Farmhouse | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 10
Le Port sits proudly in the centre of its own 18 acres of land with stunning views overlooking the Vienne River and the 12th century church and chateau in Manot. The property has its own extensive frontage onto the river, which is excellent for kayaking (2 provided) and fishing. Or just take the small rowing boat and float out in the sun with a book... Quiet and peaceful, yet only fifteen minutes from the market town of Confolens, the farmhouse is on the Charente cycle route (2 bikes provided) with excellent swimming lakes locally if you can tear yourself away from the pool.
The farmhouse benefits from its own 12x6 metre luxury private pool, heated via the geothermal system that conversely is switched to heat the house in winter. Leading from the huge kitchen/dining room is a covered terrace or 'summer kitchen' with stunning views of the river and village on the other side, perfect for dining al fresco or just lounging in the shade with a book . With one double and two twin bedrooms, the farmhouse is ideal for families, with plenty in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay.

Huge lounge with feature fireplace. Contains a double sofa bed and in summer this room is rarely used, so effectively can become another bedroom. Kitchen/dining room is another huge room kitted out for the professional cook with American fridge/freezer if you want to do something more advanced than bbq. There is a dining table for 10 here but in summer we generally always eat outside in the 'summer kitchen' with table and chairs for 10-12 and patio seating for 4. The master bedroom contains a classic renovated king size bed with the best quality memory foam mattress available. If you are feeling active, there is a cross trainer in the room. This room has the ensuite shower room with double sink, big head shower and toilet. The other two bedrooms also have antique beds and are both twins. One room has a futon and the landing has another single sofa bed. The family bathroom has a luxury shower cubicle, separate bath, toilet and washbasin.

The pool is salt water (wonderful for the skin) and is heated with the geothermal system and has a security cover that slides over the surface of the pool when not in use. This is operated automatically from the pool room and will be explained. The pool automatically adjusts the pH level therefore is very pleasant to swim in. It is also floodlit internally. There is also a solar heated shower. The pool is the same depth throughout - 1.5 metres - and reaches 27-28 degrees in the summer. The house is up a long driveway that is not made up - beware if your car is low profile. Please note that there is a small, very quiet road between the house and the river. Two bicycles are available and another two could be made available. Please enquire. There are two kayaks and a small rowing boat. Please note that safety floatation devices are not available, but the river is no more than 1 metre deep.
The house is the owners home and is only available at certain periods in the year when we are back in the UK. Nick and Jayne are on hand to welcome you and will answer any questions that you have. They also can offer a concierge service for your stay including providing nutritious and delicious three course meals delivered to the house, accompanying you to the vets/doctors/taking you to the airport etc. Chickens are on site to provide fresh eggs (hopefully 4 daily!).
The Poitou-Charentes/Vendee region
The Charente region has a micro-climate that makes it the second sunniest region in France. Local produce is easy to find and the region is famous for its Pineau, wine, beef and, of course, the Charente Melon!
There are many places of interest which are not expensive or commercialised. There are Chateaus to visit, rivers and lakes to fish and swim in and many villages with their own local sunbathing, swimming, canoeing spots and markets for local produce.
Confolens is a beautiful town on the river Vienne.
There are shops, supermarkets, markets for local produce and all amenities, including restaurants, bars and cafes.
The Confolens festival is world famous for bringing artists globally to perform in music and dancing in the streets, mid August. There are local animal parks,a lido, archery, horseriding, a velo rail, aquarium at Limoges,a fun park with rides and water slides at Limoges and the fantastic Futuroscope at Poitiers. There are golf courses at Limoges and a Roman Baths which has been preserved in fantastic condition. The village of Oradour-sur-Glane is nearby. Here the Nazis massacred a village and it has been left as it was (not good for young children).
