The Costa de la Luz / Cadiz Province region
The Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light) between Cadiz and Tarifa at Spain's southernmost tip, is an unspoiled, windswept stretch of coast characterised by strong, pure light - the source of it's name.
Jutting out of the Bay of Cadiz and almost entirely surrounded by water Cadiz lays claim to being Europe's oldest city. The joy of visiting Cadiz is to wander along the waterfront with its well tended gardens and open squares before exploring the old town which is full of narrow alleys full of market and street life.
Conil de la Frontera area
Conil de la Frontera is a popular, ancient fishing town located on a hillside close to the river Salado. Conil is one of the few authentic fishing towns left on La Costa de la Luz. In recent years it has become a very popular summer destination, for both national and international tourism. Thankfully, it has managed to preserve its traditions and customs, and this is undoubtedly one of its main attractions. Another attraction for many is the quality of the surf.
Conil beaches regulary enjoy good surf, even on relatively calm days when the flags on the beach are green, there is still fun to be had on the waves.
How to get there
Conil de la Frontera is within easy reach of local airports, only 1 1/2 hours drive from Seville and 1 hour from Jerez. Fly with Ryanair.com. DoyouSpain.com also offer good car hire rates. Gibraltar and Malaga airports are 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 hours drive away respectively. Many major and budget airlines fly to Malaga.
