"Comfortable accommodations, tremendous views, marvellous sleep."
My spouse and I went to Casa Rey for a week's stay without a car, which worked very well for us. We took the bus there and back to Malaga. The location of the apt., approximately 2Km from the centre of Competa, was great for the three beautiful walks we did right from the front door. Our hosts, Alick and Debbie provided detailed written instructions for these walks which was a bonus. We were also blessed with warm, sunny days.
The apartment was very cosy and well laid out with a full kitchen (very sharp knife included) for preparing meals, which we did after buying groceries in town. The only missing ingredient was a freezer, so no ice cream. But that was ok as ice cream was available in town. The bed was very comfortable with a wonderful warm duvet and wi-fi worked perfectly throughout our stay.
Lack of a car did not diminish our enjoyment of the week of clear, fresh air, friendly and helpful hosts and lots of exercise. We hope to return for another stay at Casa Rey in the near future.

"Fabulous apartment, location and people"
At the risk of sounding like all the other reviewers - Wow.
We spent a wonderful 10 days at Casa Rey and would totally recommend it to anyone, just be mindful of the location if you have mobility issues or don't have a head for heights!
Alick and Debbie and their two lovely dogs Maddie and Timmie have created a very special place. The apartment has everything you need and is so cosy and relaxing. Outside the pool area is exactly how you see it in the photos - there aren't too many places where you can sit next to a pool, with views straight down a valley to the sea....and where there are, you pay an arm and a leg for the privilege!
The location is spot on. You are 5 mins by car or 25/30 mins walk into Competa where you will find a range of excellent restaurants, shops, cafe's, bars, supermarkets, fishmongers and bakers and, of course, Alick and Debbie's shop. It is about 30 mins down to the coast and a selection of towns and beaches - try the sardines on the beach at the east end of Torre del Mar beach cooked over a bbq set in a boat! Just up and over the mountain above Casa Rey is the Sierra de Almijara mountain range, slightly off the beaten track but worth the drive - stunning views from the Puerto del Gollado at around 3,000 feet but only a 15-20 min drive or 3-4 hour walk.
We ate at El Pilon twice, excellent food and drink, friendly staff - special mention to Tom - good views (amazing sunset on our second night) and delicious honey rum! Also ate at La Taberna de Oscar - good food and lovely location just off main square.
In summary - well enough to say we are going back next June and the next year etc etc. Do yourself a favour and just do it!

"Stunning views & welcoming owners"
Our visit to Casa Rey was nothing short of excellent. Its in a fantastic location with beautiful views all round. The owners Debbie & Alick are extremely friendly and helpful and are always on hand to offer any local knowledge of the area if need be. The apartment itself is very clean and included everything that we required for our ten day visit with a laundry service available too. The property matched the listing as described on owners direct. WiFi access was available in the apartment too.The best part of the holiday was having the swimming pool on our doorstep and was always for our use from the hours of 9am to 7pm. A car was definitely essential for our stay and is highly recommended for anyone wishing to stay. The directions supplied to us from Debbie & Alick to get from the airport to the apartment were great and took roughly an hour. The village of Competa is lovely and has all the amenities from Restaurants to a supermarket.

"Lovely property with splendid views down to the Mediterranean"
We stayed at Casa Rey in April 2012 for a week, arriving late on Easter Sunday. The owners, Debbie and Alick were very speedy and efficient in their email correspondence, and we had our booking confirmed the same day we sent off our initial enquiry email.
We asked if Alick and Debbie could organise us a few provisions for our arrival due to our late arrival time, and they were more than happy to do this for us. Alick and Debbie run the local newsagents in Competa and have a good knowledge of what there is do and see in the area. On our last night they kindly made us a reservation and El Pilon in Competa for a superb meal and we enjoyed an evening of good food and Flamenco guitar music.
Casa Rey is clean, light, and airy and has everything you could need. The directions provided were excellent and proved easy to follow. There is a very comprehensive and well written information pack with maps of local towns and walks from Casa Rey. We spent a lot of time sitting out enjoying the splendid views down the valley to the sea, watching the birds from the terrace. Beeaters, Serin, Sardinian Warbler, Blue rock thrush, and Booted and Short-toed eagles were just a few of the highlights easily seen from Casa Rey that are typical of the area.
It was also nice to make friends with Timi and Maddie the spaniels, who were as welcoming and friendly as Alick and Debbie.
Casa Rey was just what we needed to get away from the Scottish weather for a relaxing break in a fantastic property, set in stunning scenery.

"Excellent views, lovely hosts"
Stayed at Casa Rey in December during my visit to Competa, I must stay that this apartment was in excellent condition and nicely decorated. It is fully equipped. The location is quite and peaceful and there are wonderful views from the apartment out over the valley towards the sea. The area is suitable for people who like the outdoors as there are several walks just from the house alone. The owners give you use of the pool in the summer months and it is in a lovely setting. My hosts Debbie and Alick were extreamly helpful and even picked me up at Malaga airport as the were leaving off an friend at the same time of my arrival.
The village of Competa is 20 minutes walk and is a really nice spanish village, not very expensive at all, lots of nice tapas bars, cafes, etc to eat in. It is a quaint village set in the spanish mountains and all less than 30 mins from the coast. I would recommend this property to any one who wants a nice getaway. The price of the apartment is reasonable.

"A wonderful, restfull holiday."
Great location with stunning scenery. The nearby village of Competa has several excellent restaurants selling traditional Spanish food. The village has not been spoilt by development. Alternatively there is a well equiped kitchen if you prefer to cook and enjoy a quiet meal, with a good bottle of wine while enjoying the panoramic views. The coastal village of Nerja is approximately 40 minutes drive is well worth a visit.
Debbie and Allick made us feel very welcome and having Maddy and Timmy, their Spaniels, as companions was an absolute bonus.

"Would love to wake up that view everyday!"
My boyfriend and I stayed there for one week in August. It really is a lovely apartment in a lovely location if you're looking for a chilled out holiday. The instructions that Debbie and Alick gave us were spot on so we were able to get there easily from the airport. The apartment itself has everything you need for your stay, from bath towels to kitchen equipment. We had our own dining terrace and it meant that we could sit out and enjoy the sunset every evening while enjoying our dinner. The pool area is excellent, just what you need in the sun when it's hot and it was free everyday for us to use; we never felt that we were encroaching on Debbie and Alick's living area.
Competa itself is a traditional spanish village with loads of windy roads and little restaurants with terraces overlooking the view. Debbie and Alick were able to give us loads of information on the local area and booked us into a restaurant on the last night for us which was really helpful. Their shop is in the centre of the village so we were able to pop in during the day. There is a supermarket in the centre of Competa where you can get everything you need, we found however we preferred the smalled shop just opposite Alick and Debbie's shop near the main car park.
The only thing I would say is to not get lost in the centre of Competa in a hire car; we took ours down a windy street and got stuck and scratched the car! On an evening if we were to go into Competa we either walked which took around 30minutes or drove half the way and walked the rest of the way then got a taxi back.
The whole holiday was so relaxing and very chilled out, if that is what you're looking for then Casa Rey is perfect!
