The County Galway/County Clare region

Galway, the largest county in the province of Connacht, lies in the centre of the western seaboard of Ireland. It covers nearly 6,000 sq. kms, (with over 2000km of highly indented coastline) and is divided by Lough Corrib, Ireland's second largest lake. It has two distinct landscapes - the vast mountainy land of Connemara to the west of Lough Corrib and the rich farming plains of Galway East. The main towns in County Galway are Athenry, Ballinalsoe, Clifden, Gort, Loughrea, Moycullen, Oranmore, Oughterard, Portumna, and Tuam.

Connemara

Galway County is unique in having Ireland's largest Gaeltacht (Irish speaking) region. There are four main inhabited Islands off the coast of Galway including the world renowed Irish speaking Aran Islands and Inisboffin.

The cottage is about 3 miles from Oughterard 'Gateway to Connemara' beside Lough Corrib and offers excellent shops and restaurants, heated swimming pool, tennis court, pony trekking and 18-hole golf course. Fishing on Lough Corrib 4 miles and boat hire available.

"Disappointing"

Pretty setting, has possibilites. Old cottage is charming.
However, a number of little details made the visit very disappointing:
No towels or bath soap provided (and no place in town to purchase towels); beds not made up upon arrival; the whole cottage smelled musty. Lacks privacy, as cottage is part of a mine exhibition (i.e. public toilet attached to the back part of the house). Washing machine, but no dryer. Lamps in living room had burned-out bulbs. Owner charges extra for electricity used!
