The Ionian Islands region

Corfu 'The Gem of the Ionian'...Corfu is the northernmost and second largest of the Ionian Islands, considered by many to be the True Gem of the Ionian. Corfu's Mediterranean summers and mild winters with relative rainfall ensure a lush fertile landscape predominated with olive trees and luxuriant flora. Cypress trees, groves of oranges, lemons, fig trees and grapes also grow in abundance in this westernmost part of Greece. Catering for all tastes Corfu is fringed by sandy beaches and shingle coves yet visitors are never far from traditional inland villages untouched by tourism.
The Corfu / Arillas area
Arillas in north west Corfu is renowned for its beauty, friendliness and honesty of its villagers.
Facing the Ionian Sea, Arillas sits at the bottom of a valley with a backdrop of hills; snuggly nestled in between the headlands of Agios Stephanos to the north and Agios Georgios to the south. Arillas beach for the past 10 years has been awarded the coveted 'Blue Flag' by the European Community for its cleanness and for water quality.
Gently shelving it is ideal for children. Lazy days can be spent on the soft sand beach where sun beds/parasols are available for hire, whilst water sports are available for the more energetic
Lining the beach you will find a variety of locally owned tavernas providing refreshments and delicious homemade Corfiot food, an ideal location for people watching and cooling of after a long morning on the beach!
Entertainment.
Evenings are centred on the many tavernas and restaurants, a surprising number for a resort of this size! The north west of Corfu is renowned for its sunsets. Take a table in a seafront restaurant, watch the sun going down over the sea behind the Diapontia islands of Erikousa, Mathraki and Othoni.
A FEW THINGS TO DO…
AT VILLA LINAKIS:
• Unwind in peace and tranquillity in your own small piece of heaven.
• Relax on a sunlounger by the pool, doze in the hammock, read a book whilst gently swinging in hammock chair in porch or olive grove.
• Enjoy the scents and colours of our plants, shrubs and fruit trees.
• Watch the antics of the birds and in May/early June the enchanting show of the fireflies, the fluttering of the butterflies and look out for our shy families of Geckos and Lizards.
• Listen to the birds, bees, crickets, cicadas and the strange night time calls of the Scops Owl.
• Enjoy the night sky in it’s full glory – no light pollution here!
FURTHER AFIELD:
• Wonderful walks from the villa or simply stroll the circular walk around Arillas.
• Eating and drinking in the large variety of local restaurants and tavernas.
• Stunning seaside villages and historic inland villages in this most beautiful of islands.
• Land of three million olive trees.
• The regions rustic home made wines to be sampled at most restaurants.
• Energetic pursuits: swimming, cycling, walking, diving, water sports, golf, horse riding, water parks.
• Boat trips to the Diapontian Islands, or hire a motor boat and sail down coast to Paleocastritsa.
…BUT NOT FORGETTING….
• Afionas 2km: To the South it provides a fantastic view of the bay of Agios Georgios, or to the North magnificent views of the Diapontian Islands and Gravia "ship island".
• Agios Georgios 3km: With its wide sweeping sandy beach and horse-shoe shaped bay protected by high cliffs, this quiet resort in beautiful countryside is one of the gems of the north west coast.
• San Stephanos 3km: On a particularly energetic day a walk over to San Stephanos is worthwhile for a change of scenery or a lazy day on its large sandy beach.
• Peroulades 13km: The village is unspoiled with a maze of alleyways, mansions and tiny old cottages dating back hundreds of years

A stunning villa with beautiful pool in an olive grove
29th Aug-9thSept 2011
Just returned from our second stay at Villa Linakis - the villa is even better than last year. It's stunningly well equipped and furnished, really pretty and roomy, with a lovely pool and only a few occasional goats for neighbours... but in walking distance of a great beach and lots of tavernas. The owner and people who look after it locally will do anything to make your stay easy and enjoyable - from doing your shopping and booking your transfers, to booking mobile massages and cookery demonstrations. Didn't want to leave!

Stunning Villa in a tranquil location within a beautiful resort
27th June-11th July
Villa Linakis is quite simply beautiful. A truly wonderful villa with fabulous attention to detail. It's immaculate inside and out, and is equipped with everything you could hope for.
We had three kids with us (3, 8 and 15) they spent best part of their days playing in the wonderful pool but when the Greek sun got a bit too much for them there was plenty of things for them to do in the villa, from playing with numerous toys that are there, playing the Xbox, reading one of the many books that are on display or quite simply catching up on the footy on the satellite TV. The villa even has WiFi!
We ate in the villa a lot, the open plan lounge/dining area is bright and fresh, there's also a bbq by the pool area which we used a few times. Most nights we sat by the pool area having dinner while watching the sunset.
Eileen (owner) has thought of everything to ensure your holiday is perfect, there is loads of literature in the villa informing you of various things you can do during your stay, from local walks to day trips and even informing you of the local wildlife around you! Nothing quite beats sitting by the pool at night with a glass of the local wine (very good and cheap) listening to the crickets!
Arillas is a quiet resort (approx 20 mins walk from the villa) with local family run tavernas, bars and shops.
The combination of the incredible Villa Linakis, the friendly atmosphere of the Corfiot people, the beautiful sunsets and stunning scenery made this a truly wonderful holiday, one to remember and will most definitely return.

Team Higgins! Fantastic villa in tranquil location with great pool area
20th May-3rd June 2011
Villa Linakis is a gem of a villa in a quiet location. From the moment we booked Eileen, the owner, couldn't do enough. We have a small baby so needed a cot (the villa has one), a buggy (the villa has one), a high chair (ditto) and a steriliser (she bought us one)! The bedrooms are light and clean, the open plan dining/lounging area perfect in decor and size, and the pool area is the perfect greek sun trap. There are are numerous tavernas a short drive away (you could walk if feeling energetic) and some gorgeous beaches minutes away by car - Agios Georgious the pick. All in all a fab place in a very peaceful location. We will be back...

"Everything you need for a fabulous holiday"
This villa is really special - the best we have been to. The owner has thought of everything to make your stay relaxed, comfortable and all you wish it to be. The house is beautifully furnished, spacious and well equipped.
Arillas is a quiet resort with the usual bars and tavernas and a sandy beach. We enjoyed the walk down to get fresh bread etc. and to have a coffee or a drink and the occasional lunch looking out at the ocean before making our way back to our own paradise. We were reluctant to spend a lot of time away from the villa and pool. The walk back is a 30/35 minute stroll with the last 5 up a very steep hill (good for losing the calories). We hired a car for 1 day and stocked the bar & fridge and visited the nearby resorts.
We ate at home in the evenings mainly on Dawn's delicious menus delivered to our door (what a service) after dinner we watched the sunset and read from the fabulous selection of books provided. Satellite TV is available if you want and WiFi. We have already booked for next year!

6th-13th Sept 2010 Sue & Sid Pyecroft. Swindon.
Thank you for a fantastic week at Linakis Villa. We have stayed in at least 15 villas around the Med over the past decade or so, and this is without doubt the loveliest we've seen.... furnished and fitted out to an amazingly high standard, with beautiful grounds and a lovely pool - you have obviously put your heart and soul into the place and it's been a delight living there for the past week. Wendy and Neill are absolute gems, too, and it was so nice to come home from a hard afternoon on the beach to a delivery of barbecue food courtesy of Sylvia, as well!
You will undoubtedly be hearing from us again.... we're already wondering if we can sneak away for a week next June or so....
One again, Eileen, thanks so much for sharing it with us - and your taste and flair are absolutely impeccable! (If you'd seen the villa we stayed at in Paxos the week previously, you'd understand what we mean!!!)

23rd August -6th Sept 2010. C. Stanford and family, Shropshire.
Many thanks. Once again for the use of your lovely villa. We had a wonderful fortnight and were well looked after by Wendy & Neill. Spiros at Agios Georgios was even better than last time - good windsurfing equipment and sailing boatsetc. Angelokastro was open this time and spectacular and whilst in Corfu town we visited Mon Repos - well worth a visit. Incidentally our car came from Value Plus who were excellent.
With Best Wishes to you both

5th-14th June 2010: Haysom Family, Berkshire.
Just to let you know that we had a superb time at Villa Linakis. What a lovely spot you have chosen to build your villa. We loved everything about it, the views, the olives trees, the layout of the house, the location. The surrounding area and the neighbours were delightful.
Harry's favourite time of day was the evening -we walked up the hill, to see the goats, chickens, cats, rabbits and a lovely older couple took a shine to him and took him on a guided tour of their animals and gave him carnations, which he loved sniffing!! For the last two nights he has made chicken noises at bedtime!!
The toys were just right for Harry and he took a shine to the dolls in the push chair!!
I enjoyed looking at the books in the book case and now have a new book list, for when I get some time!! I also loved looking at the old postcards of Corfu.
Colin loved the pool and when harry had gone to bed, we went for a swim.
I could go on for hours about what was so good...
Anyway thank you again, you can certainly tell you have a passion for Corfu and your villa!!
