The Fuerteventura region
Fuerteventura is the most "african" amongst the Canary Islands, Europe's sunshine resort. Most of the island’s beautiful coast is scattered with enchanting, golden sandy beaches merging into crystal clear waters. Its privileged climate shows an average temperature of about 20°C (68 degrees F), with little rainfall due to the absence of high mountains. In a 15 minutes drive from your Villa you can reach the Cueva del LLano, a cave that is unique among the lava pipes of the Canaries. It is a special example, as it provides information about the general erosion of Fuerteventura, and has an abundance of animal fossils trapped in its sediments. This visitor’s centre shows almost 400m of accessible cave. The cave was constructed from a volcanic pipe of considerable dimensions, and is accessed via a large jameo (part of the tube whose roof has collapsed) divided into two branches. The cave is a million years old, and is the oldest in all the Canary Islands. Driving southwards you will find La Oliva, with the Casa de los Coroneles, the most outstanding noble building on the island and the best example of its heritage. Built in the second half of the 17th century, this embattled building was the headquarter of the military governors. The main entrance to the Casa de los Coroneles is topped by a coat of arms made up of a goat, a tree and a crown; the wooden balconies on the outside are decorated with barroque carvings.
Corralejo area
Corralejo is an old fishing village where you can relish fresh fish while enjoying charming views from one of the many sunny terraces of this lucky place. Corralejo belongs to the Municipality of La Oliva, at the north tip of Fuerteventura. The impressing dune ecosystem of Corralejo is an amazing geological feature that, together with the Islands of Lobos and Lanzarote, forms a breathtaking scenery. Windsurf and Kitesurf Centres, Diving School, Jet Ski, Game Fishing, Boat Trips to the Island of Lobos, Thalasso Spa and water park are all within easy walking distance. Located a few miles away from Corralejo, there are the idyllic beaches and seawater ponds of El Cotillo. The Fuerteventura Golf Club in Caleta de Fuste (40min drive).
