Hi my name is Louise and I would like to extend a warm welcome to Chilbury Mortimer and guide you round our Stone Villa in a quiet corner of Coral Bay by the sea.
Stepping through the gated entrance of Chilbury Mortimer you are welcomed by the heady scent of Jasmine and I hope that you get the same feeling of ‘closing the world out’ that we have as we turn the key in the door!
Inside, the villa is light and airy with white walls and beautiful cool, Italian tiles which flow effortlessly from each room. On the ground floor there's a large Dining Kitchen, Lounge, Double Bedroom and full Bathroom.
The kitchen has beautiful granite work surfaces and is equipped with everything you could need. There are plenty of light cream units, a double granite sink and unusual green granite worksurfaces. It has modern appliances including a tall fridge/freezer, dishwasher, an electric fan assisted oven and ceramic hob and a variety of high quality designer pots and pans to make your cooking experience an event!
Directly outside the Kitchen you will find a large barbecue area with a souvlaki machine (instructions come with this!), there is also an outdoor sink for your convenience.
(You will also have access to the Laundry Room to the back of the property which is home to the washer machine, tumble dryer and a clothes dryer.)
We really have tried to think of everything and hope that you enjoy it!
You may be on holiday and not choose to spend too much time in the kitchen, however if you prefer to stay at home everything is at hand to rustle up a gourmet meal and quite simply you will be pushed to find a restaurant with views that surpass those you will find here! The scene at night is as spectacular as those in the day! Look upward to a star studded sky that resembles a planetarium! The star’s silvery light shine upon the perfect setting for a romantic evening …
The Dining Room has 2 patio doors; one leads out to the large, private infinity pool and the second leads out to al fresco dining area. Sunshine pours through into this lovely open room and it is a peaceful place to have your first cup of tea! The Dining table comfortably seats 6 and does extend to seat 8, the table and chairs are made of solid reclaimed oak which really suits the rustic feel of the villa.
The Lounge is bright with sunshine flowing in through a wall of glass patio doors that lead out onto the main outdoor patio. The room is decorated with a modern Italian lounge suite, fine artwork and solid oak coffee / side tables. The room has a feature fireplace which is heavenly should you visit Cyprus in the cooler months! Of course my husband has given pride of place to a 42’ plasma T.V with surround sound, DVD / CD player and Satellite system! We have also ensured our villa has WI/Fi, so should you have to check emails you can do it from the comfort of home!
The patio doors lead out to the main covered veranda which has wicker furniture. There are heavy scents of orange blossom and jasmine in the air; the kind of smell where you know that you are going to have a GREAT holiday! The Lounge Verandah truly is a wonderful place to relax on a Summer’s evening with a chilled glass of wine! It is absolute 'Chilbury' to listen to the crickets chirping and the nearby ocean sweeping onto the shore.
Completing the ground floor area is a Double Bedroom with adjacent bathroom. The bedroom has cream fitted wardrobes and patio doors leading out to the villa’s terrace. The bathroom is finished with large Italian tiles with mosaic borders, there is a bath with a shower fitted over, toilet and vanity units.
The Stairs has beautiful, ornate balustrade and a large window with far reaching views of distant mountains.
Upstairs, there are two further bedrooms; the large master bedroom has a solid oak, king-sized bed with 2 bedside tables and a dressing table. There are fitted cream units which provide plenty of storage space and a stylish en suite with a double shower, toilet and vanity units. The second bedroom has twin beds, a bedside table, fitted wardrobes and en suite shower room.
Both first floor Bedrooms have patio doors which open on to the most STUNNING balcony. This is where you will be WOWED! Prepare yourself for glorious panoramic views of the blue Mediterranean Sea with magnificent mountains as its backdrop. Day or night, the views are spectacular! In the evening watch the distant cruise liners sail by and the twinkling lights of neighbouring villages.
|Further details outdoors|
There is a lovely feeling of space and tranquility within Chilbury Mortimer that has been enhanced by sun kissed terraces, mature gardens, lawned play areas and modern sun decks. The beautiful natural surroundings extend from large open verandahs to the most breathtaking sea and mountain views and you will feel the stresses of your day to day life melt from you as you take a sip of wine and watch your first sunset!
Plunge into the 10m x 4m Infinity Pool with Roman Steps or relax by the pool on luxurious sun drenched loungers. Chilbury Mortimer is THE place to soak up those rays and as gentle babbling water flows into the pool your senses will not fail to evoke feelings of PARADISE!
There is a patio table by the pool and should you have no desire to leave the waterside - the built in barbecue can be sizzling with local sheftalia and souvla in no time at all!
The outdoor space is wonderful part of the villa and everyone will find their own favourite corner where they can enjoy moments of peace and quiet!
Children will love the lawned areas where we have put a cute double swing or why not make a picnic for little ones to enjoy under the shade of our age old olive tree?!

The Paphos District
Chilbury Mortimer is located 0.3km from the last Bus Stop in Coral Bay. You will find approximately 4 buses passing every hour from the Corallia Hotel carpark which will take you either to Agios Georgious or to Paphos stopping at the harbour, market and waterpark. Buses are air-conditioned and a popular way to get about. (Please do not expect the buses to come and go every 15 minutes. They are kind of reliable and run frequently but there doesn't seem to be an exact timetable!)
BEACHES IN WALKING DISTANCE OF CHILBURY MORTIMER
Corallia Beach - less than a 10 minute walk
This beautiful, sandy beach is quieter than the main beach. There are sun loungers and parasols available for hire, a shop, showers, toilets and changing facilities. You will also find restaurants and cafes on the beach front. The place is great for snorkelling and scuba diving is also available. More suitable for families.
Coral Bay Beach - just over a 10 minute walk
This beach is the busiest spot. Again you have a lovely sandy beach where sun loungers and parasols are available. There are 2 beach bars selling food and kayaks and pedaloes can be hired. More suitable for the younger crowd!
HERE ARE JUST SOME OF THE RESTAURANTS IN WALKING DISTANCE OF CHILBURY MORTIMER!!
Coral Oasis – 10 minute walk
Coral Oasis is very close to Jade Palace and the Keralam, it’s signature dishes are fish of the day or whatever is roasting on the spit outside! A traditional British pub offering quiz nights, SKY sports and live entertainment on different evenings throughout the week.
Yialia’s Taverna – 20 minutes walk
You can walk to this great local restaurant hidden far away from tourists and reserved only for those in the know! Yialio’s can be found on the coast and offers traditional Cypriot food and meze.
Spillies Taverna and Pool Bar – 20 minute walk
Set in a wonderful location with stunning panoramic coastal views, this popular taverna is uniquely built into a cave! The food available is traditional, local and mouth watering. You can enjoy a veritable feast here or simply laze around the pool with a frappe! The pool is 10m x 5m and is not very deep and for that reason I have found it ideal for children. After all if they are happy – we are happy!!
Sea Caves Tavern – 25 minute walk
Sea Caves is a family run taverna offering simple Cypriot cuisine including grilled meats, souvla and mousaka. The views are beautiful and you can witness breathtaking sunsets from the terrace whilst sipping a glass of locally produced wine. Everyone within the family works here from the children to the Grandparents and stepping into the taverna is like stepping into their home.
Samisen – 25 minute walk
A new Japanese restaurant found on the main strip which offers good food and a great atmosphere. The Sushi chefs are flamboyant in their role and delight diners with their culinary tricks and juggling!
Coral King – 25 minute walk
Coral King can be found on the main strip and can be spotted by the huge crown above it’s main entrance. There is an extensive menu that incorporates both local cuisine and a la carte dining. It also boasts a delicious dessert menu for those with a sweet tooth.A popular place with the residents and visitors alike!

Trattoria La Vignia – 30 minute walk
A stylish Italian Restaurant which is more fitting for a special occasion! Dine al fresco under the stars on the beautiful terrace. Trattoria La Vignia has a wide-ranging choice of appetizers, main courses and desserts.
The main strip in Coral Bay is lively and bustling, there are restaurants to suit all tastes along here from Japanese and Chinese to lovely Italians and Greek Tavernas. There are fun pubs along here and also Starlight is the closest disco that is open 'til the wee hours!
BARS AND RESTUARNTS IN PEYIA
This informal local restaurant can be found just off the main road between Coral Bay and Agios Georgios. It is extremely popular with residents and offers both a Cypriot and British dishes. There are great value Set Menus throughout the week as well as a traditional Sunday lunch or Cypriot Barbecue menu on Sundays. Just try their Cherry Pie and you will definitely go back for more!!
Sophie’s Restaurant and JJ’s Bar
Sophie’s Restaurant is run by a British family and they offer an all you can eat themed buffet throughout the week. Different themed evenings include Mexican, Thai and Chinese, Greek or Indian. On Sunday there is a traditional carvery available.
Above Sophie’s the family have opened JJ Bar which has far reaching views of neighbouring villages and the coastline below.
The Mill is an intimate wine bar with a wonderful atmosphere and reasonably priced drinks.
The Jail Pub
Contrary to what you might believe you will not be serving time in this quaint taverna and I’m quite certain you will enjoy the merriment to be had here!
A family run taverna with a warm welcome that specialises in local dishes and first rate Mezes. The view looks out towards the coastline and below you will see the main square in Peyia coming alive with animated conversation.
There is a Supermarket providing newspapers and groceries within a 10 minute stroll of the villa. This is ideal for convenience however for larger shopping lists I would recommend heading for one of the Supermarkets in Peyia or Chlorakas.
If you head into Peyia Village for grocery shopping you will find:
Phillippos Supermarket ocated behind the Church which has absolutely everything at the cheapest prices.
Spiros Supermarket which is relatively new and offers fruit, vegetables and some groceries. There is not as much choice here but you can get some great ‘buy one get one frees’!!
Papantoniou’s is a major chain supermarket that has a fish / meat counter, bakery and delicatessen and you will find this within a 10 minute drive in the neighbouring village of Chlorakas.
Constantinides Bakery is open 24 hours and has fresh cakes, bread and pasteries. They even have a delicatessen counter offering everything from chorizo to sushi!
If you do not want to travel into town then try the butchers in Peyia. The meat is good here although it is a little bit more expensive than you would pay at Papantoniou’s. They also have fresh Kleftiko bubbling in their clay ovens every Tuesday and Friday; this aromatic lamb dish is cooked slowly with potatoes all day and you will find that one portion is enough to feed 2!
If you follow the main road towards Paphos as you pass the first set of traffic lights you will see a Fishmongers immediately on your left hand side. Here you will find every kind of fish and seafood ou could desire from scallops and king prawns to wild salmon, tuna steaks and sword fish. The fish is frozen here and most has come directly from London’s renowned Billingsgate Fish Market.
There are 2 pharmacies in Peyia and another one on the main strip of Coral Bay. Pharmacies are very good in Cyprus and you will find good ‘over the counter’ advise and remedies for common problems.
Dr Eleni is located just behind the main pharmacy opposite the Jail Pub. There is no need to make an appointment here. Dr Eleni is a General Practitioner who specialises as a Paeditrician.
THINGS TO DO OUTSIDE OF CORAL BAY
Paphos is situated approximately 30km from Pissouri. Kato Paphos and the main tourist area is land marked by the pretty harbour and dramatic Fort perched on the waters edge. The promenade is the perfect place for a stroll in the warm sunshine and you will find many taverns offering fresh fish and local cuisine to while away an afternoon whilst watching the little fishing boats bob up and down in the water.
Paphos is rich in ancient sites, including the House of Dionysos and the Villa of Theseus, with beautiful mosaic floors, and the Tombs of the Kings. There is a wide variety of activities and facilities to suit all ages whether you are holidaying or living here permanently.
Enjoy an active life in the sun on a choice of beaches where you can try all water sports in the warm Mediterranean Sea from diving to the flying fish!
Enter a mysterious underwater world to experience life in the fascinating realms of the deep. The Aquarium provides a unique undersea setting of skilfully illuminated caves and rippling water; a marine ambience so inventive as to be impressively lifelike . Now you can admire a spectacular array of colourful fish from different oceans, seas and rivers around the globe. Step into a wondrous, watery world in the heart of Pafos.
Adonis Baths & Waterfall
The Adonis baths and waterfalls are located in Paphos close to Coral Bay. The two level waterfalls at Adonis baths are in a beautiful location and it is well worth the visit. It is a steep climb to reach your destination but a journey that really is well worth it! More accessible in a 4x4 vehicle.
The baths themselves are located below a waterfall and there are high cliffs either side with a few trees leaning over the water. Swimming in the Adonis baths is supposed to make women look younger and more beautiful. For men these waters will make them stronger!. The waters here are quite deep and excellent for swimming. There are also some rocks which are great for diving from. A couple of swings are also located over the water adding to this attraction and you can swing from these into the refreshing mountain waters below.
After you have spent your time admiring the beauty of the waterfalls and swimming in the Adonis baths you can visit the old mill and fournos (large oven) which is located here. The oven was used in olden days by women hoping to catch a glimpse of their lovers bathing. The old water mill was built over 400 years ago by monks and was used by surrounding villagers to grind their corn.
With the largest number of facilities and attractions in Cyprus, the biggest family rafting ride in Europe and virtually guaranteed sunshine for every one of its opening days, it's no wonder that Paphos Aphrodite Water Park attracts over 100,000 visitors each year. Young or old, swimmer or not, there's something here for everyone and everyone's here for fun! - A cool way to spend a hot day - At the Paphos Aphrodite Water Park!
Whether you're looking for pulse-pounding excitement, slippery challenges, relaxing activities and sunbathing, or a combination of all three, there's something for everyone at Aphrodite Water Park. Just click on the name of the ride for a description and photographs.
Hold on to your cossies, it's time to get wet!
Paphos Go-Karting Centre
One of the largest, fastest and most exciting circuits on the island. You can race your friends, family and colleagues at speeds of up to 70mph! There is a range of karts to suit both the novice driver or to test the more experienced, so it's guaranteed that there is something for everyone.
Home to 1600 metres of pure adrenaline combining twisting bends and long straights with flowing corners. Be sure to hold on tight around the two sweeping half handers as you approach the tunnel and make your way over the bridge!
There is also a children's track, a cafe, restroom, snack bar and crazy golf.
WEST OF CORAL BAY
The tiny fishing harbour of Agios Georgios with a great fish restaurant with stunning views of the glistening Mediterranean Sea.
This sleepy village offers a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of neighbouring resort of Coral Bay which is just a 5 minute drive away and is an ideal base for exploring the rugged and dramatic landscape of the Akamas.
This charming village clings to the rugged hills above the crystal waters of the glistening Mediterranean.
While locals like to claim that 'in Peyia nothing happens in a hurry', the truth is that nothing much happens at all! However, it's this soporific quality that imbues Peyia with most of its charm.
Peyia proves a welcome antidote to the bustle of nearby Paphos and is a great place to while away a relaxing lunchtime with a meze and a cold bottle of Keo. Having slumbered through the day Peyia wakes up at night. Taverna tables groaning under the weight of fresh fish fill the central square, the evening air cools and the village comes alive with the sounds of animated conversation.
The Pikini Forest
You will find this on the right handside of the Peyia - Kathikas road. There are communal bbqs here and the code is everything is free to use as long as you leave things clean and tidy. In the height of Summer it is a great place to respite from the sun. Picnic benches are scattered amongst wonderful pine trees and the kids will be happy in the park. If you follow the track for 3/4 mile you come to a point where you look down across Peyia and Coral Bay - the views here are tremendous!
Paphos Bird and Animal Park
About 3 km from Chilbury Mortimer you will find this local attraction. It is nicely set out and lovely for the children to walk around. The Park has a restaurant, bird show, souvenir shop and children's farm. You will find Giant Tortoises, Meer Kats, Giraffes and Flamingoes amongst many more animals here!
Fans of fresh seafood should make for the picturesque fishing village of Latchi, which has some of the best fish restaurants situated along the pretty harbour.
Latchi has plenty to appeal to the tourist. Water sports such as parasailing are available here. Boats can be hired from Latchi harbour from where you can take your boat to the Blue Lagoon and swim in the emerald green sea.
Aphrodite's Bath is close by; the picturesque rock pool and waterfall where the goddess is believed to have bathed, oozes with magic and mystery. Legend has it that the water from the baths is rejuvenating and will bless you with eternal youth! We will let you be the judge! The nearby Akamas Peninsular is an untouched wilderness laced with hiking trails and secluded coves bitten from the pink rock. Offshore, the waters are a glassy mosaic of greens and blues that promise some of the best snorkeling and diving on the island.
EAST OF CORAL BAY
APHRODITE HILLS AND SECRET VALLEY
Close to Petra Tou Romiou you will find a choice of 2 leisure resorts; Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley. Combined these resorts offer superb play on 2 x 18 hole golf courses, driving ranges and a 3 hole pitch and put course. If Golf is not your idea of fun you can relax in the spa, polish your tennis skills with professional lessons and play in the regular tennis social classes or simply unwind and enjoy a leisurely lunch in one of the elegant restaurants set against luscious green surroundings!
PETRA TOU ROMIOU
Close to Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley you will find one of the most photographed scenes in Cyprus, Petra Tou Romiou more commonly known as Aphrodite’s Birth Place. The dramatic rocks look like monumental tear drops in the ocean and are backdrop to the mythological setting where Aphrodite emerged from the waves! You may prefer just to take in the view or if you feel a little more adventurous perhaps climb the largest of the tear drop rocks or swim around it 3 times to be blessed with Aphrodite’s famed eternal beauty! (Legend may claim this to be true but I think it was her last laugh!!)
Perched on the hillside, the views from Pissouri village and its surroundings are spectacular. To the East it is possible to see across the countryside to the shoreline stretching all the way to Limassol and even beyond. The north of Pissouri is witness to the Troodos mountain range, including the snow-capped peaks of Mount Olympus which at more than 6000 ft is the highest mountain on the island!
Pissouri has a quaint, unique character bestowed by winding cobbled streets lined with charming rustic houses. The Cypriot character has certainly been retained and is what attracts so many visitors.
There is an exceptional choice of restaurants and taverns offering a wide range of cuisine; Pissouri really does have it all; from ice creams palours to exquisite fine dining there are restaurants for all occasions!
During the summer there is a traditional 'Cyprus night' in the lovely pedestrianised village square, with dancing and music. It is hosted by the 3 restaurants and their collaboration creates an incredible party atmosphere that is so infectious you can’t help but be drawn into the merriment! There is much Greek Dancing and entertaining whilst you dine underneath the stars and later a DJ with a live band take the evening into the early hours! Although the idea is perhaps to provide entertainment for Pissouri’s visitors, it is also true that a significant number of those present every week are the villagers themselves! Here you can truly enjoy an authentic Cyprus evening but as you can imagine the evenings are so popular that early booking is essential!!
KOURION BEACH AND AMPHITHEATRE
The ancient Hellenistic Kourion Theatre which sits on the top of a hill overlooks the glistening Mediterranean Sea, was constructed probably around the late 2nd century A.D.
The magnificent presence of this ancient relic resonates of times gone by and over the years it’s stage featured raging gladiators as well as plays and operas.
The view from Kourion Ampitheatre is nothing short of spectacular and at its feet you will find the ever popular Kourion Beach. (sometimes spelled Curium). Kourion is a sandy blue flag beach with a gentle shoreline. It can however be a little windier here and as there are no wave breaks it is a great place for wind surfing, kite boarding and even hand gliding.
There are 3 restaurants on the beach and I have to be extremely bias on this occasion and show my loyalty to Chris’s Blue Bar and Restaurant, which is the middle one. This Beach restaurant has recently been refurbished and offers sun loungers, fantastic shower and changing facilities. The restaurant has a varied menu but genuinely it would be a shame to miss the delicious fresh fish on offer. Choose your own fish from the chilled displays or order a great bottle of wine and let wave upon wave of Fish Meze come to you. Believe me when I say that you will not need to eat again that day!
Kourion is a great day out and you will find more locals than tourists on the beach. As Kourion is close to Fasouri Water Park, it can also be a civilised way to end a day of water mayhem!
NORTH EAST OF CORAL BAY
TROODOS MOUNTAINS AND VILLAGES
Cyprus is one of the few places where you are able to walk on sun-kissed beaches in the morning and ski on snow-capped mountains in the afternoon. In the summer months, Troodos is a cool, welcomed retreat from the coastal heat and there are many activities to pursue from woodland pony rides to cycling and walks on dappled pathways leading to hidden waterfalls.
Winter time offers a magical wonderland where you can sip delicious hot chocolate made on location in Platres, have skiing or snowboarding lessons, hire sledges for some real family fun or simply build a snowmen! Wintertime in Troodos is a main attraction for tourists and locals alike and the village square is bustling with people purchasing hot honey nuts and sampling Commandaria wine.
What is there in this life to stop you following the locals to their winter and summer playground and losing yourself in this ageless, rugged landscape?

"Stunning spacious luxury villa in a beautiful location!"
The Chilbury Mortimer was everything and more than what we expected. It has very spacious well appointed rooms with a very modern yet naturally rustic decor which was simply beautiful! The infinity pool was well maintained and the villa was stocked with all the essential items such as beach towels, linen, cutlery, laundry facilities and even tea and coffee etc! The location is within easy reach of the local amenities, the beach is close and the scenery is beautiful especially the subset from the upstairs balcony which offers panoramic views including the stunning back drop of the mountains which looks gorgeous at night! We had a lively time filled with excitement, adventure and romantic relaxation! The Chilbury Mortimer is highly recommended and the owners are so friendly and always on hand to help if needed!

"Chilbury helps you to "chill" to the max!"
It does what it says on the tin so to speak. It is very comfortable, we just arrived and started to relax, that simple. Louise the owner had answered all the questions by e-mail I had sent in advance, and she really has created a home from home. I don't think there is anything she hasn't thought of. There is air con, which was needed as the sun shone, which was what we were hoping for, and it was hot, not that it is a problem because the pool is right there when you want it. The garden and poolside furniture is also everything you need. We tried to think of something missing but well, we just couldn't.
