The Fuerteventura region
Loads of activities, wind surfing schools, kite surfing on flag beach is fantastic if only to watch.
For the more adventurous there is four wheel drive tours that include off roading (details of excursions available). You can even arrange a tour in dune buggies which is a great way to see the North of the Island. Or you could just explore the island with a hire a car. Drive to the south where there are some fantastic area's of natural beauty or go inland and explore the wonderfull landscape
The whole island is well known for sea food and there are some great Spanish restaurants that are very reasonable in price.
Or you could just chill out round the villa and have a nice relaxing Walk (1.2km to the start of town) down to town in the evening then get one of the many taxies back to villa for around 2.50 euro's
The town is a mixture of old and new. Areas of interest are the old town with the Spanish square restaurants and the live music. Then there is the more recent developments with Chinese, Italian and British bars shops and resturants.
Large new shopping areas include the Las Palmeras and El Campanario, modern shopping complexes. The high street, with well established shopping areas, mixed in with late night bars and clubs, which are in the old commercial area.
The harbour is very well maintained and quite new .Ferries to Lanzarote and Los lobos Island . There are day trips fishing, sight seeing and you can also learn to dive from the numerous dive centres along with wind and board surfing schools . I like La luna restaurant just the other side of the harbour for morning coffee, where the views of Lanzarote and the sea are outstanding. . Other activities include mountain bike's, dune buggies and quads, all are for hire in the town.
A car is for me but if you prefer not to its not a problem. In the spanish old town there are some great supermarkets with reasonable prices. Hipodino, Spar and a few others, we have found these the best places to shop and as i said quite reasonable. Like everywhere in the world the local corner supermarkets can be expensive, but handy......
There is a 9 hole golf course in the local area and two18 hole championship courses (One was the home of the Spanish Open in 2004!) which are 40 minute drive away. A local Golf society is in town that arrange days out including snacks a beer and prizes.
