The Ionian Islands region
Corfu, or as it is known locally Kerkyra, is the northernmost island in the Ionian Sea & the westenmost part of Greece.
This beautiful island is densely covered with olive groves & cypruss trees, whilst fringed with idyllic beaches, coves & the crystal clear turquoise sea. Inland you can still find unspoilt, traditional villages where you can still encounter donkeys being used as transport.
Corfu is roughly 40 miles long & 20 miles across at the widest point. The highest peak being Mount Pantokrator.
With a typical Mediterranean climate, summers are hot & sunny & winters are mild & often rainy, so the island remains green all year round. In spring Corfu is well known for its abundance of wild flowers, including many rare orchids.
In the past Corfu has had many rulers & each has left it's legacy of buildings & culture. There are Ancient Greek & Roman archaeological remains, Byzantine Churches, Ventian mansions, French arcades & British Palaces to name just a few.
Corfu cuisine is steeped in history & tradition. It is neither spicy or bland, but rich in the flavours of the Mediterranean. Specialities consists of local ingredients found on the island.
Corfu / Arillas area
......ARILLAS....
Away from mass tourism, the very friendly resort of Arillas is the perfect place to completely relax & wind down. If you like sandy beaches, crystal clear seas, beautiful countryside, fauna & flora, magnificent sunsets, a good choice of tavernas serving a variety of dishes & the most hospitable friendly people, then Arillas is for you.
Arillas is ideally situated between Agios Georgios & Agios Stefanos bays & close to Afionas, said to be the most beautiful village in Corfu.
A holiday in Arillas is perfect for everyone - families with young children, couples [ young and old ] even if you holiday on your own, you will be made to feel most welcome.
Evenings in Arillas are focused on the many family run tavernas. There are a few cocktail bars which offer some entertainment. Greek evenings are often held, where everyone is encouraged to join in.
Watersports are available for the more energetic and boat hire.
A 30 minute drive away is the Corfu Golf Club. This 18-hole course has been praised by many as one of golf players best kept secrets in Europe, also Aqualand, one of Europe's largest waterparks offers a great day out.
There are several shops in Arillas. Mini-markets, bakeries, gift shops which sell everything from clothes to jewellery and local crafts. There is also a travel agency where excursions and local cruises can be booked.
....AFIONAS....
The views from Afionas are some of the most outstanding in Corfu. Views of Arillas & the wonderful sunsets on one side of the headland & the view looking down onto Agios Georgios bay on the other [see 'All photos' above] From Afionas you can walk to the secluded Porto Timoni beaches.
This beautiful, traditional village has typical Greek white-wash houses decorated with an array of colourful flowers, narrow streets, a small craft shop, a bell tower and some excellent tavernas.

Guestbook for Villa Theia
JUNE 09 "Our best holiday in the 14 years we have been coming to Corfu. The Villa Theia was so comfortable...the best! Well done Sara for thinking of everything & thank you for introducing us to the wonderful couple, Bob & Penny" Ronny & Lynette. Rheinzabern, Germany
JULY 09 "Villa Theia is a lovely villa - everything you could want for a relaxing holiday. Views amazing. Villa beautiful. Penny & Bob, lovely couple & looked after us well. All in all, a great holiday - sad to leave. Steve, Claire & family.
JULY 09 "Better than we ever expected! The kids were so sad to leave, we were so comfortable here! Loved the pool, the views, The Night Owl. Our son loved 'helping' Mr Bob water the flowers. We really hope to come back & we will recommend it to everyone! thank you " Kym & Patrick & family. Buckinghamshire.
JULY - AUGUST 09 Wow. That is the first word we utterred when we arrived at Villa Theia, and every day we were there. The Villa is beautiful - inside and out. Firstly, Sara and Gary have furnished this place like it is a home, not just a holiday villa. We genuinely felt like we were staying in someones much loved space.
Everything we needed was provided - everything that wasn't Bob and Penny tried to sort out!
The pool area is amazing. The pool is beautiful and the views - well you have all seen the pictures, but they don't do it justice. We started to structure our days around the sunset so we didn't miss any of them.
A glass of something cold on the balcony whilst the sun sets - pure bliss!
All in all we had a great time. Sara is a lovely person, a pleasure to deal with and I genuinely felt she wanted us to have a nice holiday, even checking we got home OK afterwards.
We will be back - might not be in 2010 - but I can't imagine not staying at Villa Theia again.
If anyone is looking for a Villa - look no further, give Sara a call and Bob and Penny will look after you when you get there a treat. Be cheeky and ask Bob for some lemons and tomatoes from his garden - they are lush!
Ian and Gemma.
AUGUST 09 Dealing with the owner Sara has been a joy as she comes across as very genuine & likeable. The villa is located between Arillas & Afionas in a stunning spot looking down an olive & cypress tree laden valley to the sea & out to the nearby islands. Watch out for the steep drive, but once parked this brand new villa is gorgeous. Generously & tastefully fitted out with loads of nice individual touches that give the impression this is someones home rather than a cold holiday let.
We were so impressed with the welcome pack & lovely touches such as dishwasher tablets, toilet rolls, washing up liquid all replenished for us during the holiday. Full clean towel & sheet changes every three days.
Then the best left until last are the sunsets. We didn't eat out as much as usual because wherever we went we felt the view back at the villa was far more stunning than any Taverna could offer. We'd eat on the verandah as the sun set & the swallows dipped down for a scoop of water from the pool.
We always believe there are too many places to visit & not enough time to see them all so we never revisit the same place but for the first time ever we've returned home & rebooked for next year already.
Rob, Susan & family, Alfriston, East Sussex
SEPT 09 One of our best holidays....EVER! We are so sorry that it was so short, but it only means that we have to come back...Bob & Penny were so kind. Thank you for everything. Nickolay, Petar, Nia & Mariyana.....Sofia, Bulgaria.
