LE FIGUIER is a converted stone barn, which has been tastefully renovated retaining original exposed stone walls and wooden beams throughout. Full of character, the cottage also offers modern conveniences to ensure guests' comfort. Flexible accommodation is provided with 2 bedrooms sleeping up to 5 people, with an additional baby cot available on request. Attractive low season rental rates make the cottage an ideal base for exploring this area of France, or for house-hunting visits in this beautiful area of the Gers known as the 'Golden Triangle'.

Located on the edge of a medieval village, set among rolling countryside with sunflowers and Armagnac vines, Le Figuier offers a great holiday destination for relaxation and an opportunity to sample local French cuisine and way of life. Golf, tennis, horse-riding, bike & canoe hire all nearby and many swimming lakes with sandy beaches. Le Figuier can be booked with neighbouring cottage Le Tilleul for large groups of up to 13 guests + 2 babies in cots.

Attractive low season rental rates make the cottage an ideal base for exploring this area of France, or for house-hunting visits in this beautiful area of the Gers known as the 'Golden Triangle'.

Le Figuier sleeps up to 5 in 2 bedrooms - there are exposed stone walls and beamed ceilings throughout, as well as ceramic tiled floors softened with rugs. A spacious, airy attic bedroom studio has an extra-large wrought iron double bed and a single bed. The room has a high vaulted ceiling and there is a cosy sitting area around the ancient stone fireplace installed with wood burner. A TV / DVD player is provided, with full UK satellite connection and a range of DVDs is provided for guests use with plenty of suitable titles for all ages. Additionally, a large bookcase is well-stocked with books for all ages and interests, as well as board games and jigsaw puzzles for guests' use.

Downstairs the cosy dining kitchen with gas cooker is fully equipped for up to 6 people. Also on the ground floor is the second bedroom with twin beds (which can be set-up as bunks to allow more floor space for young children if preferred). From the kitchen is access to a huge shower-room / WC. A washing machine and large fridge/freezer are located in the adjoining garage.

French windows on either side of kitchen lead to sunny patio with pergola, superb brick-built BBQ & garden beyond, or to the stone-walled courtyard with salt-water swimming pool.

NEW FOR 2013
Le Figuier has been upgraded for winter lets with the latest in ceiling insulation, a new heater in the main studio room in addition to the wood-burner. Also new for 2013, a new radiator/towel warmer in the shower-room helps combat winter chills.

Further details outdoors:
Shared use of a salt-water courtyard swimming pool (8m x 4m). Pool has Roman steps across full-width of shallow making it very toddler-friendly while they gain in confidence in the water. Gradual increasing depth to 1.8m maximum. Range of pool and water toys provided for all ages.

The kitchen door leads directly onto a splendid patio / terrace with pergola over. This is a delightful, private and sheltered spot in which to enjoy breakfast in the morning sun, or a shaded lunch when the sun is high in the sky. In the evening, the brick-built barbecue with chimney over makes cooking the dinner a pleasure while the abundant fig tree (Figuier) completes the setting.

The patio area is fully enclosed making it an ideal, safe and shaded area for young children to play, or a dog if appropriate. At the barbecue end of the patio is a gate leading to the garden beyond which is a level, rough-mown area ideal for games of badminton or boules (equipment provided). At the top of the garden is a gated parking space and the entrance to the castle is literally 50 paces away.

Beyond the patio, there is a private, enclosed garden with patio, BBQ and garden table and chairs for outdoor dining in the shade of the lime tree (tilleul). Open area of level grass with climbing frame with slide and space for playing badminton or boules (equipment provided).

Selection of DVDs available for guests use suitable for all ages. Board games & jigsaw puzzles also for all ages. Plenty of reading material (fiction, non-fiction, travel books and local guides) for both adults and children.

Bed linen and bathroom towels can be provided if required at a reasonable rate. Additional charges for linen/towels are payable locally in euros: bedlinen = 11 euros per person, bathroom towels = 5 euros per person - you will be asked to indicate any requirements when the final balance payment is due. Guests are advised to provide their own pool towels if required.

BABY / TODDLER PACKAGE: for our younger pre-school guests we offer a range of baby and toddler items at no extra charge. These bulky items can be difficult to transport, so we take away the hassle by having them available for you. Currently we can offer the following on request: cots, high chairs, baby bouncer/rocker, table booster seat, baby baths and potty. Just let me know on the booking form which items would be useful for you and I will make sure they are ready for you on arrival. Also available is a range of suitable baby/toddler activity toys and pool toys, as well as age-appropriate DVDs and storybooks ... while you can, why not make the most of not being restricted to peak price school holidays, and take advantage of lower travel and accommodation costs. The weather in the Gers is just as lovely in June/September!

Fully refundable security deposit of £250 is payable at the time of final holiday payment. This will be destroyed following trouble-free check-out (can be returned by post if preferred - please advise).

Pets welcome - up to 2 pets per cottage. Additional cleaning charge of 25 euros per pet is also payable locally.

The Midi-Pyrenees / Gers region

Historic setting just outside the castle walls of the 13th century fortified village of Larressingle in the Gers. The cottages are quietly located, just out of sight of the castle, but with easy access to the bar/creperie within the castle walls, and a nearby restaurant.

The Gascony region of south-west France is still relatively undiscovered by tourists, and so provides the chance to relax and enjoy something of the real France. The surrounding countryside is fields of sunflowers and Armagnac vines. Duck dishes, foie gras and prunes are the local specialities, washed down with Armagnac or the local aperitif 'Pousse Rapiere'! The bustling market town of Condom is only 5km away and offers all amenities and a range of restaurants.

The area abounds with history with its medieval fortified villages at Fourcès, Montréal du Gers, La Romieu, l'Abbaye de Flaran, to name but a few. Colourful weekly market in Condom, as well as at nearby towns of Nérac, Eauze and Lectoure.

PLACES OF INTEREST:
Chateau de Larressingle: on your doorstep, as are the Medieval War Machines with daily hands-on demonstrations. Condom: nearest large town with its Cathedral dominating the town centre. Wide-range of shops and restaurants. Also the Armagnac Museum, and daily boat trips on the River Baise. Ancient villages of historical interest at Montreal (10km), Fources (15km), La Romieu, Flarans. Weekly markets at Condom, Nerac, Eauze and Agen. "Parc Walibi", part of the Six Flags empire is at Roquefort near Agen (30km), smaller than many theme parks, but perfect for a family day out, and tickets are good value for money. Bordeaux and the Bordeaux vineyards eg. St Emilion about 90 minutes drive, a great opportunity to stock your wine cellar.

SWIMMING / RECREATION:
Nearest base de loisirs (leisure park) is at Montréal du Gers (10km), a natural lake, with water slides and a sandy beach. At Gondrin (15km) is a huge man-made outdoor pool, with bumpy slides and corkscrew slides, and a large playground. Further bases de loisirs are at Lislebonne (near Mézin, 10km), Barbotan les Thermes (20km), Lectoure (25km) and more. All good places for a game of boules, badminton, beach volleyball etc. At Condom there is an outdoor public swimming pool, with a full set of diving boards and a grassy area for sunbathing.

SPORTS:
Horse-riding at Escalans (20km), Poudenas (15km) and Les Ecuries d'Armagnac at Valence sur Baise (30km) also offer guided hacks (in English) out into the hills. Tennis - courts available at Condom, Eauze and Gondrin. Golf de Guinlet (18 holes) at Eauze (15km), beautiful, wooded course - said to be the best in the area. Mountain biking: various routes around the area, bike hire at Mézin and other places. Karting, quad bikes, light aircraft all available at Caudecoste (50km).

Easily accessible on low-cost airlines to Pau or Bergerac (flying from Stansted, Gatwick, Luton or Bristol). Also via Air France or British Airways to Toulouse or Bordeaux. TGV line to Bordeaux has daily link to Agen (40km distant).

For those who prefer to drive from the UK, an overnight ferry (7-hour crossing) from Portsmouth to Le Havre gets you in at 8am local time and, on a good day, you could be at the cottage by 6pm including a couple of stops on the way.

“Great place to stay - ideal for extended family” Had a lovely holiday here. I have 3 small children and they were very well provided for. The barn was very comfortable and had everything we needed. I particularly liked the pool which was obviously very popular with the children and had the added reassurance of an alarm in case someone fell into the pool by accident. There was also a lovely garden and we spent several pleasant evenings here having a bbq. We were on holiday with extended family and they were staying in the farmhouse. This was an ideal set up as it meant we could have big get togethers but also had plenty of space. I can't comment much on the surrounding area as my children mainly wanted to stay in the pool. We went horse riding and swam in local lakes which had a variety of slides into them. Overall a very relaxing holiday.

“Time Travel to Relaxation” Lefiguier provides great accommodation in a beautiful part of France. Situated directly outside the Ancient fortified village of Larressingle. Easy access to beautiful medieval towns of Condom, Agen, Auch and Nerac, and more ancient bastides and chateaux than you will ever have time to visit. Great for cycling, walking and river based activities. Wonderful for a late afternoon swim in the shared pool with private access, and for sipping a chilled glass of Floc (local aperitif) while reading a good book.

“A magnificant hideaway..true France” This is property is kept so well. It is very comfotable and the pool fantastic and so clean. It is located in the most stunning part of france surrounded by beautiful countryside. A must visit for any family or couple.

“Beautiful Setting” Set in beautiful surroundings Larressingle is spacious, comfortable and well stocked. It is ideal for a relaxing holiday. The pool is a sun trap. We enjoyed walking, some wildlife, and excellent food at local restaurants. It is ideal for a quiet holiday.

“Lovely French Village Life” We chose the coldest of the 2012 winter to spend 2 months at Le Figuier as may be seen from the snow scenes! Nature's whims aside, we had a lovely stay in a property that is just perfect for two (and a Welsh Terrier). There is a second bedroom but it adapts easily to a long term storage room that can be closed off if not in use. Upstairs in the living/sleeping area there is an enclosed log burner which gives a lovely snuggly feeling for curling up on the sofas with a book. Larressingle is very scenic and quaint; the fortress is visible from Le Figuier and seconds away for an evening stroll with your dog. There are no shops at all in winter so everything has to come from nearby Condom; a car is essential (or maybe a bike for the proficient). There is a convenient car parking space for Le Figuier and the fully enclosed garden is a good size for a Welsh Terrier; maybe even for children too if you have any. We were in Larressingle during the process of buying a house in France but if we didn't have our own now we would certainly revisit Le Figuier. Additionally, the owner, Helen, is overwhelmingly helpful and kind. Nothing is too much trouble.

“You feel like a local here” As a retired couple already living in France we stayed at Le Figuier to try out the winter in the Gers prior to moving to the area. We were delighted with the easy contact with the owner and the discovery of the old typical stone house. It has been converted very well and would be comfortable in summer but, there being no central heating, we struggled to keep warm and had to light the stoves and log fire non-stop practically, which was understandable as the house was not designed for winter living. It has now been insulated in the roof I understand - good for winter and summer. The bathroom was freezing and we had to use the blower heater we found in a cupboard for an immediate hot blow up under the dressing gown! There is a condensation problem and the tiles are often treacherously slippery. The village is tiny, on a hill and isolated in the countryside but good access to Condom where there is a cyber café. Also a Michelin starred restaurant in an old chapel. Charming town centre. We were privileged to be there out of the holiday season and it was quiet and rural. The larger cottage for rent next door is more quirky and the joint pool tight between the two places could be noisy if the renters in the other don't happen to suit you. But each place has its own garden on the other side, Le Figuier's facing south. We were there for about 6 weeks and were sorry to leave just as the weather was getting pleasant!

“Beautiful Location” Stopped here with my familly august 2010. The small village is extremely picturesque , built around an ancient fortified church.The house itself is one of a pair of buildings that have bean tastefully renovated. This is the smaller one of the two but more than spacious enough for a small familly with large gardens attached. the house is very clean and well maintained. The shared pool is a good size with plenty of toys for the children. the outside patio was great for BBQ's and there were various events taking place in the fortified village. Two restaurants on hand, one a crepiery with the fortified building and a larger Auberge type restaurant a few hundred yards away. the only downside was the fig tree, which the house is named after. This is totally full of figs in august which attract swarms of Flies as the ripe fruit falls constantly. If the tree was given a good pruning and kept clear of the house this would just finish the location and stay off to perfection. Overall I would recommend this as a great place to stop. You must sample the armagnac from the local area. it is to die for.

“Great location, very comfortable and the kids loved it!” Great location. 50 yards away from a World Heritage site - Larressingle medeival fortified village. The shared pool works fine, and is clean and safe - the kids were hardly our of it for the whole holiday. This was our fourth holiday in this pair of gites - and we'll be back. Service is excellent - Anne knows all the local tips and tricks - and recommended some great vineyards and restaurants. The supermarkets of Eauze and Condom are only a few minutes away - and there's a creperie and a super auberge in the village. The gite is comfie and well equipped - and everything works! For a mid-price gite holiday in fantastic Gascony, we haven't found a better place. Seriously recommended.

“Delightful gite in a stunning village in the department which is France's best kept secret.” As a last minute booking, we could not have been more delighted when we arrived in the stunning little village of Laressingle and opened the shutters on this delightully situated gite. The cottage itself has been renovated extremely tastefully and was very comfortable. The shady garden was delightful in the hot afternoon and the fireplace very cosy in the still chilly spring evenings. In summer, I am sure the swimming pool would be an extra delight. It was really nice to just wander out of the garden with our dogs and into the beautiful countryside of the Gers, or down to the local Auberge or Creperie in the evening. It was so quiet and the dawn chorus was something to be heard. We even heard nightingales for the first time - magical! We didn't want to leave, and in fact extended our stay. Helen and her local gite manager could not have been more pleasant and helpful. We can't wait to go back!

“a perfect and peaceful get away from it all holiday home” Larressingle is a beautiful village perched on a hill where the castle can be seen clearly before you get to the village. The rolling countryside in my opinion is breathtaking and on a good day the pyrenees mountains can be seen. The gite is adequate for four people and the courtyard/terrace is both safe and secure if you are thinking of taking your pet. The larger than average kingsized bed in the studio was extremely comfortable. I can highly recommend the cherries from the tree in the garden but sadly too soon to sample the figs. I loved the creperie within the castle walls where both myself and husband sampled the very moreish armagnac. The only downside was an early morning stroll to a boulangerie, because sadly Larressingle does not have one, closest being Condom which I hasten to add is just five minutes drive away, nonetheless it didnt spoil a thing. We will definately be returning next year to Le Figuier, sooner if at all possible. If I was to make any suggestions for future improvement it would be a dishwasher and internet access.
