Home description

This Spanish town villa has been sympathetically restored over the last two years to give you a characterful holiday home. It is also just a five minute stroll from the local Hotel swimming pool and brand new village pool with retractable sun roof, shops and restraurants.
From the large (45 square metre) roof terrace, your views over the white village, mountains, church tower and the Mediterranean sea are superb. Benefitting from the sun all day, many guests have said the roof terrace is the "jewel in the crown". Great also for alfresco eating day and night., with gas BBQ and outdoor kitchen There is plenty of shade from the hot Spanish sun if desired. A swing seat, splash pool, sun loungers, dining table and chairs are all provided on the roof terrace.

Inside there are two lounge areas, one for reading, relaxing and chatting, and another off the dining area for watching DVD/video etc. This is beside the large, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, mircowave, gas oven and hob etc. Competa has a great selection of restaurants and shops all within an easy walk from your centrally located villa.

The Costa del Sol/Malaga region

The Costa del Sol beaches are a 25 minute scenic drive away. Torre del Mar and Torrox Costa have beautiful promenades with large beaches and the associated restaurants and bars. The area surrounding Nerja has rocky coves, Naturist swimming, caves and beautiful cliffs. Walking in the surrounding National Park is a deeply relaxing experience, and in the house we have a guide book with many walks for your use. We can also organise a local guide who is English and speaks Spanish for you if you wish.

Why not have a day trip to Granada and visit the Alhambra…. Inspiration for our kitchen floor!, or visit the caves at Nerja, or go to the Picasso museum in Malaga. The ports of Torrox and Veleta have an excellent array of big sailing boats equalling that of Puerto Banus! At Velez Malaga you can play golf at the Bavaria golf course, or go shopping in the El Ingenio store complex… a great morning out for the girls in the party.

Competa area

Competa itself, is a wondrous place to explore, the white buildings, small narrow twisting streets and beautiful pot plants all combine to form a glorious jumble of colour. With over 35 bars and restaurants…. 20 of which are within a 10 minute walk from the house!! We feel you will not want to cook every night. Supermarkets, banks, estate agents and internet café all help to make life more sophisticated and easy in this mountain village. The central square, Plaza Almijara with its church and unusual tower, is only 2 minutes walk from the house and is the heart of the village’s social life. It is here that the annual wine festival takes place…. Starting at midnight on the 15th August each year…. The Noche del Vino should not be missed.

Competa itself is a wondrous place to explore. Many local poets and artists live here and give the village that bohemian feel, which is hard to find in other villages. With over 35 tapas bars and restaurants you will find it difficult to experience them all in one visit... more's the pity!

Excellent walking is to be found just outside the village in the surrounding National Park and the local Hotel Balcon has a large swimming pool which can be accessed for a 5euro day ticket. The village also has just built a large pool with retractable sun roof and fantastic views over the surrounding areas down to the sea. Down on the coast you have Golf just 35 minutes away, beaches, Aqua park and great shopping in the Eroski commercial centre just off the motorway at Velez Malaga.

How to get there

Fly to Malaga Airport ... code AGP. We recommend Crown Car Hire easily found in the Airport Building.
Take bus to Malaga central. Buses depart for Competa from here. Very reasonable prices.


Take the motorway from Malaga airport direction Almeria.
Come off where signposted to Algarrobo.

Go up the hill towards Sayalonga.
Go through Sayalonga to Competa.

After the official village welcoming sign in Competa, take the right fork up a steep hill. This is after the garage on the left around a right hand bend. At the top of the hill there is a large carpark on the left.

Park here and walk to the house just off the central square.
