Barrusclet
About the home
Barrusclet is set within its own 40 acres which is a mixture of garden, farmland (mostly hayfields) and oak woodland. The natural world is truly on the doorstep, and we regularly see deer, red squirrels, birds of prey, owls, bats, a huge variety of insect life, lizards, wild flowers and so it goes on. Our nearest neighbours grow vines and sunflowers, make hay, and keep a few lovely creamy cows that meander about in the distance. It all makes for a constantly changing and charming landscape, which remains interesting whatever the season. This really is an amazingly private and idyllic place to be. An evening BBQ beneath the stars, or a lazy lunch under the shade of our beautiful magnolia tree are perfect ways to relax on your holiday. Plenty of garden chairs and tables are available for you to use, as well as a hammock to lie back and dream in.
The Heated Roman style swimming pool (12m By 6m) is within view of the house and is sheltered on two sides by stone barns, and has views across open countryside from the pool terrace. It is a saline pool, which everybody says is kinder to the eyes and skin than a chlorine pool. It is fenced and gated to comply with French regulations. There is a generous tiled terrace with a gazebo to offer shelter from the midday sun, and plenty of sun loungers. A really lovely pool to relax or play in.
There is also a large games room that offers table tennis, pool, table football, darts, board games and jigsaws and toys for younger children. Cycling holidays in France are great, and we have a large selection of bikes (about 15) available to our guests (from children's to adult's) and these are stored in the barn. It is not always easy to find bike hire in the midi-pyrennes, and it can be expensive. Our bikes are free for you to use. We also provide maps, puncture repair kits, bike pumps etc. We do not provide helmets, so you might want to bring your own. There is also free use of an excellent and picturesque village tennis court only 2km away.
Barrusclet is a fantastic base for family holidays, and for groups of friends to spend quality time together.

Enquire nowThe Midi-Pyrenees / Gers region
Barrusclet is located about midway between Toulouse and Bordeaux in the Midi-Pyrenees. The Gers region of France is very beautiful and there are lots of interesting medieval villages to visit. Our region is famous for Armagnac and Foie Gras.
There are many vineyards within easy reach where you can drop in for a tasting, and most of the restaurants have local specialities on the menu. The countryside is rolling hills with far reaching views and we are surrounded by sunflower fields and vineyards. The weather is generally quite a bit warmer than the UK, and in the summertime we are always eating outside, and sitting under the stars until late evening.
The Condom / Gondrin area
Barrusclet is situated down a long track off a quiet country road. We are 3km from the village of Gondrin. Here you will find two boulangeries, a small supermarket, tabac, pharmacy, doctors, tourist information etc., everything you need for a self-catering holiday. There is also a small hotel and bar, and the largest outdoor manmade swimming lake in France. This area is great for families, with slides, inflatables, table tennis, tennis courts, children’s play area, and plenty of grassed area for sunbathing and picnics. Gondrin has a small Sunday market selling local fresh produce.
A 2 minute drive, or short cycle ride in the other direction brings us to the tiny hamlet of Lauraet. We hold a key to the immaculate, yet barely used tennis court, which is overlooked by the pretty village church.
Plenty of small villages are within easy reach, and many offer restaurants and bars for you to discover during your stay. Our favourite is the auberge in the lovely village of Fources, a tiny medieval village built in the round, with gorgeous flowers at every window. The plat du jour is 13 euros and includes 3 courses, wine and coffee. This village also hosts a flower festival and regular antique markets.
Another local village is Montreal. It has a lovely square, with bars and restaurants, and hosts a medieval fayre in the Summer. It also has a small bull-fighting arena, where during the summer festival there is a bull-jumping contest. Not really our thing, but we were happy to see that the bulls were not hurt. The larger market town of Vic-Fezensac has a large bull-fighting stadium, where I think it is more serious. Vic-Fezensac also hosts a huge Latino Salsa Festival over one week in the Summer, and a weekly market. Most of the local villages host their own festivals throughout the summer, and these can be great fun with live music, eating and drinking, sporting contests, and firework displays. We have found the people to be very welcoming and there is a great sense of community.
We are also only a few kilometres away from the tiny medieval fortified village of Larressingle. It is a really pretty spot, with a small café/restaurant, and a working museum of medieval weaponry. The pilgrimage road to Santiago de Compostela comes through this area, right past Barrusclet in fact, and the peaceful Abbaye de Flaran is just a short drive away.
The larger towns of Eauze and Condom are 10-15 minutes drive away, and these both offer larger supermarkets, and a greater choice of restaurants and cafes. The river Baise runs through Condom, and river cruises are available.
Our region is famous for Armagnac and Foie Gras. There are many vineyards within easy reach where you can drop in for a tasting, and most of the restaurants have local specialities on the menu.
Other activities within an hours drive include: High Ropes courses, canoe trips, Wallabi World theme park, a great Go-Karting course, a Water Park, paint-balling, and horse riding. The Thermal Spa town of Castera Verduzan, and the Roman Villa at Seviac with its mosaic floors are both close by. Also there are numerous swimming lakes and pools with beaches and slides and play areas. If golf is your thing, there is an 18 hole championship course, Golf de Guinlet , at Eauze, Golf d’Albret at Barbaste, and Golf d’Auch-Embats near Auch. There are other courses in the region but if you are a keen golfer I would recommend that you do your own research so you know exactly what you are getting.
We are approx. 2 hours from the Atlantic coast and The Pyrenees, and approx.3.5 hours from the Mediterranean. Lourdes is within striking distance, as is Marciac and its famous Jazz festival.

| Airport: | Toulouse: 100 km |
| Railway: | Agen: 56 km |
| Ferry: | Santander: 415 km |
There are five main airports within 2 hours drive.
We always use either Bordeaux or Toulouse with Easyjet from Bristol or Luton, or Flybe from Birmingham. Bordeaux and Toulouse are good airports with all the main car hire operators available. The other airports are Pau and Bergerac, and a bit further away is Biarritz. You could also look at Ryanair, BMIBaby, British Airways and Air France for flights.
Use the chunnel or ferry to cross to Calais. By car the drive from Calais is approximately 10 hours.
Obviously this can vary enormously depending on who is driving.
Crossing to St. Malo or Caen reduces the drive time to 6 or 7 hours but increases the time on the Ferry. Also long crossings down to Bilbao and Santander in Spain are an alternative and would leave a drive time of 3 to 4 hours.
