Home description
Set in an idyllic location at the access to the Duddon Valley, this traditional Lakeland house is newly refurbished to a high standard with a large living room, separate dining room and well-equipped kitchen. Sleeping up to 10 guests it is ideal for families and mixed groups. Plenty of good-sized rooms to get together in, plenty of different rooms for everyone to do their own thing!
The Duddon Valley, which inspired many of the writings of William Wordsworth, is one of the hidden gems of the Lake District. Here you can truly relax and appreciate the slower pace of life coupled with wonderful scenery and abundant wildlife. Nearby lie Harter Fell, the Ulpha Fells, Dow Crag and Coniston Old Man. Yet better known areas - such as the Langdale and Wasdale valleys together with the towns of Hawkshead, Ambleside and Grasmere - are but a relatively short drive away.
Spring Bank lies just a mile from the historic market town of Broughton-in-Furness, which has excellent amenities including restaurants, post office, butcher, baker and grocery shop. In and around Broughton you will also find some of the best pubs you could wish for, including several award winners. With six pubs within a couple of miles of Spring Bank offering good quality food alongside their real ales and roaring fires, you will be spoilt for choice as to where to dine out.

The Cumbria/Lake District
The Lake District plays host to some of England’s best known and most beautiful scenery. While the central area, around Windermere and Ambleside, attract most of the visitors, those in the know head to less frequented spots, such as the Lake District’s south-western peninsula. Here the mountains meet the coast to give dramatic and unique vistas. With a wide range of tourist attractions, historical sites and leisure activities, this part of the Lakes has so much to offer we are sure you will want to return again and again.
Coniston area
Staying at Spring Bank the whole of south-western Lakeland, including its coast, is on your doorstep. Family days out include the South Lakes Animal Park at nearby Dalton, where you can see Amur and Sumatran Tigers, Muncaster Castle with its owl sanctuary and adventure playground, Eskdale minature railway, the Lakes Aquarium and boat trips on Coniston Water.
Several walks can be made straight from Spring Bank’s front door and several guides to local walks are provided for visitors to use. We also suggest some of our own favourite activities such as the Wallowbarrow Gorge Walk, a visit to the Duddon River “Beach” (take fishing nets and buckets for the kids), the view from Kiln Bank pass, particularly at sunset, a walk along the World Heritage dunes at Roanhead and a trip to Swinside Stone circle.
Leisure activities close by include golfing, fishing, canoeing and horse riding. During the summer some villages put on annual shows. These are well worth a visit to get a real feel for local life from Cumberland wrestling and fell races to stick making competitions and well groomed Herdwick sheep.
