About the home

A superbly restored and decorated longere, in a small farming hamlet, adjacent to the owner's home. Only 3k from the quiet coastline around Tregunc, where there are sandy bays, coastal walks and sleepy towns; the best known of which is Pont Aven, famous for its connections with artists both today and in the past, such as Gauguin.

The Brittany / Finistere region

The cottage is nestled in a hamlet of a few houses in the countryside 3k from the centre of Tregunc, a delightful farming town with good local shops and services. The small port of Trevignon with local sandy beaches is 4k away. Concarneau, with its remarkable walled city, is 10k, and has a great choice of restaurants and shops. There is a fine sandy beach about five minutes drive at Cabellou, which has a beach club for children. This is a great area for cycling and we can arrange bike hire through our local agent. There are many activities in the area: water sports, boat hire, canoeing, boat trips on the River Odet and out to the Iles Glénans. There is a large indoor water park, Les Balnéides, at Fouesnant. The property is about 15k from Pont Aven, famous for its artists, 15k from the chic resort of Benodet and 20k from Quimper, a beautiful cultural city.

The Concarneau / Tregunc area

In architecture, its busy fishing village and its wave-swept corniche help to make Concarneau one of the loveliest towns on the coast of Brittany. It is situated in one of the most sheltered bays on the Atlantic coast, and is now the third largest French fishing port for fresh fish and the largest of all for tuna from the tropics, including all the related industries, especially canning. The Halle a Maree, in which the fish auction and market are held, is enormous, covering a surface of 150,700 sq. ft.

The fortified city - this little walled city was built in the 14thC and it can only be reached by a drawbridge. The city itself is a gem, with its cobbled streets and tiny squares, which seem to have been forgotten by time. The ramparts can be visited (10.00a.m. - 7.30p.m. in summer; admission charge).
