The Italian Riviera region
The Cinque Terre (Five Lands) is a string of five fishing villages perched high on the Italian Riviera (region Liguria) which until recently were linked only by mule tracks and accessible only by rail or water. An ancient system of footpaths is still the best way to visit the five villages: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore.
The Cinque Terre is noted for its beauty. Over centuries, people have carefully built terraces to cultivate grapes and olives on the rugged, steep landscape right up to the cliffs that overlook the Mediterranean Sea. The breathtaking views of harbours far below the wild but hospitable coastline along with the medieval fortresses and plentiful vines and vibrant colours make this a memorable holiday.
The Cinque Terre, recognized in 1997 by the Unesco Mankind's World Heritage, are today a National Park and Protected Marine Area with the aim of protecting this great cultural heritage and natural environment.
Corniglia is located in the middle of the Cinque Terre and lays on a small cape, 100 meters above the sea. It is the only town without access from the sea. The tiny village is connected to its train station by a footpath known as Lardarina (377 stairs). Corniglia is connected to the other villages of the Cinque Terre by well kept footpaths, maintained by the park staff.
Corniglia is an ancient Roman village that has a long and rich agricultural tradition. The village is surrounded on three sides by vineyards and terraces. Its architecture is closer to that of a rural inland village than that of a coastal village.
In this marvellous village tourists may visit the eighteenth century square largo Taragio with its Oratory Santa Caterina. A charming theatrical scene is set here between the houses and the Parish of San Pietro, which is a perfect example of the gothic Ligurian style and is one of the most interesting monuments of the entire coast. This building was built in 1334. In the interior, the most interesting piece of work is the baptismal basin from the XII century, the statues of the evangelists and the polyptych that is divided into segments that represent the Masters.
Things to see:
• The Parish of San Pietro
• Oratory Santa Caterina
June 29: The San Pietro and Paolo Feast offering the traditional cake "Torta dei Fieschi".
September 8: The N.S. delle Grazie Feast at the Santuario di S. Bernardino.

"Small and perhaps too cosy for comfort"
The photos of the apartment are rather too flattering, I felt. For a single or couple this apartment could be ok, but more than two would certainly be cramped. The second "bedroom" is in fac… More
I completely understand and acknowledge this review.
We finished the house and began renting at the end of April 2012.
Being new in the "business" we surely had lots of faults to begin with: some photos/captions were a little misleading, some furniture was missing and other items were uncomfortable and old.
With time, and thanks to suggestions from our guests we tried to fix up things and improve our rental.
Damp and wet weather for most of May surely did not help us initially, but we tried to address also this issue with a new dehumidifier and boosting our heating plant.

Yes, unfortunately dampness was surely an issue earlier this spring. We had a very wet month of May and this certainly didn't help.
To try and solve the issue we updated the electric dehumidifier and added a few smaller portable ones.
Furthermore we are in the process of re-painting the wall in the living room and the other small stained areas. Hopefully by adding an anti-molding agent we will resolve this issue.
Obviously as Julie correctly points out humidity cannot disappear when it's raining and weather is damp; Corniglia is by the sea and therefore it pays a price for it's beautiful setting.
