Villa Esparragueras is conveniently located by tarmac road (no dirt tracks). Just a ten minute drive from the picturesque “white”village of Competa: a traditional Spanish village (the real Spain) with a good selection of first class restaurants, tapas bars, super-markets and not forgetting the weekly market. The villa is extremely private, with trees and or wall/balustrade around it. No one overlooks. For anxious parents, the pool is directly in front of the villa, so you will be able to keep an eye on the children at all times. The villa and the terraces are on one level. The pool has safe roman styled steps down, Ideal for the timid to sit and dip ones toes.

The Costa del Sol/Malaga region

With it's all year round climate the Costa del sol needs no introduction for the holiday maker, except to say there's more to Spain than 'kiss-me-quick' hats. Torre del Mar for instance is one of the main touristic resorts of the Costa del Sol for the Spanish.

The town is well known for its four kilometres of wide sandy beaches flanked by a long beachfront promenade with pretty views along the coast and of the hills and mountains behind dotted with white houses and villages.

other places to vist are: Nerja, with it's 16km of beach with sparklinf clear water. All major water sports are available here, the old town virtually unchanged, with narrow winding streetsand the typical whitewashed houses; One of the most brilliant jewels of universal architecture is the Alhambra, a series of palaces and gardens built under the Nazari Dynasty in the 14th C. This mighty compound of buildings – including the summer palace called Generalife, with its fountains and gardens - stands at the foot of Spain's highest mountain range, the Sierra Nevada, and overlooks the city below and the fertile plain of Granada.

The Villa is just a short distance (10 minutes) fromThe white washed village of Competa, known locally as the 'Pearl of the Axarquia'. Easily approached by a good tarmac road . (Many villas in the area have long, pot holed dirt roads that require a 4X4). Competa is nestled 700 metres above sea level in the Sierra Almijara, the snow capped (in winter) range of mountains between Malaga & Granada that stretch down to the warm Mediterranean.

Competa village is surrounded by a 4,000 hectares wide wildlife reserve, the Sierra Almijara, with peaks as high as 2,068 metres. A stunningly beautiful natural park where you can go for walks to encounter mountain
goats, eagles and a very rich vegetation. Yet, the sandy beaches and coastal villages of Axarquia are also very near. Competa has 35 bars and restaurants offering excellent tapas and meals at low prices.

The area of Competa has one of the best climates in Europe, and the land surrounding the village and down to the coast is filled with vineyards, olive, almond and lemon groves, tropical fruits such as avocado, mango and kiwi, all idealy suited to this sub tropical climate. The locally produced Moscatel wine is famous throughout the region. You can visit one of the bodegas and taste it yourself!

The region is renowned for it's muscatel grape and the infamous Vino de Competa. For this reason the routes through the villages are named 'The Route of the Wine'. This takes you through the villages of Torrox, Algarrobo,
Sayalonga, Competa, Canillais de Albaida, Nerja and Frigliana. To the north of this Provence of Malaga lies the Provence of Granada.

Their representative will meet you as you leave the luggage hall and you will be driven to their depot just outside the terminal. We have found them to be swift and can help you avoid long queues at the car hire kiosks in the terminal.

From the road there is a drive with parking for two vehicles. Leads to an attractive private gated entrance, opening out to a large level terrace, with mature plants and palms.

Inside the villa the lounge with beamed ceilings boasts air conditioning and ceiling fans and for the cooler winter evenings a Norwegian wood burning stove. From the lounge an archway opens to the airy dining room, with arched patio doors leading on to the patio terrace. Also from the lounge an archway leads to a fully fitted kitchen, with all your home-from-home essentials.

An inner hall leads to the two bedrooms (one with en suite) and family bathroom. Both bedrooms have fitted wardrobes and ceiling fans. The master bedroom, with patio doors opening directly onto the main terrace, has a double bed and views across the terrace toward the Mountains. Bedroom 2 has twin beds, with views down to the Mediterranean Sea. The large family bathroom is fully tiled and is fitted with wash basin, toilet, bidet and through arch to bath with shower over. Leading off the master bedroom is the newly refurbished en-suit shower room, which is fully tiled and fitted with a stylish glass brick shower enclosure, wash basin and toilet.

Further details outdoors:
From the dining room the patio doors open out onto a covered arched terrace, next to the pool, where you can eat ‘al-fresco’. From the 8 x 3 metre heated pool, the huge ballastraded terrace (big enough for a game of badminton) extendsand incorporates the barbecue area and lead to the gardens on each side.

The pool has been fitted with a solar heat collector, producing no greenhouse emissions and making the pool up to 5 degrees warmer at 1pm than a non-heated pool in low season. The solar system automatically shuts off in high season when the temperature reaches 28degrees.

The villa has plenty of seating and sun loungers for you to use, either by the pool terraces or the more shaded areas.

Conditions

A 20% deposit is required to secure bookings. Payment should be made in full one month prior to booking period. Also a £150 refundable deposit is required for any damages and a £30 key deposit is also taken, but again refundable.

Payment may be made by 'PayPal', but will be subject to an extra 4% handling fee.

Thank you for allowing us to share your lovely home. We have travelled extensively over the years and this has
been our first holiday experience spent in a villa. We have enjoyed every minute of the tranquillity, the pool, the spectacular position and the beautiful sunset. It has surpassed all our expectations. We have also enjoyed visiting different places, the eating out places in Competa and the surrounding area. Have had a super break. The villa views are stunning, especially the sun setting in the evening. Lisa and Hans were really helpful. Torre-del-Mar has a great market on a Thursday till 2pm. Well worth a visit for gifts. Enjoyed the scenery on the coastal road to Granada. Lovely quiet beach coves……. Would welcome a return.

We have really enjoyed our stay - The villa is beautiful as are the views. Our holiday was everything we hoped it would be. We ate at El Pilon in Competa a couple of times and thought it was excellent. We had a great trip to Grenada to see the Alhambra which was very good. Nerja is nice and the caves are awesome! Hope to return one day.
