The Cornwall region
From the breath taking views of Falmouth Bay, to the tranquil scenery of the Helford River, the south coast of Cornwall is full of contrasts and plenty of surprises. Like a thick green carpet slung across the land, the hills roll down to the shore where the sea is framed by whitewashed fishing villages and exotic gardens. The sheltered estuaries are ideal for messing about in boats and inland you'll find pretty villages and market towns.
Famous for its beaches and castle and infamous for its smugglers and pirates - Falmouth has protected the deep water and sheltered anchorage of the Carrick Roads since Tudor times.
Truro is a charming city of cobbled streets and elegant Georgian buildings linked by a myriad of ope-ways and river walks.
The Lizard Peninsula is, quite simply, unique. Standing alone in a very real sense, this largely undiscovered treasure is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty,
Goongillings Orchard, lies almost equal distance from all those places of great interest. You'll find all around the area, historic ports and harbours, sandy bays, market towns, sandy beaches, lush gardens, peaceful rivers, Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project, and many other things to explore.
No doubt your stay will sound too short and many visitors come over, year in year out, and consider The Orchard almost as their own holiday home.
The Helford River is a delightful unspoilt estuary stretching from the outer edge of Falmouth Bay up to the old port of Gweek.
The area falls into a Special Area of Conservation, and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is the perfect location for eco and sustainable tourism focusing on the natural surroundings.
In the broad lower reaches open fields run down to a rocky shore dotted with little beaches. On the north bank the beautiful valley gardens of Glendurgan and Trebah lead down to Durgan village and Polwigwidden Cove; famous for its part in the D-day embarkation.
Where the river narrows, Helford on the south shore and Helford Passage on the north are still linked by a pedestrian ferry that has been in operation since the Middle Ages. This part of the river is now largely given over to yacht moorings, with a handful of active fishing boats.
Around the corner in Port Navas, where hugh granite blocks were once loaded for shipment to London, the Duchy Oyster Farm is now thriving again. Further up river, past the oyster beds and beyond Frenchman's Creek to the south and Polwheveral ,to the north, ancient oak woods line the banks creating a truly timeless atmosphere.
This is where Goongillings has it's own private "Scott's Quay", from which you can swim at high tide, catch fish or even enjoy a picnic.

"Great Cottage, beautiful location"
Lovely place in a great location. Easy to get to town (Falmouth) to pick up food or to escape into the wild. Would recommend to people with kids. Good pub up the road.

"Peaceful and private, a real home from home!"
A lovely bungalow with a separate apartment which really suited the grandparents, allowing them to retire early and rise first without disturbing any one else.
Goongillings is located in a beautiful setting with plenty of outdoor space, it even has it's own private jetty a short walk away over the fields! The location is an ideal base for touring the Lizard and the rest of Cornwall.
The house was very comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed, but we really loved the baby grand piano!
We will definitely return!

My wife her parents and I stayed for one week in the orchard cottage. The accommodation was perfect, the in-laws had the on-suit room which was perfect for them having there own bathroom etc. Someone once coined the phrase Location! Location! Location! Goongillings orchard has it in abundance! Once you find it, it's suprising how quickly you become accustomed to the near silence with only the occasional helicopter competing with the Buzzards shrill and the owls hoot. The Inn down the hill was fantastic "Cornish Ale" and real food. I would whole haertedly recommend this Cottage if it's piece and quite you are after. It would be fantastic for extended families and heaven for children.
