The Brittany region

A blend of coastline and woodland in blue and green colours, 'Trévignon's point' is a peninsula surrounded by the blue sea. Concarneau, 10mns drive away, is a buzzing fishing port with a fortified town 'la Ville close' where you can have a lazy walk along craft shops or stop for a 'crepe' and cider or home-made ice cream.

The elegant cathedral town of Quimper crossed by the Odet river has a 'medieval' feel and also has a very good pedestrian shopping area.

Concarneau

Daily you can buy fresh fish/seafood at Trévignon port and taste delicious pancakes at 'La Marinière' overlooking Trévignon port. Don't miss 'Les Balnéides' water park in Fouesnant, the kiddy's beach club in Trévignon and 'Kersimonou' leisure parc in Concarneau.

Boat trips :'Odet river' and the 'Glénan islands' At the 'Fête des Filets bleus' in Concarneau in August, you will see an impressive procession in traditional Breton local costume and music.

Trévignon: There is an organic market on Sunday mornings.

"Basic house in quiet location with nice south facing garden"

An unusual house built with the front door at the back and with the three patio doors leading onto the south facing front garden. You can sit on the patio in the sun all day long. All the accommodation is downstairs. Upstairs is empty and locked up apart from a second toilet, but you can store your empty suitcases on the landing out of the way. Apart from the two bedrooms and bathroom (with toilet, bath, shower and bidet) downstairs everything else is open plan and of good size for four people. It is well equipped and it was nice that things like washing up liquid, bin liners and liquid soap on the basins was supplied.
The bedrooms are quite small, one with a regular size double and the other with twin beds. There is a built in wardrobe in each plus a bedside table but that is all. There is a washing machine and a good supply of logs in the huge garage in the basement. Logs can be burnt in the large open fireplace during those cooler evenings, although because of the south facing aspect it was quite warm in September and we had no need for additional heating. If you do require to use the electric central heating it is charged separately during the off peak season.
The house is located in a very quiet area but is actually 2km from the beach at Trevignon by car. We always took the car to the beach, but in fact drove about 5km to end up further west from Trevignon where the beaches were more secluded and where we could take the dog. In theory dogs are banned from all beaches in the area but the locals and ourselves had no problem ignoring the rules. Car parking is free for all the local beaches and many of them were extremely quiet at this time of year. Pont Aven and Concarneau are close by and Tregunc with its Casino supermarket is 10 minutes by car. There are plenty of other supermarkets in the area, particularly Intermarches that also sell cheap petrol. The free wifi in the Tregunc tourist office was very useful as there is no wifi connection in the house.
Colette Le Deun who is the agent for the house was very pleasant and helpful. We were able to pay for the house using the secure credit card facility on her web site.
