Home description

The perfect rural holiday retreat, 'Tethera’ is a brand new barn conversion. It has been converted throughout 2008 from its old cow shed origins and brought up to luxury contemporary standards in a stunning style best described as "rural chic". It boasts the latest in modern conveniences such as full underfloor heating, whilst maintaining the intimate features of a classic Lakeland barn.

'Tethera’ is in an enviable position overlooking the River Crake at Lowick Bridge, three miles from the foot of Coniston Water. It is easily accessible, with the main A590 only four miles away, but the only road that passes the farm is a C-road, which together with its surrounding fields and woodland ensures that the tranquility of the location is preserved.

Tethera boasts five luxurious, individually designed and furnished rooms easily sleeping ten adults, with the option of sleeping a further two children in the bed settee located in the family room. This makes it the perfect location for a reunion, big birthday event or just a chance to chill in company of good friends

Everything you require is provided should you decide to cook for yourself and make the most of the range in the brand new handcrafted American walnut kitchen. The large kitchen, fitted with bespoke handmade units and stunning granite work surface, has a unique glazed double aspect outlook to the rear garden and out over the meadows to the River Crake. Visiting Canadian geese and heron are a regular sight!

The rear garden is a tranquil south facing 'sun trap', ideal for al fresco dining or simply listening to the gurgle of the river Crake with a chilled glass of rose. The adjoining meadow offers private and exclusive access to the banks of the river - perfect for a picnic or a quick dip in one of the many deep pools.

Whether you would like to simply enjoy the complete quiet of ‘Tethera‘, taking cycle rides or walks out from your door (whether for a leisurely stroll among the fells, hills and tarns or just a quick trip to one of the two friendly pubs within walking distance), or for use as a base for sightseeing the beautiful landscape of the Lake District National Park, the location could hardly be better.

The upper accommodation

Master En-suite (sleeping two adults)
A large, bold, sun-filled master bedroom with high ceilings, magnificent beams and wonderful views out toward the river Crake. Feature wall, serene Farrow and Ball colourings, wool carpets, original artwork and flat screen TV make this a special room.

The king-size bed has a deep pocket-sprung mattress, luxurious Egyptian linen and is piled high with stunning cushions and throws. A triple door oak wardrobe ensures plenty of hanging space and a huge stylish en suite with large shower bath and enormous mirror completes the package.

Tree Double (sleeping two adults)
The classic second bedroom is another large bedroom with two windows that drench the room with afternoon sun. Lying on the deep pocket sprung 4’6 divan offers a divine outlook down toward the river. Envelop yourself in the luxury of Egyptian linen and treat every morning as a Sunday morning. The country style ’shabby chic’ painted wardrobe and oak dresser offer bags of outfit space and adds to this uplifting, serene environment.

Twin Bird Room (sleeping two adults)
A funky twin room with two three foot cream and oak beds. High ceilings give this room a light and airey feel, while the flamboyant feature wall and modern fabrics add a feeling of fun. Plenty of drawer space is provided and an external dressing room offers unlimited hanging space.

Bathroom
In between the Tree and Bird bedrooms lies the family bathroom. With a huge shower bath, heated towel rail and large mirror there’s plenty of room to unwind in.

The Lower Accommodation
Tethera is fully equipped with everything you need to make your holiday, weekend or short break exceed everyone’s expectations.

The main room is a huge, light, open-plan living and dining space from which you can step out onto a big South-facing terrace with a Weber barbecue and plenty of garden furniture so that everyone can enjoy al-fresco dining. Exposed beams, tiny feature windows and deep walls are enhanced to radiate the history of the building.

Enjoy dinner on the beautiful dressed oak table, then take your pick from deep comfy Italian sofas or the exquisite soft Collin and Hayes leather couch. The large flat screen TV offers numerous channels or choose from the dvd collection. A great space for socialising, reading or just relaxing.

The lounge area links to the huge fully equipped kitchen, with a large electric double oven range cooker, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave and everything that you could possibly need. Swamped with light from the dual aspect glass walls this is a special kitchen, and with a view like this you’ll be fighting to cook!

The Family Bedroom (King sleeping two adults, Sofa Bed sleeping two children and linked to bunk room sleeping two)
Another stunning, large bedroom, with high vaulted ceilings and French doors leading to a courtyard garden. The perfect retreat in the middle of the day. The king size bed with a deep pocket-sprung mattress is piled high with fabulous cushions and throws, to complement the serene and tranquil colour palate. It also has a state-of-the-art Italian sofa bed, complete with a performance mattress, making for a very comfortable night's sleep and extending the sleeping capacity of ‘The Tethering’ from 10 to 12. A flat screen television completes this family room.

This wonderful large room connects with a small bunk bedroom (with adult size bunks) and additional toilet, making it perfect for families or maybe the nanny quarters?

These two rooms share a stylish shower room with an all singing all dancing shower enclosure complete with seat and mirror!

The Laundry Area
An additional room with bespoke fitted ash units, housing the washing machine and tumble drier, offers the opportunity for a separate ‘kitchen’ area for the ground floor bedroom.

Further details outdoors:
The Exterior
Enveloped by the best dry stone walling, the private parking offers parking for up to three cars (additional parking at the farm 100m). The courtyard garden is in lovely Lakeland sets, while the 'sun trap' of the southern facing rear terrace is flagged with stone, with slate wall seats completing the Lakeland charm.
Lovely large patio pots inject a splash of colour to the otherwise lush and fertile green, jade and olive hues of the local pastures and woodland.

Further details

This property is best suited to eight adults and four children, although the bunk bedroom (linked to the family room) will comfortably take adult guests.
