Paleokastritsa is situated 16 miles north-west of Corfu's attractive capital, Corfu Town. The resort runs along the coast road that winds among the cliffs and sheltered bays.

It is a hilly place full of twists and turns and unexpected views. Paleokastritsa is a firm favorite with British and Italian holidaymakers. Surrounded by lush and beautiful countryside it is one of the most scenic resorts on the Corfu island, but very hilly as well and the lack of footpaths can make walking scary. Night noise can be a problem as bikes scream up the hills.

Paleokastritsa has plenty of visitors but the bay is big enough to contain them without feeling too busy though visiting day-trippers do push up the prices. Spread over three large bays, the holiday focus is on the main beach, a relatively narrow horseshoe crescent of shingle backed by a large car park choked with coaches. Overlooked by the ruined 13th-century Venetian 'Castrizza San Angelo' from which it takes its name, the resort today covers a large area, with holiday accommodation scattered around among the olive groves on the hillside, and alongside the winding coastal road.

Paleokastritsa beach is famous for its clear water and striking blue-green colours. In fact it is one of a string of six spectacularly situated coves. There is a small sandy beach to the north and another small sandy strip around the headland serviced by boat taxis so they are rarely peaceful. Rocks provide great points for diving. Warm blue-green waters wash against the beaches and the bays are popular places to go snorkelling or scuba diving.

The water in Paleokastritsa is deep and unsuitable for children but there are sunbeds, showers and toilets. The main beach is quite small and very popular. It is surrounded

by bars and hotels and there is a road behind it so is not quiet. But the views of the cove are great. You can get a boat here which takes you around the many caves in the area.

Paleokastritsa Shopping

In Paleokastritsa there are not many shops neither supermarkets, except one which is located at the left side of the main road, just a few meters away from the bus station. In addition there are many souvenir shops where you can choose many affordable gifts, Souvenirs, Feaux Bijoux and Cosmetics.

Entertainment/Night Life

Paleokastritsa is not for those seeking lots of lively nightlife but there are plenty of tavernas, bars and a couple of discos to keep you busy if you wish.

Favourite Walks

Favourite walks are up to the promontory farthest north to find the charming Theotokos monastery, the 13th century Venetian Castrizza San Angelo, and to the hills beyond.

You can reach Aghios Georgios with its immense beach by water-taxi. There are plenty of boat trips from Paleokastritsa beach. Add variety to holidays in Paleokastritsa by

visiting Lakones and other hillside villages, where you will find quiet traditional Corfu charm and memorable country travernas. Buses run to Corfu Town for a change of atmosphere.
