marina
This marina is for pleasure craft and the ferry services to Lanzarote and Lobos, a small island that is a 15 minute ferry ride from Fuerteventura. There are various trips aimed at those on holiday that run from the harbour which can be booked locally..
Corralejo's Beaches and Dunes
Located a short distance south of the old port are a couple of more spacious sandy beaches that have fine views of the Island of Lobos. Whereas the small beach by the old harbour in Corralejo seems to making use of the space, these larger beaches are aimed at holidaymakers staying in the north of Fuerteventura, and have everything needed for a day at the beach on Fuerteventura.
The town is surrounded by sand dunes with miles of sandy beaches that form a nature reserve. The beaches between Punta de Tivas and the Tres Islas hotels, called Playa del Pozo, Playa del Medano and Playa de Viejo run in to each other and this sandy shore is sometimes called Flag Beach. These beaches are exposed to the wind and this makes these beaches ideal places to pursue those activities that require a little more life to the water. Circular stone structures provide a windbreak for those that just want to take advantage of Fuerteventura's sunny climate.
Some of these beaches, though it is really one long beach, are sometimes used by naturists. Naturists generally prefer to be on beaches that are away from the resort centres, so that they don't offend other bathers. The beach at Playa de Pozo are the most popular with naturists.
The Corralejo / Las Fuentes, Corralejo area
Corralejo´s location on Fuerteventura means that it is well positioned for many sports activities. The are north and east facing beaches close by and this allows those who enjoy surfing, windsurfing or kite boarding to move to spend their days in different locations depending upon how the wind is affecting the waves or blowing in relation to the shore.
Those that are into hiking or mountain biking have a choice of off road tracks and the distances travelled can be adjusted to suit the time available.
Adventurous tours.
Besides the trike tours run by Fuerte Trike there are other possibilities including Buggy Tours and excursions as well as quad bike tours, and all of these prove popular with holidaymakers

We as a family have enjoyed holidays in corralejo for the past 9 years, and we now think that we have found the best place to stay in the 9 years of our visits. The apartment was very clean upon our arrival, we could not have wished for a better equiped apartment, it caters for all kinds of entertainment:ie, bikes, bar.b.que, swimming equipment as well as beach items. The pools on the complex are cold but that is a feature of the island that can't be changed unfortunatley, however they are the cleanest that we have come across so far . The locals on site are very friendly and always have time to say Hi. We as a family have always said that we would never recommend a holiday place to people but on this occasion we would highly recommend this apartment to others with our blessing, |

The apartment was clean and comfortable and the kitchen facilities very adequate. The pools were both clean and warm enough to swim several times each day. The cleaning ladies came in part way through the holiday to change the sheets and clean around. We didn't bother with the TV but did watch a couple of DVDs in the evening. Mainly we went out in the evenings. We found it an easy walk to restaurants and entertainment in the Campanario Centre, as well as all the way to Corralejo itself. The island of Lobos was a full day out in order to walk around the island before sunbathing. We had a couple of coach trips to the south of the island including the submarine trip. We will go again and probably hire a car for a few days to explore more of the island. This was my second trip to this apartment and I will go again. It is good for touring but it is relaxing to stay on complex and self cater. No need to rush around anywhere. |
