The Andalucia region
Competa is a typically Spanish Village which makes it special to us. Although many people speak English we find it fun trying to make our Spanish understood and it's amazing how quickly you can understand the language.
If you want, friendly, peaceful and away from the bustle of "Tea like mother makes" or "fish and Chips" then this is the holiday for you, walking, cycling, a cup of coffee whilst watching the world go by, maybe catching up on your e mails with Free WiFi in the town square (although we have avoided putting it in the house, as we feel you should "get away" from the stress of the normal) your on holiday after all!.
Malaga is an hours drive, there are many things to see in the old part of town, along with shops, restuarants etc., A trip to Ronda is a must, the amazing bridge and the gorge are a definate "not to miss". Seville and Cordoba should also be on your list, although it would possibly mean an overnight stay.
Nerja and the different beaches are 30 mins away, we love this place if it's a beach day, thank goodness there are Wc's along the beach area, it may not be the first thing that comes to your mind when thinking "beach" but with kiddies it's essential, (take your own paper though)! We have a cool bag/flask/containers, and a sun umbrella for you to take to the beach, please bring them all back though.
Torre Del Mar is another big beach area along with shops, the market is on a Thursday and is very good, Competa has a small market in the lower square on Saturday mornings where you can buy enormous cauliflowers, carrots, peppers, everything you will need but in EXTRA sizes, it never fails to amaze me how large everything is!
In spring the wild flowers are beautiful along with the almond, orange and lemon trees. In November/December the days are still beautiful and warm and the nights chilly, but we have a wonderful log fire in the lounge and also underfloor heating, you will see the Olives being picked for Olive oil and also for preserving, they taste awful straight from the tree, you have been warned!
Each season brings it's own charm to the area, whether it's snow capped mountains in the distance or evenings with the sun still shining at 9.30 pm and your still in the pool, it's an amazing place with lots to see and visit or just chill. Festivals are the norm in all the surrounding villages, join in the fun but be prepared to start at 10pm at night, sleep during the day.
Rolling hills, massive mountains, National parks, goat herds with distant bells clanging, bees buzzing, the odd cloud, distant sound of a cockerel and small birds singing, larks swooping, sound of laughter and children, odd dog barking, water lapping up the pool, sold it to you yet?

Stayed here 2 years ago when the villa was first being rented and my husband and I loved it. Clean, spacious and the views are breath taking. Waking up above the clouds is something you need to see for yourself. You do need a car but it is a perfect getaway spot. This is true spain. Enjoyed ourselves so much we are going back in 3 weeks so can't wait.
Hi Emily, so glad you enjoyed your stay, I'm sure your going to love the renovations that have happened since your last visit. Enjoy your holiday and thank you for your lovely review. Lynn and Mick
