The Fuerteventura region

Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canaries and lies about 90 kilometres off the coast of Africa. It has extremely low rainfall and a wonderful year round warm climate, with approximately 3000 hours of sunshine a year. In addition to being a fabulous summertime destination, Fuerteventura also offers a sunny escape from the long cold wintry nights of Britain
Although formed by volcanic activity, Fuerteventura is justifiably famous for its miles of magnificent, unspoilt and uncrowded beaches, which attract visitors from all around the world.
For those seeking a slightly less sedate vacation, the island is a mecca for water sports including surfing, diving and excellent windsurfing. It also caters well for those who prefer the usual land based pursuits such as golf, hiking and cycling
Corralejo is the main resort in the north of the island and has numerous good quality restaurants together with vibrant nightlife for the young (and not so young) at heart. The old town by the harbour still retains its charm and the adjacent main square offers relaxing dining and evening drinking with traditional music and entertainment
Overall, the sunny climate, wonderful beaches and aquamarine waters together with the top quality facilities in the resorts make this an excellent destination for a memorable holiday catering all ages and interests throughout the year.
The Corralejo area
Corralejo: The "Old Town" is the area based around the old harbour. There is a small and sheltered beach nearby - the Playa la Clavellina - which provides safe bathing. A short distance from the harbour are a number of other, more spacious beaches. These beaches have great views of the Island of Lobos.
The small beach by the old harbour in Corralejo makes use of the space, whereas the larger beaches are aimed at holidaymakers staying in the north of Fuerteventura These have everything you need for a day at the beach.
Corralejo is surrounded by sand dunes and miles of sandy beaches, which form a nature reserve. The beaches of Playa del Pozo, Playa del Medano and Playa de Viejo run in to each other. This sandy shore is sometimes called Flag Beach. These beaches, being exposed to the wind, are ideal for pursuing watersports however there are some circular stone structures, which provide a windbreak for those that just want to take advantage of the sunny climate.
Corralejo´s location on Fuerteventura means that it is well positioned for many sports activities. Among the most popular are surfing, windsurfing or kite boarding.
Day Trips:
El Cotillo
Situated in the northwest corner of Fuerteventura and a short distance from Corralejo, El Cotillo is a peaceful place with fantastic beaches and sheltered lagoons. The old harbour, with its small bars and restaurants, is the most picturesque part of town and offers good restaurants, bars, and a few shops. El Cotillo is well known for the "Fortaleza del Tostón" which was built in the late 1790's to defend against invading pirates.
Lanzarote
For those with a desire to go "island hopping", a frequent ferry service links Corralejo with Playa Blanca on Lanzarote.
