Competa gives you the best of both worlds peacefull but not too isolated,only 20 min drive to the uncrowded beaches of torrox costa, the popular resort of nerja is only 20km away and for keen golfers 2 new courses only a short drive away and for skiing the sierra nevadas is only a 2 hr drive.there is also an abundance of trails for keen walkers.

The Andalucia / Malaga Province region
It is easy to understand why Malaga City is dubbed the Capital of the Costa del Sol. Whereas it was once considered to be the poor cousin of Andalusia’s capital city, Seville, it now competes successfully for attention. Since the opening of the already well acclaimed Picasso Museum in 2003, cultural tourists have been flocking to this and the now beautifully refurbished birthplace of the great artist, all in the heart of the historic centre of the city.
As well as homage to the great Picasso, other great historic monuments include the imposing Baroque Cathedral, popularly known as ‘La Manquita’ (One Armed Woman), referring to its rather lopsided appearance due to the missing east bell tower. High on the hill above the city is the Parador (state run hotel) of great historic importance. It was once a Moorish castle and is a wonderful place to either stay the night or have a long lunch enjoying these privileged surroundings with panoramic views over Malaga city and out across the port to sea.
Although there was much destruction in Malaga, especially during the time of the Spanish Civil War, there is still plenty of proof of the Moorish occupation. Today you can visit the Moorish Alcazaba fortress, dating back to 1065, which also now features a very interesting archaeological museum.
There are also many churches in and around the centre, of great architectural and historic interest well worth visiting.
The Competa area
Nestling at the foot of the Sierra Tejeda and Almijara mountain ranges and situated some 50 km from the city of Málaga, the white village of Cómpeta appears with the unmistakeable fragrance of the muscatel grape, its old houses with traces of Moorish, Roman and Christian times and its new houses which are home to those who come in search of the sun.
In 1487, the year in which the name of Cómpeta appears for the first time in an official document, the old village had only 600 inhabitants. The only remaining relics of those times are stories and legends, together with the smell of rosemary.
Today this village in the interior of La Axarquía has a stable population of 3.500 inhabitants of which approximately 1.500 come from different parts of the world. It is no coincidence that the name Cómpeta means “crossroads” or “meeting point”. It is very much a place of rest among the earthly paradise that springs forth from the countryside. It is a coming together of races and tongues, customs and travellers which has not lost its Andalusian essence.
The traditional agricultural activities (the cultivation of vines, almonds and olives) have been joined by the real estate explosion of today and the subsequent growth of complementary services.
Sparkling evenings, peaceful nights, strolls, good cuisine and regional products make Cómpeta an option of which you must not fail to take advantage. It is certain that you will have no regrets and will want to return. Once you delight in the colour of the countryside and see the sea in the distance, you will understand that it is not necessary to dream – here, reality is the best dream of all.

Leave malaga airport and head for the E 15 heighway towards motril ,follow for 50km then pulll off the heighway sign posted algarrobo ,at the roundabout go back under the heighway follow the sign for competa up the hill for 15km to the picturesque village of competa.

casa tranquilo, more like casa terrifico! pool a life saver in the very hot days and so much fun.the villa is so well equipped even has sky if you want to listen to soap themes while watching the fantastic spanish sunsets with a bottle of wine will recommend to all our friends..thank you! david ,sue cloe,ann lucy(from harden, bradford)

Hello Kevin & Louise,
We had a wonderful stay in Casa Tranquilo ! It was for the 4th time we were in Competa for holiday, and everytime we are so happy to come there …..
It is really a well equipped villa with a lot of comfort. Also about the cleaning in and around the villa we’re very happy, also the pool.
Pete is a very kind man, I think you may be happy to find a man like him who takes care about everything…
I have to tell you something : when we came home, I wondered to find your corkscrew in my luggage. I also took one with me to Competa, and I wondered I had 2 of them when I came home, it was not my intention to take it with me…. Sorry for that.
At the other side we bought a big pot in a shop in Competa (to cook spaghetti for 7) and he was to big to bring with me at home, so you have now a big pot more in your kitchen
