About the home

This elegant house is architect designed and was lovingly constructed in 2009. The house combines a sophisticated beach house feel with the stunning modern design - and all in the most scenic of settings. As soon as you approach the house you will be struck by its modern beauty.

The house is attractively furnished in a luxurious and contemporary manner. Beautiful oak floors run throughout the house with underfloor heating. Beautiful handcrafted furniture is dotted around the house. An elegant Italian sofa centres around a log burning fire in the sitting room. The kitchen is handmade to the highest standard and will meet the demands of even the most exacting of cooks. Each bedroom is comfortably furnished and appointed in fresh white linens. The bathrooms are fitted with powerful showers and luxuriously tiled.

The house is surrounded by a private garden with views to the mountains at the rear of the house. Outside the kitchen is a patio with a gas barbeque and outdoor furniture- perfect for dining al fresco in the long, bright connemara evenings. The patio leads down to a sun-soaked sunken terrace to the front of the house, ideal for private lounging. A balcony runs the entire length of the house and can be accessed from the kitchen or sitting room- the perfect spot for morning coffee.

The sitting room and kitchen are enclosed on one side by magnificent floor to ceiling windows which allow you to take full advantage of the ever-changing Connemara light, for which Roundstone is renowned. A raised log burning fire provides the perfect backdrop to every evening.

The kitchen has a stunning high ceiling which creates a tranquil sense of space and light. The kitchen/dining area centres around a beautiful oak dining table which comfortably seats 10 people. Not only does the ktichen have floor to celling windows to one side, it also has, to the other side, a fabulous view of the towering Errisbeg Mountain- every way you turn you are surrounded by Roundstone's natural charm.

A terrace runs the entire length of kitchen and living room and is accessible from both rooms- it catches the sun throughout the day making it the perfect spot for morning coffee, lunch or an evening meal.

Off the kitchen is a snug which doubles as an en suite bedroom. The snug is fitted with a top quality futon and can be separated from the living areas by a sliding door. The snug has its own private shower room, fitted with a walk in shower and tiled in shimmering quartz tiles.

Upstairs are three double bedrooms, each with fitted wardrobes and top quality beds dressed in crisp white cotton linens. The master bedroom is extra spacious and boasts a superking bed, handmade dresser and en suite. The master bedroom is crowned with spectacular views reaching out over the Atlantic Ocean. There is a separate bathroom on this floor with a bath.

Directly behind the main house is an outhouse which is securely connected to the main house. The outhouse has two bunkbeds and is ideal for older children. The outhouse is also home to walk-in waterfall shower- perfect for long hot showers or for refreshing after a day at the beach.

Conditions

During summer months bookings are taken on a week to week basis.

Please note, however, that in off season we will be happy to consider short term stays of 2-3 days and will do our best to accommodate you where at all possible. Please do not hesitate to contact us in this regard- just email us your enquiry or call and we will get straight back to you.

We will ask for a 30% deposit to confirm your booking and the balance to be paid in full by 56 days prior to arrival.

A security deposit will be taken upon arrival and returned upon check out.

Galway City and County has much to offer. The city itself is hive of activity and is the cultural heart of Ireland. A short drive westwards out of the city leads you to the rugged beauty of Connemara. A break in Connemara can be as action filled or as relaxing as you wish. Try mountain walking, cylce ( or drive!) through the magnificent Ineagh valley, visit the majestic Kylemore Abbey and its restored period gardens, swim in the beautiful waters of Dog's Bay, and much more.

The Connemara / Roundstone area

The house is situated in Roundstone- a quaint fishing village in in the west of Ireland which is famed for its magnificent beaches and mountain views. The house is only a three minute walk from the centre of Roundstone village and a twenty minute drive from Clifden.

The village is dotted with lively traditional Irish pubs and restaurants serving excellent food.

Whether you are interested in hiking, cycling, surfing, golfing, strolls on the beach or simply relaxing in the breathtaking beauty of Connemara, Roundstone is the perfect location for you.

The nearest international airports are Dublin, Shannon and Knock. Aer Lingus, Ryanair, BMIBaby and Flybe all have flights to these airports. Almost all major international airlines fly to Dublin or Shannon. There is a direct non-stop service from Dublin Airport every hour with GoBus and Citylink. Citylink also provide regular buses from Shannon Airport to Galway, as do Bus Eireann.
The nearest regional airport is Galway. Fly to Galway with Aer Arann from Edinburgh, Luton and Manchester.

Car hire is available at all airports.

Roundstone is approximately a 1 hour drive from Galway city and Knock, 2 hours from Shannon and 4 hours from Dublin.

Dublin to Roundstone: 290 km
Shannon to Roundstone: 160 km

From Galway take the N59 to Clifden for approximately 60 km, then turn left onto the R341 which will bring you to Roundstone village.

“the perfect contemporary setting for a traditional holiday” We have never stayed in such a modern setting before and my teenage and grown up children just loved it. The ground floor is a flowing open plan split level to the lounge/ sitting area, then stepping up to the dining and kitchen area which is double height. Such a lovely south facing space fully glazed to the garden and lovely views of Errisbeg to the north west behind.The kitchen is very well appointed but does miss a microwave to do my youngest's weetabix in the morning. On the ground floor is a snug that doubles as the fourth double bedroom with a shower room, the position of which gives some separation to the kitchen to the lounge area. Upstairs is a generous master bedroom with ensuite shower and two double bedrooms served by a family bathroom (with bath). Linked to the ground floor is an ancillary block which houses a fourth very generous walk in shower perfect for getting rid of the sandy beach trips, a well equipped utility room and the boiler room. The boiler room is large enough for a double bunk but the point of the separateness of the utility block is clear when the 'heat pump' kicks in. It's noisy but you can't hear it in the main house. The underfloor heating is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT and I am now a converted fan...it is just so comfortable. The house's only fault my children tell me is the lack of wifi, but for me it was a bonus. We talked! We had a perfect stay, with most days on 'Dogs Bay' the most perfect beach ever just 5mins away, windsurfing, power kiting, skinny dipping and then enjoying the marvellous kitchen to cook some epic meals. I plan to come back.
