Just one hour from Malaga airport you can enjoy choosing between traditional Spain and the coast, by renting a spacious country villa near the archetypal white hilltop town of Competa - 15 minutes from the coast near Nerja. Villa Carlota has its own private pool, eight by four meters, and sun terraces, all set in mature Mediterranean gardens overlooking the mountains. The panoramic views of the Almijara Sierra Nature Park and the Torrox valley descending to the Mediterranean are breathtaking.
The Villa is secluded without being isolated at an entrance to the Nature Park. As it is only 300 meters from the Torrox/Competa road, there is no driving for miles over rough tracks so common in the area. Villa Carlota accommodates eight people in two double, one twin and one twin with bunk beds. The villa has two reception rooms, air conditioning in the main rooms and two modern bathrooms. Features are made of the two sun terraces, (one with a fountain and one with a BBQ) both set in mature Mediterranean gardens. The "Via" satelite TV picks up a range of international channels

The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
The Villa is situated at one of the entrances to the Sierra Almijara Nature Park. It is close to dramatic scenary and is seculded without being isolated, as the Torrox - Competa road to the coast is only 300 meters from the property. This means that there is no driving for miles over dirt tracks so common in the area. The property is surrounded by mature gardens as well as olive groves, vines and avocados.
There are two professional golf courses within a short driving distance. One of the best kept secrets is the all year round climate. This most southerly part of Spain between the mountains and the sea, is said to have the best climate in Europe. It is possible, for example, to sit on the beach enjoying the sun in Winter (perhaps after golf at the new 18 hole course at nearby Algarrobo) and three hours later you can be in deep snow at the ski resort in the Sierra Nevada - Sol y Nieve with ski runs up to 3,000 metres.
Competa area
There is a local bar and restraurant within walking distance of the Villa. The local towns of Competa and Torrox are still intrinsically Spanish in culture and bursting with local life. In all the surrounding small "white towns"there are bars and restraurants as well as fiestas every week in summer. Nerja and the coast have a wide selection of activities from water sports to night life. The whole area is rich in the heritage of the Moors, especially the nearby cities of Sevilla, Granada, Cadiz and Cordoba accessible by one of the best and most modern auto routes in Europe.
Apart from relaxing by the pool or on the beach, the more energetic might enjoy some of the following activities. all within a few miles of the Villa: *Walking and Hiking - From right outside the Villa, there are many tracks leading into the nature park and into the Sierra Almijara. The local shops sell detailed walking guides. *Horse Riding - There are a number of stables within a few minutes of the Villa for both beginners and experienced riders. They will take the more adventurous right into the mountains for a really unforgettable experience *Four wheel drive/Quad Bikes - You can hire both and either be independent or take a guided tour of the mountain trails. *Golf - Bavaria golf is just 30 minutes - see below for details of the course. *Aqua Park - Is just 35 minutes away across from the Euroski main shopping centre. *Beaches – Spoilt for choice, from the quiet bays below the moiuntains East of Nerja to the wide sandy beaches of Nerja and Torrox Costa. *Sailing/boating at La Caleta marina near Torre del Mar *Ski-ing - at the ski resort in the Sierra Nevada - Sol y Nieve with ski runs up to 3,000 metres
Golfers can combine a golfing holiday with beach, mountains and the historic cities or Andulacia. The Costa del Sol exceeds in the selection of courses available to beginners and professionals. The nearest course is 25 minutes from the Villa. Baviera Golf Club is an 18 hole, 6100 yard, par 71 course, with driving range. The course is laid out around gardens and lakes, with views towards both the Sierra and the sea. Nearer to Malaga is the Anoreta Golf Club, another Canizares designed course. This 18 hole, 6538 yard, par 71course sets a slightly more difficult challenge due to water hazards being featured on 11 of the 18 holes, but still makes for an enjoyable game.
One of the best-kept secrets is the winter climate. This most southerly part of Spain, between the mountains and the sea, is said to have the best climate in Europe with 320 days of sunshine. This is the perfect time for walkers to explore the nature park alongside the Villa and return to drinks around the stove. The area in winter is a unique combination of indoor and outdoor living. If you are keen on sport, it is possible to sit on the beach or around the pool, enjoying the sun in Winter and three hours later you can be in deep snow at the ski resort in the Sierra Nevada - Sol y Nieve with ski runs up to 3,000 metres.
How to get there
Villa Carlota is just one hour from Malaga airport as a result of the new costal motorway. The Villa is situated in the hills between the coast at Nerja and the historic mountain town of Competa: It is 10 kms to the coast and four kms to Competa with all its restaurants, bars and small supermarkets. Being the costal side of Competa and at an entrance to the Sierra Almijara nature park, the Villa is perfect for walking in the mountains or lazing on the beach. As the Villa is only 300 metres from the Torrox - Competa road, you do not have to drive for miles over rough tracks, a common problem in this area. The South-facing Villa has 270 degree views of the mountains and the Torrox river valley to the East, South and West.

There is a further terrace for the evening sun equipped with a free-standing, chimney BBQ.
The private pool measuring 8 by 4 metres is set below the Villa. It is surrounded by mature gardens giving dramatic views of the mountains. The terraces and pool areas feature bougainvillea, oleander and figs cascading down the mountainside to olive groves owned by the property.

The Villa is perfect for enjoying the beaches, the local small white towns, the excellent value of the local restaurants, visits to the historic cites of Andalusia, walking in the mountains directly from the Villa, or just relaxing by the pool. There is a convenient local bar and restaurant within a short walking distance and the Villa is four km. from the famous old Moorish town of Competa. The town is still intrinsically Spanish in culture, bustling with local life, restaurants, bars, market and small supermarkets. The coast near Nerja is 15 minutes away. As it is here that the Sierra Almijara meets the sea, there are long sandy beaches as well as small rocky coves. The cost here has still managed to retain much of its character and charm, compared to so much of the Costa del Sol. Children's activities range from riding in the hills to water sports, water parks and buggy racing on the coast. Further afield are the Moorish cities of Granada, Sevilla and Cordoba all accessible by the new motorway network - one of the best in Europe: And of course there is always Gibraltar and Morocco
Conditions
A 33% deposit to reserve the property. The balance is due eight weeks prior to departure together with a security deposit of £100. (£150 for singles) A full information pack on the house and the area will be provided. Local support is provided by a professional maintenance company: They provide clean bed linen every Saturday. Additional maid service can be provided if requested in advance. All bed linen & towels are provided (except for cot linen). There is an additional charge of 35 Euros for the second week's laundry. Please bring your own beach/pool towels. Occasional care-taking visits may be made during your stay to clean the pool and maintain the gardens. Pool cleaning is normally done early in the morning for your own convenience and with minimum intrusion to your privacy.

Prices are all inclusive of cleaning, laundry and utilities. The change-over day is normally Saturday in peak season, but is flexible in off-peak periods - please enquire. To reserve the property a deposit of 33% is required. The balance is due 8 weeks prior to departure together with a refundable security deposit of £100 (£150 for singles) This is refunded after inspection and return of keys. Payments are normally by cheque or transfer and receipts will be sent for all payments.

We have been meaning to e-mail you since we got back from your lovely villa a couple of weeks ago. We had a fabulous time. The villa was perfect and the pool was wonderful. We had lovely days out - beach, caves etc and the villa was always such a lovely place to come home to at the end of a hot day and to cool off in the pool was the best. I think it was the loveliest villa in the area. Some of those other villas had death defying driveways, no way could we have driven to them.
