The Andalucia region
This area of the Costa de la Luz offers spectacular, seemingly endless, clean beaches and an amazingly beautiful and diverse interior. A far cry from most of the other Spanish coasts it is largely underdeveloped and unspoilt and therefore extremely popular with the Spanish themselves.
Short winters and a mild climate allow residents and visitors alike to enjoy lots of time outdoors. Be it for playing golf, kite surfing, strolling along white sandy beaches, horse riding, taking part in a local fiesta or just enjoying some ‘tapas’ and a glass of ‘vino tinto’ in one of the local bars, there are plenty of activities to choose from.
The region is authentic Andalucía, steeped in Spanish and Moorish history and culture.
Conil is perfectly situated for exploring the surrounding parts of Andalucia 'los pueblos blancos' and is a short drive away from one of the oldest cities in Spain, Cádiz, where Columbus set sail to discover the Americas. Other day trips include:
- The beautiful city of Sevilla (approx. 2 hours in car)
- Jerez de la Frontera home to flamenco, horse riding and the Sherry vineyards or "bodegas" (45 minutes)
- Vejer de la Frontera another "pueblo blanco" set further inland on a hill top is easily reached in 15 minutes
- Nearby Tarifa offers all kind of adrenalin-fuelled watersports including kite surfing and windsurfing and from there it is a quick journey across the strait of Gibraltar to Morocco and the north african Rif mountains.
Migrating birds from the African continent; African swallows and swifts, flocks of flamingos and nesting storks can all be seen all over Cádiz and there are many nature reserves to visit, including one of the most important wetland regions on the Iberian peninsula.
Conil de la Frontera
Conil is a picturesque seaside village, located on the Costa de la Luz, in the Cádiz province of Spain. It is a typical Spanish fishing village, with white walls and streets - a "Pueblo Blanco". The sea plays a large part in its history. The town itself is perfectly situated between soft woodlands and golden stretches of coastline.
There are around 20,000 people living in Conil but it swells with visitors in the summer months. The village has 362 bars, restaurants and cafes, along with an impressive 16 kilometres of beach.
The beaches of the Costa de la Luz are a magnet for tourists both spanish and other nationalities. It is particularly popular with Madrid's young crowd. Likewise families, couples and people of all ages are drawn to the unspoilt coastline and there is a lively vibrant night life during the summer months.
Conil is ideal for those who wish to experience the real Spanish way of life away from the package holiday scene.
Temporary 'chiringuitos' wooden structures, summer bars and restaurants, appear along the beach in the summer. Aside from eating and drinking and regular beach activities like soaking up the sun and swimming in the clear Atlantic waters. Local activities also include:
- Kite surfing
- Whale watching (in Tarifa)
- Golf (there are many award winning golf course close by)
There are many local ferias and fiestas in Conil and the surrounding villages. Two fiestas not to be missed are the Feria del Caballo (Horse fair) in May in Jerez and Carnavales in February (Cádiz)

"Great appartment, beautiful town."
This was our second visit to this apartment and we will certainly be coming back again. The apartment is well equipment and perfectly located for restaurants and the beach without being noisy.
There are two good sized bedrooms with a very comfortable open plan kitchen/living room. The whole apartment has a lovely homely feel.
There are two roof terraces to enjoy and great views from the top terrace of the town and sea. There's a built in barbeque on the lower terrace which we fully utilised (there's a small butchers shop a short walk away for all your needs). If you'd rather someone else do the hard work there are plenty of fantastic restaurants a short walk away where you can soak up the atmosphere and watch the world go by.
Looking forward to our next visit.

"Great place for a relaxed family holiday"
Conil is a perfect little town with lovely quiet beaches, an interesting old centre and a very Spanish feel. The apartment is cosy and nicely decorated and very convenient for beaches , restaurants and shops while still feeling peaceful and tucked away. The owner, Deborah could not have been more helpful providing a cot and high chair for our little girl on request and researching travel options for us to Seville. I really recommend this as a lovely, relaxing place to stay and for those with young children, there is a stair gate which was a godsend as the upper stairs are a bit treacherous!

"A perfect combination of a stunning holiday destination at the same time as being in authentic Spain."
Beautiful setting, stunning rooftops views, comfortable accommodation and a town full of life with a really authentic Spanish feel to it. Convenient location for both the beach, the town centre and for the coastal road. Top holiday spot.

"Authentic Andalucia in a homely place at the heart of Conil"
I stayed for two and a half weeks in this wonderful apartment and I can say wholeheartedly that I enjoyed the experience thoroughly. My reasons: First, Location, location, location: I cannot think of a more picturesque and authentic Andalucia than living in the heart of Conil de la Frontera AND at the same time, being so close to such a lovely beach. I felt I was on vacation right from the start. I could walk with my family and in less than three minutes we were either on the beach or in the centre of Conil where all the lively restaurants, shops and everything was there. Second, the apartment is authentic Andalucian style and therefore has character. It has all that is needed to serve a family like mine. It does what it says in the tin, a nice neat space for a family in the centre of Conil. The Andalucian neighbours are nice and frienly and we loved the fact that we could do barbecues on the two terraces at the top of the apartment while watching the sunset in Conil and all the swallows singing around us. It made us feel true Andalucians. We had breakfasts, lunches and dinners outside in the terraces all the time! Another good thing is that a small groceries shop is very close in the same road, so any extra things we needed for example to cook, were less than a block away.
I would definitely recommend this apartment for long holidays and for families, the feel of the apartment is that it is a well-cared for. It gave us a positive happy and homely feeling atmosphere. We certainly enjoyed it.

"Perfect location, excellent views, amazing holiday..."
The apartment is situated in a perfect location in Conil, 5 min walk to the beach and shops in all directions. The terrace is great for BBQ's with a small butchers and shop round the corener you are spoiled for choice. The town of Conil is unspoilt and offers great evening entertainment for a traditional Spanish feel.... tapas and small bars are a stones throw from the apartment.... There are plenty of places to visit in the surrounding area. The beach and beach bars are great. The facilities in the apartment are just what we needed for our break, clean and fresh apartment. The views from the balcony, especially at sun set are perfect.... will be going back next year!

"Comfortable apartment in genuine small-town Spain next to great beach."
Our second visit, since it is a really convenient apartment in the narrow streets of the old part of Conil. Also appreciated the well equipped kitchen/open plan lounge, barbecue patio and rooftop sun patio. Apartment is within 10 minute walk from the enormous sandy beach and quaint town centre; with a small supermarket within 50 metres. Good to be in real Spanish Spain, where not everybody speaks English. Other small traditional Spanish towns nearby, with Cadiz, Gibraltar, and Seville within a day trip.

"Traditional spanish 'piso' with character"
I stayed with my husband, sister and small baby. Despite the weather being unusually awful while we were visiting the area, we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay due in large part to our choice of accommodation. There are heaters in the appartment for when it's cold and the roof terrace was fabulous for when the sun came out. We are often disappointed by the cooking facilities in rental properties but this appartment has everything you will need for self-catering stays. Conil is a great location for families with a relaxed vibe, nice beach and good selection of restaurants and cafes. It's also close enough for easy day trips to Cadiz and Jerez. We were able to find a parking space right outside the appartment every day.
