Further details indoors:
Villa La Perla is decorated in traditional Spanish style with high ceilings, wooden beams, terracotta floors and archways that display a rustic charm that is perfectly suited to its surroundings. Two modern bathrooms have just been refurbished. Every room has a view and the villa is so well equipped, you literally need only pack your toothbrush!
Further details outdoors:
Open the electric gates onto this spectacular property and there is plenty of room for parking around a centre circle dominated by a massive acacia tree. The villa's arched terrace, which overlooks the valley below, is the perfect place to dine al fresco. Set in 2000 square metres, the villa is separate from the 7m private pool, which has its own sunbathing area, outdoor shower and vine-covered terrace. A walled courtyard at one end of the villa boasts a built-in barbecue and orange trees -- while at the far end of the property is a Mediterranean garden planted with almond, fig, carob and mimosa trees. A path leads you to the end of this garden, where a bench is the perfect place to view the valley below, the sea and, on a clear day, the Rif mountains of North Africa.

Enquire nowThe Andalucia / Malaga Province region
Villa La Perla is in the Andalucian region to the East of Malaga known as Axarquia (the Land to the East).
With its sub-tropical temperatures, Axarquia is known for having the best climate in Europe and because it's warm and sunny all year round, it's not just a summer resort.
Axarquia boasts spectacular unspoiled countryside with the hill and mountain scenery ablaze with flowers and blossom from January onwards. The white villages of Andalucia have remained unchanged for centuries and are of Arab origin with narrow winding streets.
All this and the famous Costa del Sol beaches are just half an hour away.
The Competa area
Villa La Perla is named after the beautiful whitewashed village of Cómpeta, which is known as "La Perla de La Axarquia" (The Pearl of Axarquia).
A 16th-century church dominates the main square -- and there are spectacular views of sea, countryside and mountains from its flower-bedecked streets and plazas. Competa is still an active agricultural town with abundant crops of olives, almonds, grapes, raisins, figs and, above all, Vino de Cómpeta, which is renowned worldwide. The town has a varied selection of bars and restaurants, shops, banks, and a Saturday market.
The villa is also within comfortable walking distance of the picturesque villages of Canillas de Albaida and Archez.

La Perla is a beautiful villa set in the hills of Competa, a lovely village with great restaurants and traditional Spanish charm. The villa itself is beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable, and with everything you need to make your stay an enjoyable one. Very private and not overlooked at all, it's a fantastic place to sit and while away a few hours in the sun with a bottle of wine and a good book. The views over the mountains are suberb, as are the beautiful gardens with their many fruit trees - lemons, limes, avocados, almonds, olives, oranges, figs, to name a few. Here you get the best of both worlds, you're away from the throng and can go days without seeing a soul if you want to, but you have the village just a short walk away and then the beach at Nerja just a twenty minute or so drive down the mountain. If you want a relaxing holiday with beautiful scenery and traditional whitewashed Spanish village charm then La Perla is for you. I should know, I'll be visiting for the fourth time this summer! |

Frankly, I'm rather loath to write such a glowing review of La Perla as it may mean it will be more difficult for me to book my next stay there. But it only seems fair as the owners were so helpful and informative both before and during our stay. The villa is wonderfully kept and comfortably furnished with some fantastic pieces of furniture added that add the sense of being in a traditional Andalucian villa. The pool is private, not overlooked and surrounded by beautifully sweet smelling flowers - I'm afraid I have no idea on the type. The kitchen is big and well appointed with plenty of pots and pans, a big fridge and a good number if Spanish cook books for the adventurous. Outside there is a charcoal BBQ surrounded by lemon trees (or possibly orange). Outside the lounge is a big table sheltered by leaves and flowers (again who knows) where an evening is most pleasantly spent with some local wine, food and views across the valley. For us, the distance from the village of Cómpeta was a great advantage. About ten minutes walk, we were outside in the peace and quiet but it was no bother at all to pop in for supplies or just a walk around and a quick coffee stop. It is a lovely place for a stroll although being on the side of a mountain, there are some steep streets and a few steps which would make it a little difficult if one has mobility problems. The village also has a number of good places to eat and drink. Although I enjoyed practicing my Spanish there, many do speak English so a lack of Spanish is not an issue. Finally, I can't recommend this place highly enough but please, for my sake, wait until I've booked my next holiday there. |
