Escape from all the stress, wind down and relax at Villa Lagouteri, Corfu!

If you and your family/friends are looking to rent a holiday home with a genuinely authentic character, which assures peace and quiet, abundant privacy, a comfortable yet traditional house, stunning scenery, plenty of opportunities to engage in various sports and activities, breathtaking views of the Ionian and starlit skies; if you wish to reconnect with nature in a beautiful Corfiot setting, walk the pathways that propelled Gerald Durrell to write his well-known book “My family and Other Animals”; stay at the very house he stayed with his novelist brother Lawrence and their family around 1935, if you wish to be close to all the gorgeous Corfu beaches and just down the road from renowned Achilleio Palace, yet don't want to feel too remote from the island's many vibrant nightspots, shops, restaurants, bars and clubs, then Villa Lagouteri may be your holiday paradise.

Situated in the beautiful neighborhood of Achilleion, Villa Lagouteri is one of the few remaining truly traditional Corfiot villas with all its authenticity preserved. Stretched across 20 acres of unspoilt land, the Lagouteri mansion has been owned by the family for the last four centuries and is now ready to welcome you and offer you a truly unique holiday experience. The 180m2 two-story house which resides within a private gated property was built in 1760 in an olive grove on the top of a hill. It was consequently refurbished keeping its traditional character unchanged. It is now comprised of a kitchen, dining and living room, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a WC. It can sleep up to 8 people.

In addition to abundant privacy, Villa Lagouteri offers breathtaking panoramic views of the island- from the front side of the house forts of Corfu town shine behind the clearly visible Halikiopoulos lake and the view stretches as far as Mount Pandokrator and the peaks of Albanian mountain chains across the Ionian strait; from the back side of the house a delightful forest-like scenery unravels.

Surrounding the house is a 20 acre natural garden offering plenty of exploration opportunities for even the most avid adventurers and ecology aficionados. In there you can engage in a plethora of different activities – you can ride mountain bikes, play badminton, table tennis, take a nap in the shade created by cypresses, olive trees and countless other Mediterranean species; you can even plant a tree yourself if gardening is your favourite holiday pastime or you can just sit comfortably and sip your drink, enjoying the unique atmosphere, open view and soothing sounds of nature.

This traditional villa has hosted many notable guests of the family, including the Durrell's, great admirers of 'this brilliant little speck of an island in the Ionian' with waters 'like the heartbeat of the world itself', as Lawrence Durrell himself described Corfu (in Prospero's Cell).

The estate had been used for production of olive oil for many a year as abundance of century-old olive trees play a leading role in the garden's topography. In addition to olive trees, there are also cypresses, eucalyptus trees, oaks, lemon trees, apricot trees etc. as well as many smaller aromatic plants and flowers.

A gentle breeze, habitually present at the estate, not only makes Corfu summer tolerable during the day but also assures good night sleep at all 3 bedrooms inside the house.

Guests have access to secure parking and a semi-private beach only 1 km down the hill. (Please note that Perama beach is not organized with sunbeds and parasols).

Local bakery, tavernas, butcher as well as mini-markets are all within a 1 km radius.

Combining rich family and estate history with untouched Mediterranean nature, spectacular panoramic views of Corfu island as well as Greek mainland, sufficient opportunities for cycling, driving and even walking excursions nearby with plenty of sights to see and things to do, Villa Lagouteri guarantees an unforgettable holiday.

We strive to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible and sincerely wish that you discover your piece of heaven in our wonderful, truly authentic, Corfu home and come visit again. As the inscription on a marble plate above the front door reads for many centuries now “Fare ye well. The warm heart and cool breezes of Lagouteri await you when you return”.

Should you require rent-a-car services, bike and 4x4 hire, scuba diving excursions, guided boat daytrips etc., please do not hesitate to ask for our assistance in making the corresponding arrangements.

The villa is suitable for all ages, however if you are planning on traveling with small children, let us know in advance so that we can provide you with a cot and high chair, if you so desire.

1st time in Corfu, we will definetely visit again! This island offers enerything, fantastic landsape, great beaches, culture, history, night life. The Old city of Corfu is just great. We had wonderful walks through the old alleys. The Villa was exactly as descibed. You could see tradition just by looking at it. The location is awesome, very quiet and private, with fantastic view! We did enjoy our relaxing moments, walking around the huge landscape inside the villa's surroundings, walking to nearby Achilleion Palace. It was really refreshing. Corfu town is 15m by car, shopping, dining, night life, relaxing in Liston square, biggest square in Greece. We did visit couple of times the nearby village of Benitses and Boukari to enjoy grilled fish food. Corfu island's beaches are just amazing. First days of our stay, we did visit the nearby beaches of Glyfada and Kontogialos. Just great! Later we went on excursions visiting Paleokastritsa, were we visited by boat the caves and went to private beaches to relax. This island is even more beautiful when looking at it from outside! Kids enjoyed the waterslide park but so did me and my wife..! Overall we were vey satisfied with the island and with the Villa Lagouteri. The owner, Kostas and his wife Hana, a young couple, were very friendly and helpful, provided us with lot's of information and things not to miss. The 5* rate fullfills our experience. Corfu is a place to be, the Villa is very nice, will visit again sometime!

It was a real pleasure having you as our guests...although it more felt like having friends over!!
Thank you and hope to see you again soon!
