The Paphos region
Enjoying over 340 days of sunshine every year, southern Cyprus is the ideal holiday destination. It really is 'a place for all seasons', and has something for everyone.
The area from Paphos to the Akamas Pensinular offers everything that anyone could ask of a Mediterranean holiday.
LATCHI is a small fishing village located on the northern coast of the island. Before becoming known as a tourist area, it was a sponge diving area, until sponge supplies run out. On Latchi's pebble beach many tourists and locals alike get their suntan and enjoy a swim but swimmers should be careful because the water suddenly deepens, which is perfect because the water suddenly deepens, which is perfect for the water sports and scuba diving that are very popular in the area. There are many coffee shops and traditional little tavernas that specialise in seafood close to the beach.
LARA BAY is a beautiful remote area with one of the best beaches on the island although the dirt track is quite poor, and its advisable to go with a jeep type vehicle, it's worth it because here some of the finest scenery on the island can be found. Famed for its turtle hatchery where loggerhead and greenback turtles lay their eggs, one of the few places in the Mediterranean where they can still be found, Lara is also home to the Mediterranean monk seal, another very rare species. Beyond the turtle hatchery, the most beautiful beaches with white sand and clear waters can be found, but the water can suddenly get deep and wavy, so swimmers should be careful. The ideal way to reach the beautiful bay is to get a boat from Paphos to Lara so visitors avoid the difficult and time-consuming road trip.
The Troodos Mountains - The Troodos Massif stretch across the centre of Cyprus and are edged with 12th and 15th century Byzantine frescoed churches and monasteries, forests of pine and wine making villages. The area can be reached by car or bus and the nearby resort of Platres is where many take a relaxing break from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Paphos Harbour and Castle - The harbour at Paphos attracts visitors all year round, who take the opportunity to walk along the quay and maybe visit one of the fish restaurants, tavernas or cafes. The view is superb, with lots of colourful fishing boats bobbing in the harbour. The castle is in fact all that remains of a much earlier castle dating from 1391, which was demolished by the Venetians. The Ottomans used it as dungeons and the British as a warehouse for salt! It can be reached via a small bridge over a moat and is worth a visit for the view from the top. Opening hours - winter daily 9am to 5pm.
The harbour is also a good place to take a boat tour of the surrounding beaches and coastline.
The Akamas Peninsula is a very lovely area close to Paphos which is excellent for swimming, cycling and walking. A real treat for nature lovers and there are many trails to explore such as the popular Aphrodite and Adonis Trails.
CORAL BAY has one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the island, and with its sparkling clear waters, safe swimming and sport facilities, it's not surprising that it's a favourite with tourists and locals alike.
The Aphrodite Hills Golf Club is located near Paphos, overlooking the Mediterranean, taking its name from the birthplace of Aphrodite, which it overlooks. Aphrodite Hills has been described as an award winning 18 hole championship golf course and academy. Designed by Cabell B. Robinson, this Cyprus golf course was officially opened in 2002 and is considered to be one of the best in Cyprus. Surrounded by a protected forest, the fairways cut a swathe through lakes, olive and carob trees and the golf course comprises two plateaux separated by a dramatic ravine which offers golfers an original and breathtakingly stunning backdrop. The Aphrodite Hills golf resort itself spans a massive 234 hectares (578 acres) with the golf course weaving in and around the development. The golf course is 6,299m long and plays at a par 71/70.
The Secret Valley Golf Course, is a highly prestigious golf course located by the renowned area of "Petra tou Romiou", the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, the Goddess of love. It is set in a scenic valley surrounded by mature trees and beautiful natural rock formations. Consistently appearing as the preferred course amongst the island's visiting players in terms of sheer playability and enjoyment.
Founded in 1994 on the hills of Tsada, set on the grounds of 12th century monastery, in a verdant valley. Created by Donald Steel and renovated by Mackenzie + Ebert in 2006/07, it plays to a par 71 and measures 5828 meters. Situated on the outskirts of Paphos, the altitude of 550 meters above sea level ensures cool breezes during the summer months.
Coral Bay has many shops, supermarkets, and also restaurants and taverns which serve fresh fish and Cyprus delicacies.
