Home description

Our four apartments are all on the ground floor of two attractive pine clad chalets on a quiet site located beside pine woods and alpine meadows near Combloux village. They are compact, which is cosy in winter, but sensibly laid out and well equipped. Three are adjacent, which is useful for families and friends holidaying together. One is exclusively for Tuesday changeover - a unique solution for long weekends and off peak travel. Combloux is an unspoilt traditional Savoie village, only recently gaining fame in the UK although it was one of the first ski resorts established in France due to its good snow record, magnificent views of Mont Blanc and excellent central position just 8 kms from the Geneva-Chamonix autoroute.

The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region

The French Alps offers so much more than the increasing number of British skiers realise. Spring is so fresh and peaceful - with delightful flowers and wildlife. Summer days rival the mediterranean but cool mountain air ensures a good nights rest - and from June through August there are more outdoor activities than you'll find anywhere else. The walking and mountain biking on hundreds of well marked trails continues into October.
For the ski season it is best to avoid the travel company crowded resorts or well advertised purpose built places. Take a car and go where the French go to satisfy their own love of skiing!

The Mont Blanc area is spectacular and unique. You can ride cable cars and cog-railways, go white water rafting, visit glaciers and ice caves, take unforgetable pleasure flights. Swim, wind surf or relax by the lake. There are adventure parks, riding, summer luge, golf, paragliding, ice skating, casinos ... you name it.

Take a day out to drive through the mountains; go people watching in Chamonix; visit historic Yvoire on the shores of lac Leman; or Annecy, France's answer to Venice; follow the wine route. There is so much to discover in the French Alps.

Combloux area

The French rate Combloux as one of their best holiday destinations but it is hardly known in the UK because our tour companies have not put their feet in. It was the first commune to install a ski lift and there were direct trains from Paris in the 1930's to stay in the grand Hotel Mont Blanc with its unbeatable view of the mountain range. Combloux has avoided over-development and is still a beautiful and friendly village.

Skiing
There is a free drag lift, 150m walk from our apartments, leading to La Cry area with ski school, creche etc. Here you can buy local (JaCo) pass or wider (Evasion) pass.
The JaCo area is between Combloux, La Giettaz and Megeve villages. It has 90 kms of beautiful tree lined pistes for all grades and superb views facing all compass directions (60 runs, 31 lifts).
The Evasion area also includes St-Gervais, St Nicholas and Les Contamines. This covers over 450 kms of pistes, 118 lifts, 36 mountain restaurants, 3 snowboard parks, and 260 snow cannons.
As if that was not enough, several other ski resorts including Chamonix and Argentiere are well inside an hour by car.
See owner's website for webcams, maps, photos, snow reports etc etc..

Coast/Beach
Although far from the coast, the Alps have hot summer days and popular lakes with beaches and water sports. Combloux has a new outdoor lido with superb views of Mont Blanc. This has made the national press, not least because the French Prime Minister has his summer holidays in Combloux.

Golf
Megeve has a pleasant 18 hole mountain golf course which is in amazingly good condition in the summer (and part of the ski pistes in the winter). This is 5 kms from the apartments. There are also good courses within 30 to 60 minutes by car - at Chamonix, Giex, Annecy and Divonne (Geneva).

Walking and mountain biking
Of course! There are hundreds of marked trails, excellent local tourist maps, lovely mountain restaurants, and breathtaking scenery.

How to get there

By car.
Combloux is just 8 kms off the autoroute from Geneva, or all the way from Calais, which makes it probably the easiest top quality resort to drive to - and use of a car is recommended to get the most out of this area.

By air
The nearest airport is Geneva - 60 kms via the A40 autoroute. There is a 75 minutes scheduled bus connection but car hire is recommended. Full advice on owner's website.

Drive from home.
Once you've crossed the channel it is easy. Autoroutes all the way from Calais means only 7 hours driving plus stops then just 8 kms more of N road.
