Villa Wisteria, a lovely old, stonebuilt house, is the former Kafeinion of the small hillside hamlet of Apolysies. Situated above the unspoilt village of Nissaki on Corfu's beautiful North-eastern coast, it is reached by a road winding up though olive groves. The villa has been imaginatively restored to provide light and spacious modern accommodation, while still retaining some traditional features. It offers breath-taking views of Albania and mainland Greece across the Corfu Channel, and Corfu Town accross the bay. At night, the twinkling lights of the coastal road and Corfu Town opposite create a romantic atmosphere. The charming, secluded patio garden enjoys full sun but also offers privacy and a shady area for dining under a profusion of wisteria and jasmine. The balcony enjoys panoramic sea and mountain views and day-long sun. There is a small swimming pool, which is not overlooked, and a barbecue area. Both the pool and garden are attractively lit at night.

There is a large, well stocked kitchen and dining room on the ground floor which opens onto the patio. It has a Wifi internet access point with free, unlimited GO Broadband. Both bedrooms have air-conditioning. The spacious main bedroom is upstairs and has a super- King sized double-bed, two walk-in wardrobes and a safe. The smaller downstairs double bedroom has a double bed and french windows opening onto the patio. The large family bathroom is a wetroom with a shower and washing machine. Upstairs, there is the main sitting area with TV, some UK channels, DVD, CD player and radio. The balcony off the lounge offers panoramic views of the sea and mountain, also visible from the main bedroom.

Villa Wisteria is ideal for a relaxing get-away-from-it-all holiday, but well-stocked shops and numerous tavernas are all within easy access, at the foot of the hill, 8 minutes drive away (2 kms). For those who are feeling extremely relaxed and just want to chill out at the house, the supermarket and a few of the tavernas will deliver straight to the property.

The nearest beach is at Nissaki Harbour, a 10 minute drive away, where boats can be hired and scuba diving tuition is available. Water sports are available at Ipsos and Barbati, both also close by. The villa is ideal for walking holidays along the beaches or slopes of Mount Pantoktator where wild flowers abound. A Golf course and Aqualand are less than 30 minutes away and there are many outings within easy driving distance such as Kalami, Paleokastritsa, Angellokastro and of course, Corfu Town, which merits at least one day, in order to enjoy the shops, Venetian architecture and museums.

The Ionian Islands region

Corfu is the second largest, and the greenest Ionian island, and also the best known. In Greek, the island's name is Kerkyra (Ker-kih-rah), named after the Nymph who was loved by Zeus. It was Homer's 'beautiful and rich land', and Odysseus' last stop on his journey home to Ithaca. Shakespeare reputedly used it as a background for the 'The Tempest'. In the 20th Century, the Durrell brothers, amongst others, extolled its virtues.

With its beguiling landscape of olive trees, wildflowers and cypress trees, Corfu is considered by many to be Greece's most beautiful island. Rocky coves, stunning sunsets and golden sandy beaches captivate all who visit the lovely North-eastern coast. Corfu has managed to maintain its distinct Mediterranean feel with miles of coastline and walks where visitors can enjoy their holiday. Secret coves, deserted beaches and lively bars and discos ensure that there is something for everyone to enjoy from their holiday.

Corfu Town is well worth a visit with all the style and sophistication of any cosmopolitan centre yet steeped in historical character and age old traditions. It is a delightful place to explore and has several excellent museums. Corfu’s other cultural attractions include beautiful old monasteries, some in magnificent settings, and filled with superb icons.

Nissaki is a small unspoilt resort consisting of a series of traditional villages along the coastal road which lie at the foot of Mount Pantokrator. The main village of Nissaki has a small sandy beach and a harbour where boats can be hired. There is also a scuba-diving school. Nissaki is well provided with tavernas, both along the road and adjoining the beach. There are many charming coves to explore, on foot, or by boat or water-taxi. Watersports are also available at nearby Barbati and Ipsos. Walking Guides for Corfu are available at bookshops and on the internet. Golf is available at Agios Ioannis, about 25 minutes drive away.

Nissaki is near to well-known tourist attractions such as Corfu Town itself, Kalami, where Lawrence Durrell lived, Kassiopi, and Paleokastritsa. Day trips to Albania, mainland Greece and the neighbouring island of Paxos are available from Corfu Town Port. A visit to the monastery at the top of the island, by car, following the recommended route, is worth it, for the stupendous views. Albania seems a stone's throw away and Italy can allegedly be seen on occasions!

"Tranquil and secluded in a beautiful location"

Villa Wisteria is a little peace of paradise and heaven. We didn't want to leave! It is perched high on the edge of a mountain with spectacular views across Corfu and at night all you wanted to do was sit on the balcony with a glass of wine and breathe in the warm air and look out across the bay.

The villa is small and homely, and has everything you need, including TV and wifi. We really didn't need to go anywhere at all...and we didn't!

The garden is very pretty, with its lovely plunge pool, and is totally secluded.

A car is definitely needed, if only to get provisions from the local shop as it is not walkable distance. The resort below the villa is small and quaint and has a few quiet bars and restaurants.

The villa is perfect for couples looking for a quiet retreat. All in all we had a perfect restful holiday, and would definitely return to Villa Wisteria.

"Beautiful view, would go back."

The cottage is quite high up and a car is necessary plus nerves of steel if you encounter traffic but the views make it worthwhile. It is a quirky but charming cottage and we often felt like staying i… More

"Lovely villa set in the mountains above Nissaki"

This is an enchanting villa with loads of character, set on three floors with a secluded garden and plunge pool for those lazy hot summer days. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay and the views over the bay to Corfu Town from the terraces are amazing. The local shops and bars are a 5 minute drive away just off the main road. Everyone is freindly and accomodating, the food and wine are also very good. The road up to the villa is fairly steep and requires concentration when you first arrive.

"A relaxing and idyllic holiday villa."

This is an idyllic and restful retreat with easy access by car to beaches and very good local facilities. Corfu town and airport are an easy 30 minutes drive away. The island is small enough to visit any site in a day and large enough for a lot of variation. There are pretty walks from the villa and it has spectacular views. There is an excellent gift shop in Nissaki by the harbour which I wish we had discovered at the beginning of the stay instead of the end! The villa has all facilities for an excellent and relaxing stay.
