The North Wales / Snowdonia / Denbigh/Flint/Conwy region
The Coach House nestles in a small community, against the East side of the Conwy Valley. The lush green of the hillsides and fields reflects the temperate climate, that is wonderful for wildlife. Conwy castle , and Betws Y Coed are only 6 miles distant in opposite directions. The North Wales coast , and Llandudno is 10 miles away. Snowdonia is approx 15 minutes drive, offering climbing, walking and canoeing etc., The Plas Y Brenin outdoor pursuits centre in Capel Curing is an ideal place to book 2hr "taster"courses or more..if you wish. The area is steeped in history. The adjacent hotel (originally a gentleman's residence,) was built on the site of a Cistercian Abbey. Chester with all its Roman history is only just over an hour's drive away.
Conwy / Maenan area
Maenan is on the periphery of Snowdonia, a mineral rich and mountainous area, with ever changing weather, wonderful scenery, and beautiful gardens at Bodnant, and Portmeirionin in particular. Llanrwst is a small market town, past which the river Conwy runs . A delightful place to stop for coffee or a light lunch is Ty hwnt i'r Bont on the other side of the bridge in Llanrwst.
How to get there
If travelling from Manchester airport, follow directions to North Wales, and join the A55. Turn off at the sign for Betws Y Coed which is the A470. This takes you down the Conwy Valley, through Glan Conwy and up and over Bodnant Hill. (Do not fork off to the left to Bodnant Gardens.) Approx half a mile from the bottom of Bodnant hill, (It is the only significant hill on this road) you will pass the Tal Y Cafn pub on your right. Approx 1 mile further on you will pass the sign for the Plas Maenan Hotel on your left, and about 1 mile from this point , you will see a cluster of houses and a hotel on your right. They are partly concealed by trees. Prepare to turn right here.
The private road is accessed via a gateway on your right, that has large white balls on the top of each gatepost. If you have gone a little too far you will see the Maenan Abbey Hotel. Turn into its grounds and come out of the other entrance , turn immediately left down the drive. The Gate House is the first property on your right. The car park is the first bay on your left.
The owners live at "Y Stiwdio", which is the second property on the right.
If You are approaching from the A5, continue to Betws Y Coed, and take the A470 at the Waterloo Bridge there, and proceed down the Conwy Valley. Continue through Llanrwst, following the main traffic flow through the square (it flows round to the left). Keep on this road, and after approx 3 miles, you will see the Maenan Abbey Hotel on your left. Prepare to slow right down, indicating to the left as you do so, as you will need to turn a sharp left immediately after the second hotel entrance. You will go through a gateway to a private road with white balls on the top.
The Coach House is the first property on the right, with parking opposite on the left. The owners live at "Y Stiwdio" which is the second property on the right.
