High in the pretty mountain village of MAKRADES north west Corfu. our beautiful little cottage had been expertly renovated by Corfu Renovations to a high standard. It has a Traditional Stone exterior with totally new modern feel interior. Lovely private garden with Orange, Lemon and Almond trees is available for your use as is the extensive roof terrace, sun loungers and parasol available for you to relax with a glass of wine or beer whilst watching the sunning Corfu Sunsets.

Local gentle walks around the village and through to Olive Groves are offset by more challaging routes down to Paleokastritsa or along the "Donkey Path" to St. Georges North. Fantastic area for walkers and nature lovers.

The Ionian Islands region

The village of Makrades is surrounded by Olive Groves and mountains the area is especially beautiful in Spring when the wild flowers are in bloom. The ancient fortress of Anglokastro is within easy walking distance via the next village of Krini. Well worth a visit. You can stop at the little taverna just below for a drink or meal. For the beach we recommend a drive down to Paleokastritsa with its famous "clover leaf" bays. several attractions including boat hire, glass bottomed boat, yellow submarine trips and taxi boats to other beaches are available. Also the fantastic sandy resort of St.Georges North with its beach side Tavernas, Bars and Water sports is only 15mins drive to the North. Our favourite for a relaxing day, never crowded being a protected area.

Corfu / Paleokastritsa area

For those wishing to explore the lovely island of Corfu, care hire is recommended. The cosmopolitan Corfu Town is approx. 35 min. drive away. A must to visit at night time when the town really comes alive. Excellent shopping, many museums, galleries and places of interest to see. As well as fantastic restaurants and bars to visit. Easter time has the most spectacular celebrations in the whole of Greece.

A detailed pack is provided in the cottage with suggestions for things to do whilst you are visiting us. We will inform you of any local festivals coming up during your stay. Local Saints Day celebrations are well worth a visit, with dancing,spit roasts and lots of local wine. A taste of the Real Greece.

How to get there

Flights for U.K airports available from 1st May to end of October. Easy Jet now fly to Corfu. Also we recommend trying the Skyscanner website. and Travel Republic.
For best car hire rates it is advisable to book over the internet and pick up your car at the airport. Maps are given by all rental companys and detailed instuctions of how to reach the property will be e-mailed to you.

Further details indoors:
Open plan interior has large kitchen with full facilities, Dining and Lounge area with double doors to private court yard and garden beyond. Separate double bedroom and unusual bathroom with Stone built Rain Forrest shower. Fantastic for cooling you down after a long hot summers day.
There is also a wood burning stove for the odd cool evening in Spring and Autumn. Maid service 2 times per week.

Further details outdoors:
There are 2 good Tavernas within walking distance with exellant home cooked Corfiot food. The small friendly village shops provide all your basic groceries including beer and local wine.

There is an amazing swimming pool at the Golden Fox complex in the village of Lakones (just 15 mins walk)
set on the side of the mountain with incredible panoramic vistas over Paleokastria and beyond.

We politely request that you do not smoke inside the property. Outside is perfectly acceptable.
English speaking representatives are close at hand should you require assistance of any sort.


Please note that acess to the car park is via a single track round the back of the village. Not for the faint hearted.
but deffinatley an adventure. Alternativly you can park in the village car park andwalk round to the property.

Guestbook for The Summer House

The cases are back in the loft but the memory of our holiday in Corfu will last for ever. My wife and I would like to thank Carol & Tony for sharing The Summer House with them.
The village of Makrades with its friendly local people and Tavernas was exactly what we were looking for as a base for relaxing and exploring the island.
We are still enjoying the local honey and olive oil.
