Seaside Cottage
About the home
This large cottage is located in a spectacular position on Streamstown Bay, there is a very peaceful feeling about the setting as you watch the tide ebb and flow below the meadow. It is quiet and private yet equidistant from the village of Claddaghduff and Clifden Town, both 7 minutes drive. The Spectacular Omey strand and Island is 6 minutes drive.
The original cottage is over 200 years old. It has been renovated to offer the highest standard of accommodation yet is sympathetic to its ancient origins. The Living room is centred around the original open stone cooking fireplace, completely in tact, and has spectacular views over the Bay. This is a great place to sit around in the evening, with turf peat burning on the fire and watch the sunset.
The large traditional cottage kitchen is very well equipped, with a large gas hob and oven, double Siemens fridge and dishwasher. All presses and cupboards are made with salvaged antique pine, with the original kitchen parlour press and a large antique mahogany kitchen table. There is a separate small utility area off the kitchen with another sink area, storage and washing machine with built in dryer.
There are four large bedrooms and four bathrooms, individually decorated with traditional cottage furniture, high quality beds and linen. There is plenty of room surrounding the house for parking and outdoor cooking and eating.

Clifden Town is the capital of Connemara one of the most scenic regions in Ireland. Established in the early 1800’s at Clifden Bay, it follows the classic 19th century layout: oval in plan, with three principal streets – Market Street, Main Street and Bridge Street, a Market Square, a fine bridewell or gaol, courthouse and harbour.
Clifden today is a vibrant and cultural town which has retained its historic roots while offering a wide range of services and facilities. You will find colourful streets with a great selection of small local food shops – (fishmongers, butchers, fruit and vegetable store, delicatessens and a bakery), numerous craft and gift shops, art galleries and exhibitions and other interesting shops including antique shops, designer clothes shops, jewellery and vintage shops.
A wide selection of pubs and music sessions in Clifden
In between all of these you will find a great selection of restaurants, cafes and pubs. Most pubs in Clifden serve bar food and have live music weekly. On the practical side there are four supermarkets (including Aldi and Lidl), two banks, three chemists, two petrol stations, two churches and a post office.
For many, the allure of Connemara is in the ever-changing scenery, the magical light, walks on the beach, turf fires, the rugged landscape, wildlife and flora, the sense of history or a plate of fresh oysters and a pint of Guinness by the fire singing along to a local music session.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Seaside Cottage. It was exactly what the pictures portrayed and the bay it overlooked was absoultely beautiful. It was great being able to go to the local grocery store and cook our own meals in the fully equipped kitchen and it was relaxing sitting by the fire at night. The cottage is located close to everything you need and the O'Grady's were so welcoming and answered all our questions. I would highly recommend this cottage and would stay here again! |

We had a more than wonderful week in lovely Seaside Cottage! The location is perfect, nice and quiet with lovely views while still only a short drive away from the small town of Clifden. The cottage itself seemed to breathe warm Irish hospitality. Spacious and very well equipped kitchen with a table large enough to seat 8, inviting you to sit over dinner and talk and have fun. Very comfortable living room, bedrooms spacious but cosy, with beds actually better than what we have at home.... It's easy to fall in love with a place like this, which I heartily recommend to anyone looking for a comfortable basis from which to explore beatiful Connemara. |

very peaceful location, luckily the weather was good so could spend lots of time walking, not a lot to do if it is raining & you have small kids, could do with something like a table tennis table/pool table for such occasions |

Stayed in the 4 bedroomed seaside cottage over the May bank holiday weekend. We booked this as a surprise for my mother-in-laws 60th birthday. Absolutely fabulous. Would highly recommend this for a family holiday or for 4 couples heading away for a rural break. Clifden is about 5 mins down the road in a car, and cheap as chips in a taxi if you fancy a few pints in the town. Cottage is well kitted out, nicely finished, wifi, sky tv, etc. etc.
" Our stay was completely magical" Barrett Family, UK, October 2008.
"What a wondeful place for a family reunion! The house was perfect in every way and the surrounding area was stunning, Thankyou for our great holiday" Skrivan Family- New Years week 2009
"Our group had a wonderful stay. The house is so cosy and very well done. We had fun Golfing, exploring Clifden and walking the beach. We will return !! " Von Rosenberg Group, March 2009

The Seaside Cottage was great for our family visit. Just 10 minutes from downtown Clifden, the renovated house included all the amenities needed for our stay. A great kitchen, open living room, and WiFi are included. Shane and Rachael were terrific hosts and answered all of our questions. Close to the ferry in Cleggan, the house has a nice view of the Bay. We would not hesitate to recommend this house to others and we look forward to returning soon.

This Cottage is absolutely fantastic.
It is set in the most idylic situation. Close enough to Clifden town with all that it has to offer but far enough away to enjoy the stunning scenery, total peace and tranquility with the most fantastic views. You can walk straight down to the shore, which we did every evening.
It provided us with the ideal base to explore this beautiful area. The Cottage really is in a great location.
It has the perfect mix of old character features, exposed stone walls, open fireplaces etc with all the comforts of modern day living. It is warm, welcoming with ample hot water for all 9 of us to have relaxing showers every morning, the water pressure was great!
Contemporary lighting, comfortable bedrooms and everything you could ever think to need could be found in the brilliant kitchen which is certainly the social heart of the home. It was the favourite room for everyone in our party aged 9 - 60 years! We spent many late evenings around the table.
The Cottage was immaculately clean and superbly furnished. The attention to detail to get that traditional look with the modern touches have resulted in an amazing place in which it was a privilege to stay.
The owners Shane and Rachael have the balance perfectly right. They provided us with lots of help and advice to plan our trip. Were on hand to greet us and make us feel welcome upon arrival at the cottage but quickly left us alone to enjoy it. It was comforting to know that they were on the end of the phone if we needed them. The welcome pack that was left for us in the Cottage was the best we have ever had and totally unexpected. You may hope for some milk perhaps but wine, chocolate, salmon and a full fruit bowl were just some of things in ours. A lovely touch that was much appreciated.
We found the Wireless Broadband an additional bonus, again something that you would not expect normally. It was a novelty too to have the water to the Cottage sourced from a stream which runs through the garden. It is treated! perfectly safe to drink and we all (ladies among us!) noticed how much softer our skin was and how shiny our hair was too. Another benefit you would not expect!
I could go on and on but in summary, don't hesitate to visit. I honestly do not think you could find anywhere better to stay.
We will be back. Thank you for an incredible time.

"Many thanks for a wonderful welcome. It is a fantastic cottage, we loved the little touches, especially the Le Creuset Pot, the turf fire and the Connemara ponies" Mary & Warren, October 2009.

This is one of the most tastefully decorated houses that we've ever stayed out. The peace and tranquility of the house was so comforting and welcoming. Salmon, brown bread and wine were included in the welcome pack which was an added bonus. This is highly recommended, 5 star, luxuriuous accommodation. Only trouble with publicly recommending it is that we may not be able to rent it so easily next time!
